Sandra is so stinking cute in this movie. I love the moment when she is seated opening the presents and just smiles at the warmth of the family that has taken her in. Edit: 10:52
One of my all-time favorite comfort-media, holiday movies!! I found myself on my own at 18 and abandoned by my father, who kicked me out and moved out of state without leaving me any contact info. My then boyfriend/now husband's family basically adopted me as their own. I had my own place, but his mother fed me dinner just about every night I wasn't working or in class, while I worked my way through college. There was *never* a time I wasn't welcome in their home. This movie came out around the same time, and I used to pop the VHS into my VCR, all the time, and watch it as I fell asleep. I love the casting and the awkward comedy through miscommunication. And, Joe Jr never fails to make me laugh. So excited to watch this with you! ✨💖✨
As this is one of my favorite films, I'll never forget the fun-for-everyone-except-the-paper-boy-fact: the crash was not scripted, he broke his arm. But thank goodness they kept it in the movie.
A requirement of romance IS the happy ending. It's WHY romance is a major genre in books and movies. Sometimes we just need to believe everything is going to turn out fine in the end. Like a Calgon bath, 'take me away,' romance delivers that heavy sigh of relief. Happy tears are a plus.
It's ok Toni...I've probably watched this movie 20 times & I cried right along with you! Two other great Bullock movies are Miss Congeniality (very funny) & The Lake House (romance). Love you guys!!❤
Hey Toni, I thought you would cry when Joe Jr broke up with his girl. Not the other 3 heart tugging moment in the movie that let us fall madly in love with Lucy and her depressingly sad life. All alone working at the CTA toll booth every holiday after her dad died and hauling a 40 pound tree to the 2nd floor window. ------ Thanks for the great reaction and Toni's heart of gold. David on the other hand.... BaHHHHHH Humbug.
To compare this to a Hallmark movie is so offending 🤒 My favorite rom-com of all time, and it really deserved all the success it had. I also love the score. I'm glad Toni liked it.
Dave, you're funny. You regularly tell Toni to "suspend her expectations of anything making sense" with films like the Monty Python movies, yet during this movie, you have repeatedly said "this makes no sense, you've questioned the passage of time, etc. To the point of mocking it. It kinda seems like, as much as you'd hate to admit it, and would rather we all believe that you think this type film is ridiculous, you enjoyed it .
I absolutely LOVE this movie!!! Everyone is fantastic & the script is perfect! Glynis Johns is absolutely adorable & Bill Pullman should have become a major leading man after this was released.
David! Don't get mad at me, but I'm with Toni on this one. You are a party-pooper. I really think you're a pretty sweet guy, so just let me rant a bit. I must be an outlier where men are concerned because I was crying at the same places Toni was. The purpose of this movie is to enjoy the sweetness, not to pick apart the improbabilities of the plot...the point of the movie was to be funny due to the compounding worsening of the situation throughout the movie. I was tearing up when Lucy was talking to Peter at the hospital, despite him being in a coma; when Lucy got the present and stocking at the house; when Lucy asked Jack if there was any reason she shouldn't marry Peter; when Jack was talking to Peter at the hospital, despite him being in a coma, and telling Peter he envied him; when Lucy told the family she loved them; etc. You just didn't allow yourself to enjoy the warmth of the movie, which I guess is a guy thing, so you're absolved. Don't tell anyone, but I like Hallmark movies too...they're romantic. This is one of my favorite movies, really enhanced by the gorgeous thematic music from Randy Edelman. But, like you said, it's not your kind of movie, which is fine. I think a lot of men probably feel the same way. I guess I'm just a little bit of a freak. And you really are a nice, gentle guy...much nicer than a lot of men I encounter, so thanks for letting me rant. Please let Toni see this comment. :)
It's a cute little movie, but not legendary. There's a Rom-com logic and level of suspension of disbelief required that some people (perfectly legitimately) can't muster. I have to say it wasn't really as good as I'd thought it was, and I remember liking it. In the end, it's fluff, and should be evaluated fairly as such.
To say Jack and Lucy's relationship was based on lies is a bit much. Sure, there were some lies, and people probably shouldn't get engaged after just a week and a half (although I think it was closer to 4 if she gave 2 weeks notice), but they actually had quite a bit of quality time together - I don't know how long that walk was from the truck to the apartment, but they talked about some huge things, which is something that neither of them did a lot of I would reckon. It is a sweet movie. I think it is quite a few notches above the standard Hallmark fare, and it may even be one of my favorite romcoms.
Thank you for doing this one! It's good to do a silly rom-com between the action, blood, and horror stuff. One of my all time fave movies. I love Sandra Bullock and Bill Pullman so much.
Oh what a perfect movie for Toni!! I love this one !! Sweet!! Romance!! Great cast of characters!! Love the supporting cast ! Peter Boyle from Young Frankenstein and Everybody Loves Raymond , and Jack Warden he’d been in a million movies and Glynis Johns she was the mother in the original Mary Poppins!!
I remember I read a review of this movie in Entertainment weekly back then that said Lucy was too cute and pretty to be lonely. You nailed it in the head David.
Oh, the ending review is funny. For the record, when I met my wife it WAS love at first sight for both of us. That was almost 30 yrs ago (in May '24 it will be). We didn't get engaged until 2 yrs later, but it was mostly long distance - really long distance - in between. In fact we only had about 5 months total together over the almost 3 yrs before we married in '97. Amusingly, my wife and Sandra - in this movie - look a lot a like. Also it's wild that this movie is nearly 30 yrs old!
Toni's right, never going out will do it. I have never been on a 'date' in my life and I don't 'look', as I don't like to bother ladies minding their own business. So...... It happens Loved the paperboy wipe out. I once ended up on the hood of a honda civic in high school because I was riding my bike while watching the girls play softball. One minute I was watching an outfielder chase a fly ball, and next I was staring up at a North Dakota blue sky. And in grade school my bike had a front tire where the front tire bolts where stripped, so when I hit a pothole coming down a hill, I popped a wheelie, passid my font tire, then watched my front tire pass me before a whipped out. Gavel on asphalt, that one hurt. I don't mind the cold Dave, even though I've been in Hawaii for over a decade, I lived my growing up in Northern Arizona and North Dakota and then Seattle, but Seattle is wet, so It's a little different. If you have the clothes for it, you get used to it, and come christmas I really miss it. The "Aloha" "Shaka" christmas just isn't it. Toni, for Christmas. "Snowed In For Christmas". Trust me..

"You give up your seat every day in the train." "Well... But that's not heroic." "It is to the person who sits in it." Fun Fact: I have looked high and low, but the paperboy has never been identified in any article. Authentic Battle Damage Fact: In a transition scene, a paperboy is shown slipping off his bike. This was actually an accident and the actor broke his wrist, but they decided to keep it in the movie. Script Rewrites Fact: The original screenplay was about a woman in a coma and a man pretending to be her fiancé. Many studio executives thought this to be too predatory, but one suggested reversing the roles. Once the script was rewritten, the movie was picked up by Hollywood Pictures. Location Location Fact: The Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) shut down the Randolph and Wabash station four weekends in a row for filming. In order to film the scene where Lucy (Sandra Bullock) jumps down on to the tracks to save Peter (Bill Pullman), they moved to the Sedgewick station for just one day, which conveniently enough includes one section of rail without any live currents, which was much safer for everyone involved. Although the CTA had never shut down one of their stations for a film project during the day, they made an exception for this movie.
Oh wow! I thought for sure the paperboy incident was a planned stunt! I had a paper route when I was a kid in Massachusetts. I hated delivering in the snow. Didn't ever ride my bike while delivering but I used to load up the Sunday papers in my sled so I could deliver more without having to go back to the house so often. 😂
To be absolutely honest, the movie you see is the third version of that movie. It is often said that The Script, The Shoot, and The Edit are three different movies. Don't be a writer in Hollywood if you are easily offended by the finished product looking nothing like what you wrote. Go in Peace and Walk with God. 😎 👍

Need to get Toni more tissues while she is sleeping.
😂 - Toni
This is a sweet movie that could have been so much better. Joe Jr is a real liability.
You must be in Property management or Human Resources.... so true! 😂 - Toni
This movie is all about the supporting cast.
It was a great movie!! - Toni 😊
So many red flags in this one... even more than in The Proposal - which is quite fun though a bit dodgy...
How about a great western, like Tombstone.
Adding it to our list. I think we have it there a few times already but still adding it. 😁 - Toni
Have you seen Barbie? That’s hilarious
How dare you compare While You Were Sleeping to Hallmark movies x-D
I love Hallmark movies!!! It’s actually a compliment. - Toni ☺️
"You give up your seat every day in the train."
"Well... But that's not heroic."
"It is to the person who sits in it."
Fun Fact: I have looked high and low, but the paperboy has never been identified in any article.
its better than Speed
I feel like I have watched Speed and I agree. I liked this one more.... 😊 - Toni
These mashed potatoes are so creamy.
David I take it you’re not into Rom Coms !!!😂
He doesn't think he enjoys them but did you hear all the laughing? - Toni 🤓
Ruin the moment
I thought it was a great movie! - Toni 😊
The Blind Side

Sandra won an Oscar for this one!!!!
I didn't realize Tim McGraw did movies. Isn't he a country singer? - Toni 🤓
