I agree with your criticisms. - I ended up buying a bunch of 25mm bases from greenstuff world and magnetised them to stack under the aliens instead of swarm tokens. - The thick white lines are way too prominent. it only dictates the edges of movement, something that the thin white lines do well enough in the middle of the grid. - Barricades are too weak to be an actual worthwhile tactical mechanic in the game. BGG has some different house rules for this, but I havent tested them. - The randomness of the endurance deck is a little frustrating. There is 1 card that can guarentee a removal of a hazard card from a character. I think a house rule could be to add another action in the playerphase: "Survival Instinct: Spend both actions and exhaust 10 cards to discard a hazard card from a character" - House rule 1: Pulse rifles (not smart gun) always have full auto regardless if you miss or not. The smart gun compared to the pulse rifle is out of balance because of the "first missed shot, you are done" mechanic, and this would maybe make endurance deck management more important. - House rule 2: Always draw 2 motion tracker cards for blips. Disregard any text on those cards/tunneling cards. Cards drawn this way are cycled to the bottom of the MT deck. Then draw 1 MT card per player and fully solve it, discarding the MT card. It is a great game, and my girlfriend and I are enjoying it! But I feel there should have been a little more playtesting to really tune the endurance-deck-is-your-resources mechanic a little more.

Great review! I also enjoy this game--but, those alien swarms can be brutal! You can be on the brink of victory when a huge swarm demolishes your team! Also, I have been unsuccessful at adding the tails, so gave up--the Xenomorphs still look good without them.🙂
Great review, thank you for the detail in this. I get its not perfect and maybe GF9 will listen to this and bring out a revised edition improving some of these niggles. Also a big box version with door standees and pre-painted assembled minis might be appropriate for some gamers. I'm glad you did at the end of the day show this some love despite your niggles, that has convinced me to buy this. I will think about house ruling some of your niggles.

@@wombatwargaming1634You're welcome. Just a 3 layer sandwich of card (or chipboard as it's called in the USA) off the back of an A4 pad. One piece as the door, the other 2 either side, cut, to create a frame. Then some strips on either edge to make it stand freely. Then maybe some ones made up to look barricaded. Nothing too flash, using the door design like the one Ripley goes through at the end of the movie scene where Hicks shows her how to use a pulse rifle. And then a wider 2 square one for larger doorways. PVA em up then acrylic paint and a wash. Cheap and cheerful. 😂
@@wombatwargaming1634 UPDATE. I forgot I had some foam board. So even easier now. Make your door shape then score the frame and doors in. Them some little trapezoids for standing suppprts. Cheap as chips, then paint. 👍🏻
I know this video is 2 years old and all other guides I’ve watched are also 2 years old( I’ve only just got the game ) but every video I’ve watched and there are many state the same as yourself “50 50 for aliens to break barriers “ where is this 50 50 rule because in the rule book it actually states to roll a 5 or more ? Not one video has played at 5 or more …. Am I missing something? Hope someone can clear this up .
Having had the game for a while, have played the game and enjoyed it. GF9 should have had a game video, or a training mission in the box. Also, something that is vital for the game, a sheet of single/double doors for the player to use. It would have saved a lot of confusion.

I just got this game, some of the mechanics have been changed.

There were some rules revisions in the newly released edition, it could be that the breaking of barriers was one of them?
