Had one same unit with same behaviour. In the end I discovered that the issue was just mechanical: it was the sled that, driven by the motor, was misallined impeding the optical unit to move in any direction. So the laser couldn't read the disc giving the message toc reading then ejecting. I solved the problem with... dental floss! Securing the sled tight in it's position
Can you explain this in more detail? Or maybe send a picture? I also have the problems with the JE500 ...
I have Sony CDP-470 (1988) it has OKI branded IC. when I looked for "OKI c6458" its definition is "The 6458 is a high-speed, 4-bit 1-chip microcontroller with built-in FLT drivers/controllers developed to support relatively large control systems." they were only IC manufacturing for shelves those days I guess. 38:54

I have a MDS-JE500 it wouldn't read any minidisc, I replaced all the surface mount capacitors on the mechanism board and now it works perfectly, those 90's smd capacitors are the worst, their ESR were over 30 Ohms.
Change it - good Caps are from Panasonic, Rubicon, Nichicon and others. weakbit
Why capacitor is weak? Usual electrolytic capacitor has Capacitance +-20% tolerance. You are measured 958uF capacitance, this results isn't bad. Or did I not notice something?
in my small experience - if the cap is lower then the writing on it the ESR is higher then it should be. If the machine is open and so I change it the cap cost near nothing but my time cost real money. This is that what I told Mr. 12Voltvid ones we must repair for money and the cost of a cap is near nothing but the cost of my storage where the e.g. CD-Player is stored cost real money. (if you have more then 50 CD-Players that need space and this cost every month money for nothing) In case of that I ordered it in 1000pcs or 200pcs packs it is not single order this will become really expensive.
But one other thing I make now a new series for Paul in Canada the topic is now a Top secret - but what is with our communication how we can talk about the project what I want to make.
