Curses! it’s those birds feeding me wrong information This is a clue that the banks will soon collapse and lunch boxes will become sentient then invade Poland
The blue cast on the night photos looked so interesting, I'm inspired to take my DSLR out and take night-time long exposures and purposely tint them blue for the same effect to see how that turns out.
dude, what are you talking about those long exposures look so good! The fact that 1 iso still registered starlight is amazing and youve shown me that, experimentation is everything in photography so dont undercut yourself. Youre doing great work my man!
Jan Šilar yeah i remember I had the 1 iso roll in the fridge when he uploaded that vid and I thought to myself “f*ck, he beat me to it” lol His roll was B&W tho not blue
I relate to the name of this channel so much. You know how many "fashion blog photographers" in beige trenchcoats i gotta walk by in my city telling their subjects to flip their hair and stick their butt out a little more by a rosebush on a cobblestoned streetcorner? Or iPhone photographers sneaking up to steal my composition in the mountains? Subscribed.
That film is so called "document - film" made for graphical reproduction (documents, labels, zincography). Its high contrast and very fine grain makes it suitable for high resolution but it has almost no value for art photography unless you want some special effects.
Cool experiment! I guess it's an old stock repackaged and rated at ISO 1 due to being really expired??? BTW, some cameras like the A-1 use the batteries for long exposures, that's why yours don't last. You might want to try a mechanical camera, or one that gives you the option of using a mechanical shutter for long exposures like the Nikon F3.
How'd I just find this channel?! Dude your content is sick. Those night shots have a seriously cool look to them like cinestill older alcohol brother that gets overlooked at family gatherings.
NGL those shots from the garage looked cool. Thank you for this video so that I can avoid that film. Also long exposures depletes batteries much quicker than regular exposures. My DSLR wouldn't make it to 19 mins on one charge lol
I think it was holding the shutter open for so long that drained your battery. The Canon A-1 manual says the battery needs to be checked "when long exposures are frequently made".
In my opinion, those ISO 1 film shots, were magnificent in comparison to the DSLR & iPhone shots. And the Canon A-series of film cameras, is a great line. I’ve had few problems with my A-1, outside of forgetting to change the battery. Then again, its loaner from my dad, who’s repaired it in the past.
For the highly blue tinted daytime pictures, if you happen to have the unprocessed negative scans, Negative Lap Pro should be able to balance the colors out during the negative conversion. Otherthan that , fantastic nigh photos man.
Maybe you could get a 6v dc line into your battery compartment? For my digital cameras I plug into the wall when I can, or I have a mega battery pack with me. It would definitely be janky cuz it’s not meant to have external power, but could prove to be useful.
My SIGMA fp goes down to ISO 6 but i think its pretty usefull as you can do long time exposures in broad day light without tons of ND Filters (especially for lenses that can't easily fit such a filter like the 14-24mm F2.8
I think the nice about film is that it make you to move and experiment new things like this ,interesting photos ,I recommend full mechanicals 📸 like pentax spomatics,Nikon fe-fm ,cañón ftb ,minoltas str or the ones who don’t need battery to the ones who want to experiment
It's interesting how this film stock renders different shadings in mainly blue and also green in some circumstances, but it is not like blue-all-over. It's a more differntiated curve adjustment. So I wouldt expect a plain filter to do the work. The only way to work around would be very warm lighting i guess and using it in the shadows on purpose.
Had my A1 about 40 years and still works fine ,when the battery goes flat it still works but limited functions and the best battery is a duracell thats what it comes with when new , tried other types but still went back to duracell
My old Ricoh KR-10 could still fire on 1/125th (or it may have been 1/90th) or B without a battery. Doesn't that Canon have a similar spec? I've never owned a Canon camera so I don't know.....
I have a Canon A1 as well (among others), and long exposures is the only thing it does bad. I think the night pics you took are amazing, and you shouldn't bother with small apertures. It's a 24mm, and your subjects are really far. f/4 and hyperfocal distance will give you amazing results, and a faster shutter speed!
Those cameras draw power when the shutter is up, which may explain the battery not lasting. Probably worth using a fully manual camera for ultra long exposures. That film looks like it’s balanced for something even warmer than 3200k, you could try a stronger orange filter or look up the data sheet for it. It’s clearly a motion picture duplicating film that had a specific light source in mind. Are the sprocket holes a slightly different shape to regular 35mm too?
What do you mean 1/32 isn’t handheld speed? I don’t start getting blurry until around 1 second exposures tbh. I would like to try this especially for the blue tones but meh, I have other weird film to shoot x3
When shooting a camera that has an electronic shutter (like your AE-1) when the shutter is open the battery is being used...hence the battery draining. Not a battery or camera issue.
You tried a new film stock, great. But I wouldn't crap on the film too much. For the most part every film has it's use. Now you know the look of this film and who knows, you might find a use for it in the future. Keep experimenting:)
You’re too hard on yourself man! I enjoyed this and thought the experimental nature of it the video was super fun. Only thing I could use less of is you ripping on yourself!
Nice night photos yoou took, good job! Never give up on expirements and work on improving your skills. You definitely do have a good taste on visuals. What light meter app do you use? I like its UI. I tried "Light Meter Free" but it is pretty buggy. Great camera, tho (and all technics on the background! such an expensive collection!). I'm shooting on soviet Zenit camera, just tried black-and-wihte film for a first time and now I have no company nor man to develop this film in Voronezh)
Let's see -- Sunny 16 gives f/16 at 1 second. If you have an f/1.4 lens (not uncommon on post-1970 film SLRs), you'd get 1/250, so you ought to be able to shoot hand held in "bright sun" conditions. I myself have a bulk roll of ORWO NB21, ISO 12 cine duplicating film. Works well in sunny conditions, but I wouldn't try it indoors, never mind at night. That's what ISO 400 or 800 is for, and why I use a lot of XP2 Super (which I process myself with bleach bypass to get effective EI 800). BTW, if you go a little older on your camera, get one that doesn't depend on a battery to operate, you can open the shutter with a cable release, leave the camera on the tripod, and take a nap. Set your phone alarm to wake you up. BTW, reciprocity correction probably makes a 19 minute metered exposure more like several hours...
I have a roll of Ektachrome E100 slide film and two cameras at the moment. One of them is an Olympus OM10 with a Zuiko 50mm f/1.4 lens and the other one is a Nikon F100 with Nikkor 24-50mm f/3.3-4.5 lens. Which one the better to taking photos at night? The Nikon with the 3D matrix metering mode or the Olympus with the f/1.4 lens? (Both with tripod of course.)
Yes I do apologize It was a bad decision at the time to keep the image showcase “short and sweet” but I now realize it’s way too quick I did just post these images to my Instagram in full quality if you wanna take a look instagram.com/p/CMFV0VDHVYD/?igshid=1bi968xpusoxr
jeez its for long exposure like waterfalls or juxtaposing moving objects on still life. It obviates the need for neutral density filters evening light is dominated by skylight , blue sky light as are shadow areas in daylight. Really do a 10 second exposure , f22 with the 85a of a freeway in daylight. Motion blurs and still is in focus , or paint at night with a flashlight with shutter open , think outside the box. All your exposure experience will come in handy if you want to paint with light. If you use a 3200k incandescent the blue will compensate somewhat for the red light of the halogen. Use a spot to paint and maybe switch out some gels for a color pallete. Remember you have plenty time in the dark.
It looks like your night shots with ISO 1 were quite good. Long exposures are to be expected and often give a nice little ambiance with things blurring. I intend to experiment with them some as well.

Those long exposures from the roof were so so good! Recently bought an ISO 8 film and thought that was crazy already, but ISO 1 man 😱
Karin Majoka thanks 😌 yeah iso 1 film was tough to shoot
Honestly anything under iso 25 is equally painful haha so good luck with iso 8 📸
