Is this an abridged version of the story? What happened to the plan to attack the Council shipyards and make it impossible to repair and replaces losses quickly? Suddenly, we jump to a fleet engagement where, as usual, humans kick butt (yawn). Terrible writing, a whole chunk of the story is missing.
The old coots of the Galactic Council didn't want to let go of their power. Which is why they attacked us.

As reveiled, he is an engineer, also a brilliant captain, advisor to the president, and also a cunning negotiator in his later role as ambassador. Riker is simply brilliant in all he does. At the same time, he is stupid as a donkey to attack a bording party that is about to surrender, only to make needless casualties among the marines, letting the enemy escape. So emotionaly a loose cannon. The perfect man to send to be an ambassador.🤣

"Council homeworld"... really? A HOMEWORLD for a galactic council?
That is as dumb as saying "The country of the United Nations".
You can have some sort of headquarters for this type of assembly. It can even be an entire world designated for such activity. BUT HOW THE HELL CAN IT BE A HOMEWORLD FOR THE COUNCIL ITSELF?
