- On May 9th, 2017, SP 4449 returned to P&W rails for the first time since 2008, heading from the Oregon Rail Heritage Museum to a corporate PNWR event in Tigard. My apologies for the shakiness of this video...my iPhone shoots much better video than my Nikon but is also much harder to attach to a tripod.
Due to a flood of idiotic comments, I have disabled them for this video.
That is a great video of a beautiful locomotive!! Thanks so much for posting it so those of us who were not able to see the 4449 today could enjoy this. Man, her whistle is gorgeous! And it echoes beautifully! Thanks so much for making this video as long as it is -- that lets us enjoy more of this incredible steam locomotive!
And I am pleased beyond measure that the G&W chartered her today. That is a great way to celebrate the retirement of a railroad president!

Sp 4449 blows it's present-day whistle used in 2015-23
10mph? Ten???? TEN????? I love the Daylight but that seems excessively slow, doesn't it?
It had something to do with track approval...nothing wrong with the locomotive. :-)

Soon I hope they Restored SP 4460 GS-6 so it can be partnered with the SP 4449 GS-4 THEM TWO TOGETHER like Brother's or like Sister's

Nice Work! What crossing was that where they have to stop before proceeding to trigger the signal? I didn't know about that. Is this a crossover line of some sort? It seems this would be cumbersome on a main, though line.
PS I grew up in Tigard, grew up a railfan back when BN went to Albany and SP went to Hillsboro through Tigard. So, I'm really interested in placing this!

Why did it have to stop for that crossing gate to drop?
P&W make a lot of moves on Main 2 in Tigard Yard - just north of where that crossing is. They probably have a delay on the crossing circuit so it doesn't cause backups on Bonita Rd.
Why did 4449 run tender first? Was there no turntable or tight wye turn?
Somebody told me it was so she'd be facing the right way for the Bend trip this summer but she's now ass-first to Union Station (that's the wrong way) back at ORHF so I don't see how that works exactly. I doubt she'll go to Bend tender first so obviously there was a reason. :-)
they are working on a turntable as we speak might be done sometime next year just in time for the sp&s 700 to fire up!
