Very cool video! I used to live in Portland and have seen this yard from afar so seeing this video fills in the pieces if you will. Plus whoever film this filmed it a day after my birthday in my graduating year. 👍👍

I'm from Portland and know that yard well - tho I've never been *in* the yard. But the surrounding areas - the streets - know them well. Now that I'm retired, I might do some rail-fanning myself. -- A friend of mine went to work at SP out of the Brooklyn yard in 63, right out of high school. Started in the repair shop - learned welding - became certified, but then worked his way up to hoghead - spent the rest of his career driving trains. Lots of good RR stories from him.

well, at least you remote control guys don't have to worry about U.P. negotiating your job away; like us over the road conductors. :o(

dude that image is messed up, turn down the digital sharpness in camera, and set it to neutral, you can later add a more appropriate contrast and sharpness boost

I'd rather sharp then blur. Canon's are garbage for sharpness and color settings, and the compression kills any life to the picture, but I work with what I have. For a 2009 camera I can't complain. Thanks for watching :D

neilybobmojo Thanks for the reply as I am looking for a new camera to get me into the digital space vs my old film video and stills. I was impressed at the sharpness and little to no film stuttering. I would like to know what camera of the 2 you were using on this video. Also, do you get wind noise from your mic when filming on windy days/

I was using both cameras on this video, they record relatively the same way and produce video that looks the same. The primary differences are the lens that are used. Unfortunately the wind does cause a bit of problems with my sound, and external mics are cumbersome and I have not had good success with one yet.

neilybobmojo My old VHS. a big unit it was, had a sock sort of to put over the mic. and I have yet to find a wind cover for any newer cameras to solve this problem. I am considering a bandage across the mic. for a filter.
