    Takashii, these are great interviews with wonderful people. However, I notice a trend: almost all of the people are young, beautiful, going to "uni" and have wealthy parents. I hope you can interview more '"regular people" who are working, raising kids and being part of regular Japanese society.

    • @blasianking4827
      @blasianking4827 Місяць тому +49

      That's because he arranges these interviews with people so obviously it's going to be slanted towards people who want to appear in a video, usually those who have or want some kind of following on social media
      Not a negative thing, but I think that's why the bias exists here. He's done plenty of street interviews with random Japanese people.

    • @Daniel-bn2lm
      @Daniel-bn2lm Місяць тому +23

      He's had interviews with "regular people" before. But also it's not surprising that most of the half-Japanese people he's interviewed would be models, uni students, or wealthy since that's kind of the only reason why they would be in Japan in the first place.

When they left, my colleague told me it was so interesting to see how my mannerism and the way of speaking completely changed when I was talking to them. When I took my 2 younger daughters to Japan I had to explain to term "monoculture" to them. They have grown up in modern Australia and where we live it is a very diverse mix of ancestry, in fact my youngest who is a white blue eyed blonde kid (which in itself has a story originating in the UK and Scandinavia), is very much the minority in her school class.... Anyway, with that multicultural background, I explained "monoculture" to them as "imagine everyone at your school was white!".... When I worked in Asia, the locals always found it odd that I was skilled with chopsticks, and when at home I could eat food from dozens of cultures.

    It's funny listening to these interviews. My kids are half white and half Chinese here in Canada and it really has never been an issue. In fact, when the other kids see me they assume my kids are only white and then when they see their mom they were like ahhhhhhh ok I see your mom's face in you now. LOL. Here, there are so many mixed kids nobody really reacts.

      I grew up in Toronto where there was a lot of racism and violence associated with it in the schoolyard. A lot of kids had a tough go of it. I boxed at Cabbagetown boxing club with a kid called Asif Dar. His dad got him into boxing because he had to fight his way home from school almost everyday. He became an Olympic boxer for Pakistan...Canada snubbed him. We've had 5 kids in Japan. None of them has had a single incident of racism. The first encounter with racism any of them had was when I put my son in a hockey school for a week while in Toronto when we were home for the summer. He was 8. After one session he asked me "Papa...What's a "nip"?

    Good interviews, but it would be good to know how accepted and/or "intrigued" native Japanese are with the Half Japanese who don't look 100% Japanese? For example, one girl (who looked 100% Japanese) said she was "bullied" growing up. I want to get an idea if I visited Japan, would people want to get to know me more because I don't look 100% Japanese, but I do look Half? (kind of like the last guy in the video).

      There is no way for us to tell from appearance whether a foreigner has partial Japanese ancestry or not. There are a bunch of Eurasian mixed people from Central Asia to Russia living in Japan. And a half-Japanese or even full-Japanese person who doesn't have native fluency in Japanese culture, language, or history would be treated no differently from any other foreign tourist visiting Japan.
