Dan, good to see you posting. This seems like a sensible and easy thing to try. Improving sleep quality would help me. I think possibly in editing your video you've taken out most of the natural pauses between sentences. It makes you sound a bit like you are racing to get through something where you have a time limit! Again, great to see your post.

I think I just discovered for myself that my microfiber sheets were causing sleep disturbances. I mean no matter what I did, nothing worked. I watched hundreds of videos, read plenty of articles and NIH studies. But this one change, changing from microfiber sheets to 100% cotton made a dramatic difference in sleep quality. My guess is the toxic chemicals they use to make that cheap plastic was harming me, and disrupting REM sleep. I only found out because sleeping on my awkward couch was oddly better than sleeping on my serta king mattress with memory foam padding. Didn't make sense at first. I skimped on cheap sheets. Never again. I don't care what the cost is for organic, I'll never sleep on poison another day in my life. Hope someone reads this and finds the information as useful as I did.

Hi dr Dan. If you want to take magnesium in the form of epsom salt (magnesium sulphate), how much should you drink? And is it okay to drink it as a supplement?

Magnesium Citrate gives me a raging headache if I take even as little as 1/4 teaspoon. It's either the magnesium citrate itself or something else in the Calm brand product that is affecting me. The headaches are so incredibly debilitating and difficult to get rid of that I'm afraid to run a test by taking magnesium citrate by itself to see if it is the magnesium itself or if it is another ingredient in Calm causing the issue.

Mg taurate is another form that supposedly helps sleep and blood pressure. I've watched several videos and almost no one mentions it. I do think those on other blood pressure meds should discuss it with their doctor before trying it.

I get up at 3:30am on my workdays, do a pre-work bike ride (usually between 15 - 20 miles depending on the weather etc), do a physical full-time job, and then ride home again (the short way (four miles)) and also co-run a house with two teenage offspring. I usually sleep like a proverbial log. Six hours is good for me and I'm as good as always bouncing about with energy, despite being 50 in a few months. My wife, on the other hand, doesn't have quite such a physical lifestyle, but she does exercise regularly. She quite often complains about being tired, which probably isn't being helped by her being a back-sleeper and spends a large amount of the night impersonating a wounded warthog. I have just ordered some magnesium to see if that helps her with her sleep.

Speaking from experience, it sounds like your wife has sleep apnea. Has she ever had a sleep study done? In lieu of a CPAP machine, I've found that wearing a "breathe right nose strip" (the extra strength tan coloured ones seem to adhere the best) and sleeping on my side has done wonders for quality of my sleep. I would also recommend that she get a fitness tracker that also tracks sleep. I use a FitBit Lux and it's been really helpful for monitoring my sleep quality, blood oxygen levels, etc. And yes, Natural Calm magnesium powder before bed really does help as well!

Magnesium Citrate gave my grandpa brutal diarrhea, especially because here in our careless country the package said 2 grams per serving . . . Now he takes about 260 mg of Magnesium Chloride. But I think Magnesium Glycate will do him better, thank you. How about Magnesium Threonite? Any luck with that ?

Please research why people think magnrsium oxide is poorly absorbed. I think it was a study with 15 people and the results varied extremely, going from negative absorption rates to more than 100% or so for different types. In the end they listed the average absorption rates which had extrem margins if error. Basically all useless.

My samsung watch tracks my sleep. I dont sleep very well. I have no problem falling asleep, but I wake up several times during the night. Sometimes I wake up at 3am and cannot go back to sleep. It's really annoying. My rem sleep is almost always less than average. Magnesium supplementation hasnt really had any effect. Ive recently started taking 2 grams of taurine per day, but so far that hasnt made much difference either.
