My mother watched it from this time on. It was so unusual to show ordinary people on a British soap opera. We only had about 2 TV channels and huge numbers therefore watched the few things on. These characters feel like the backdrop to my childhood.
The days when if the pub was the local community hub at least there was a sense of decency and neighbourliness, not the secret , solitary problem drinker drowning his sorrows at home feeling sorry for himself. where matriarchs and patriarchs alike intervened through a sense of duty not nosiness, and not shuffling the problem onto some unknown counsellor funded by the taxpayer, and the days when a doctor would come out at a moment's notice, along with an ambulance if necessary.
Nice caring sharing Ena Sharples. The cow. A rare so called (UK) 'ethnic minority' role as a Doctor. Now much different as we are awash with it. Arthur Lowe & Violet Carson (Ena/Swindley) showing their acting chops. Respect.
Not very helpful of Albert to say if Leonard Swindley had stayed where he was this'd never gave happened! It wasn't Leonard Swindley's fault either...!
Dennis " No, I know that shopkeepers are entitled to their rest and relaxation, same as anyone else. ( mutters) not that some of us get as much as anyone else..." 😂😂😂
Don't remember that, but I do remember Ena saying HOW she wanted to die, the same way as her aunt I think. Martha said 'Ee, that were a lovely way to go." Ena "Oh yes. She just sat up, broke wind, and died." 😂😂😂
Absolutely loving these oldies.Thank you heaps for showing the👍👍

Ena should of had her own show what a legend thank you Violet xxx
Another great episode-thanks for sharing - Ena- "Some folk'll take credit for ought..." lol
I was only five months old when this episode aired love these old episodes
No you weren"t you were 15
I wasn't born for another 41 years lol.
I was born ten years later and a month before. So it was on August 13,1973.
Old gets
The famous "suicide" episode that was altered at the last minute to show Sheila being rescued in time.
I always thought young Dennis was such a cutie

Gives me the creeps
Classic Coronation St.
Silly me, and silly Albert Tatlock thinking “wind” and flatulence were the same thing.🤭💨💨💨
20.25 I was half expecting Ena Sharples to Break the forth wall and talk right into the camera
Usual straight but well meaning talk from Ena to Doreen, to convince her it wasn't her fault Sheila attempted suicide.
Think it was tho. Bad words & intent hurt. Mind you who what where we don't know on our Coronation Street magic carpet ride. Next stop 'ding ding'..
At the end in walks another Ena. Shock horror..
Lucille is a sandwich short of a picnic...
Ty so much for uploading these episodes great fan from nz here ❤
Len always treated Elsie so badly.

i remember wen doctor would be visiting me wen young the 60s. , those were the days
A young Kathy Staff at 1:26 behind Harry, with a pram.
Especially back in those days mental health was never brought up. If you went to see a psychiatrist than you were what they say 👀 down at.
21:21 Arthur Lowe said the same thing as Cpt Mainwaring..."for the want of a nail a shoe was lost..."
What happened to the snug at the rovers?
Removed after the fire in 1986 along with the Select.
So what IS the difference between wind and flatulence, Annie? I thought, like Frank and Albert did, that it was the same!
Breeding.
I think one is internal, the other external 😅
Did anyone spot Kathy Staff as an extra , she was on twice .
Ena was brilliant 😂
I was 4 days old when this was aired
I still had a month to go.

We all stop being daft sometimes..😔
Why don’t someone put Sheila in broadmoor to get help?

Florrie's customer service skills could be a bit lacking! To Lucille " So? What d' you want? C'mon, I'm in an 'urry, I'm off out!"
To be fair, Lucille was extremely annoying person
Can anyone upload corrie 19 August 1963 and 11 September 1963 please?
Calvin Millward Yes.. We must find it!!..
Anyone know the episode where Ena Sharples has a line something like; "When I go I want to be carried out to The Lords My Shepherd - Crimond"
Episode 1, I believe :)
Auntie Corrie2
Thanks that's the one. Strange how lines and scenes change, in your mind, over the years but that's the scene

u believe it, maybe yes, maybe no, all actors get bad press in the end, sometimes u got too look into it more if u think bad, blessimgs to you
Dennis gives me the creeps, he was even worse when he came back! And Elsie the most overrated actress ever, she was terrible!
What rubbish the acting? Was back then ,pathetic!
👎
But we're still watching 50 years on, unlike today's drivel, which will remain in the trash can.
@@stevebbuk why are you watching it ??
@@raymondcurry2278 It's part of our history.
@@stevebbuk ok.
Violet Carson and Doris Speed were fine actresses, Arthur Lowe, was a great actor
