I saw the Chuckle Brothers in a live show in 2000. I didn't really know anything about their background, just that I liked them on Chucklevision. Were they just two chancers who got lucky and landed a gig on children's TV? No. Absolutely, no. They were theatrical professionals. If you think they were good on TV, they were amazing live on stage. They were one of the last remaining acts in traditional variety theatre. They performed with their half-brothers, The Paton Brothers. Incredible show, real good family entertainment. They weren't desperate for work, either. Chucklevision was still going strong, and they gave it 100%. After the show, they signed autographs for over an hour. I won't hear a bad word against them, they were a fantastic act. Paul still does Panto, do go and see him if you get the opportunity. He's a legend.

Saw them in 2010, I was 17. Loved it.

That comment = along with Kirsten O'Brien's choice of subject - is quite uplifting. Thanks. My age meant that I missed the Chuckle Brothers "boat", and I only ever caught clips while babysitting. I was not sure if "To me. To you." was a worthy entry into the national consciousness, but now I can be genuinely pleased for them.
Your first sentence had me wondering where such a lengthy comment would go. I hope that many people get to read such a thoughtful, warmhearted post. Wildly dfferent to the majority of scents left on the UA-cam lamppost. 😀👍👍

@@BetterCallJamie HaHa. Perhaps it was translated as a concession so that us Southerners (and people from the U.S.) could understand.😀

@JohnPreston888 Yes this is true. I'm the president of the Little Rock, Arkansas chapter of the US Chucklevision Society. We've got 14 million members across the continental United States (and Puerto Rico) or something

Well of course, she was talking about the genius of chucklevision. Can't go wrong.

A really touching tribute to Oliver Postgate. Well done Charlie. 👍🏻

Postgate was the man, but I’m close to Charlie’s age. Firman and Eliot also genius, I’m thinking the Clangers. Respect to you for the shout out!

I mean why didn't he point out that the puppet's ear fell off at 21:17 ...
Thanks for posting this BTW... I've now got a lot of Charlie Brooker to catch up on.

The line “less parental” whilst Philip Schofield is on the screen has different connotations in 2023…

As a parent I’ve been exposed to In The Night Garden… ok this is the first time I’ve watched Screenwipe oh this episode since being a parent. I bet Charlie fun rewatching this as a parent too.

I remember watching this back when it was first shown almost 15 years ago and I guess I was 21 or so... I'd forgotten a lot of it but I definitely remember the David Liebe Hart section.
I also remember finding the Oliver Postgate section boring, at the time but now watching it again it is rather touching.

After looking into David Liebe Hart, I almost came to the conclusion that it was some sort of kitsch mocking program. But delving a bit deeper this guy seem more odd. And I'm putting that politely.
