If Lube has Jauntorena, Zaystev, and Anzani as their Italian starters that would be insane. This are foreigner slot caliber plays which have them build a team where all their starters are national team starters

I just love how his prediction on Kevin Tillie going back to France to play is pretty accurate. To be fair, he wasn't talking about Kevin Tillie will go back to France and play, but more of him being less physical which might lead to him not being able to play Italy because they require the top of cream to play over there.
I think people will hate me for that but sometimes I feel like FIVB is just hyping Nishida to the point that I get tired of watching FIVB's page. It's like he will have successful career but he's playing against way bigger blocks and high level of defence system. He is something special but this doesn't mean he is the best of the best.
Kinda feel like this season have a lot of ups and downs, some of the downs being the Korean league kick a few of the players out of the league due to past school violence, COVID impacting some players, financial struggles from some teams, but the upside is, volleyball is BACK. We have high quality games in CEV club volleyball and in major leagues. What's not to love about that.

I don’t think they’re hyping him up as if he’s the best of the best because he’s not, but because he’s one of the most popular players out there and generates a huge amount of social media interest. People love watching an underdog and his style of play. The fact that he’s 6’1” and can kinda hang with the some of the top players is cool to watch. The fact that the upcoming olympics is in Japan ups his profile since he’s hugely popular there. Also, he is surrounded by a team of very good players, so it isn’t just down to Nishida to garner the team’s success.

With Dimitry Volkov going to Kazan plus Micah... they triying to become a more cheaper squad but staying with a talented roster.... Butko days are over, the end of an era... and with Alekno retiring after Tokyo 2021 the siberian powerhouse will look forward to rebuild the team and trying to regain the old power they had in Russia. But they still lack a leader... Maxim are not on his prime despite he still is one of the most respected opposite out there. As for Italy Gabia Garcia Fernandez the BYU opposite will be the reserve of Ivan in Lube.... i dont see Kamil with space to play... someone rumoured about the posibility of him becoming an OH, but the guy had a fantastic season it is unfair for him to become OH at this point, Modena tho is interested on the Luxemburg player. On the other hand Marlon Yant is the future of the franchise but they need security thats why Lucarelli is an option.... Modena for sure can be a contender but they had a similar squad in the year of the pandemic and they didnt performed so well.... so it is about experience and last but no least Vibo... what does have in common Nishida, Mauricio and Douglas... the 3 of them never go out outside their countries to play in Italy... for me they just are NT kind of players... and they will know their true level if they go to Italy ....

I think the inopportune time Milano went down with coronavirus and then having to play all those games at once affected their standing in the regular season. At least some of them were still feeling the side effects of covid long afterwards, so they couldn’t do full training until around the time of playoffs, but that of course also goes with other players too. Ultimately, 4th vs 8th was a difference of like two game wins, so not too bad.

I am.... kind of not surprised about Lucarelli possibly leaving Trentino. I never doubted his calibre - Lucarelli is a real beast. But it seems that he kind of underwhelmed a bit during the season. I'm not sure if him and Giannelli are just not connecting well, or Lucarelli has been eclipsed by Nimir and (the unicorn!) Alessandro Michelleto. If Lucarelli does go, I hope Trentino gets Aaron Russell back. His playing years at Trentino have been great (world club champs + CEV cup), and he kind of didn't look quite at home at Piacenza. Russell can be a good match up to Lucarelli.

@@fiveonevolleyball8112 Fair point. Lucarelli's defensive skills are also better than Kooy's. And when Lucarelli is on "beast mode," he's practically untouchable. I am still sticking with my theory that Lucarelli's connection with Giannelli is not there yet. It needs to mature a bit more. If this is Lucarelli's first year living overseas: normally Year 1 would be to adjust, be more stable at Year 2, then begin to really "peak" at Year 3. But if he feels he'd fit more with Lube, it's his call. That said, if Lucarelli does go, Trentino would need someone to go against the other big outside hitters like Juantorena, Leon and Engapeth. I think this is where Russell would fit in.
