    For me, the key to understand is that H1, H2, & L are responsible for reception always, and S, H1, H2 stack in such a way that let them get as close to their natural play position as possible. Once I understood this, I can come up with the correct stacking position, without the need to memorize anything.

  • @danielakerman8241
    @danielakerman8241 6 років тому +130

    One thing for viewers to keep in mind is that this is just one theory or approach to stacking. At lower levels, you'll often see stacking and shifting that is a little different, that doesn't always have the H1 and H2 back to pass. For lower level teams it can sometimes be simpler. For example, you might have the setter simply "stack left," "stack middle," and "stack right" in which case they simply push that front row player up, and the player in either the right or left front court position drops back to pass. This is probably not as strong and effective, but some teams do this. I see it a lot on recreational teams.

    • @brynnfischer-carne6309
      @brynnfischer-carne6309 5 років тому +5

      im 12 and i was so confused because this is not what we where taught. We are being taught a different kind of stacking.

    • @marikothecheetah9342
      @marikothecheetah9342 3 роки тому +3

      Indeed, it is just one strategy from many other, depending on the type of attack, even strengths of the team. Sometimes tactics focus on strongest hitters, sometimes on the whole team because there is no particularly strong player on the team. There can also be focus on defense or on offense in particular so the strategies will obviously change. Not to even mention such a basic thing like rotation XD

    • @russko118
      @russko118 2 роки тому +1

      For what i know stacking changes if you play with two setter and no opposite, but is just a simple version of the one he taught, the classic 5-1 that almost evrybody use. Even in my amateur club/tournament. In any case, the hard rules to follow are the same for evry kind of stacking

    • @pa-mo
      @pa-mo Рік тому

      100% true. This is for skilled competitive teams. At many levels below that, Liberos aren't used at all, and the reception skills of Middles & Rights are often as good as the others (there's more differentiation in skill around hitting & blocking then in defense at lower levels). So in the cases where all players are more or less equally skilled at reception, I suspect stacking is actually more effective since it minimizes the distances to travel afterwards. Rotation 4 here is the best example, where H1 M2 R can just stay put and receive, no movement required.
      The other thing I always see at lower levels is where the base positions are actually different, so instead of the starting rotation being (clockwise) : R M2 H1 S M1 H2 they flip the M's and H's so that the starting positions are : R H1 M2 S H2 M2. In that way when the setter is in position 2 (rotation 6 here), the front row doesn't have to move.

    • @marikothecheetah9342
      @marikothecheetah9342 3 роки тому +9

      There is a whole referee team: the 1st referee, the 2nd referee, the scorer and the assistant scorer, line judges. The scorer is responsible, among others, to keep track on rotation of the players. Before each set begins he;/she must get the sheet with so-called starting positions of the players and based on that he/she keeps track of the movement of the players on the court.

    This was very helpful! I started playing volleyball 3 years ago and have just been learning from watching and playing with people in rec/beach leagues. I recently tried out for the college varsity team and missed out of a few spots off from making the team as a LS. On the evaluation the coach gave me, all the weak points were fundamentals I never learnt, passing footwork, platform/consistently passing, not getting low, stabbing at the ball when passing, wandering hands when blocking. I'm trying my hardest to clean up my game as much as possible to make the team next year and your videos are truly a life saver! thank you so much!!

    excellent explanation and demos, great! This is specific to Stanford but many teams use this. Also, the 5-1 can be simpler if needed.

      I believe it is just because of no particular dynamics of the team in mind. The strategy will slightly change, depending on how many strong hitters there are, how many effective middles etc. This, I'd say, is just a template that could be adjusted to the team accordingly.

    *makes notes frantically* I think I'd understand it better if I had the traditional names of positions (OH, OPH, or RWS, LWS, MB) but it's still so useful. I want more VB theory! This is so much fun!

    I have been following your videos and I find it informative and helpful. Your presentations were smooth and on point. But I am always troubled on what are the frequent mistakes or errors the players make during an actual game when they have been avoiding it during practice. Could you make videos for the "mistakes and errors" a specific player make (for libero, setter, hitters, etc) so that we, too, can avoid it. Or make videos for basic errors, mistakes and penalties in a volleyball game. For me it could be interesting and way helpful. Thank you if this be granted.😊. Kudos!

    Awesome, I've been searching something like that about two weeks ago, but YT didn't have any good stuff.
    Plus, would you kindly consider something about where people should be in defense (since most people know where they should be attacking, but that would be also nice)? Ofc. for 5-1. If there aren't any strict places where someone should stand (considering how many people block etc.) please just let me know.
    There is many good tutorials on this channel, upgrading my volleyball skills sistematically. Thanks for all the work!

    It's interesting watching this again, especially after watching a replay of the men's euro champion's league final. What I found interesting was that Zenit Kazan (the team that won) used a 4 man receive in all but rotations 5 & 6 with the right side/opposite forming an important part of the serve receive which is different to what most teams use (professional, college and high-level amateur). Considering how hard people serve in modern volleyball, should a 4 man service receive be something that more teams consider?

    Great video as usual coach, maybe if you use some kind of magnetic toys onto your board and use it as a player in your explanation and explain more about how the player move and change place when their are in offensive or defensive , it would help us alot on understanding the volleyball game. Can't wait for your next video :D

    Thanks for the video! How does the rotation look like when you have an Opposite that plays a defensive role. I know it's not optimal, but everyone doesn't always have an opposite that scores all the points in less competitive leagues.

    great video
    where I'm getting back in the game after a long time away I needed this refresher. 5-1 is the most common system . one year my club team ran a 6-2 with 2 man serve receive. that was confusing for positioning because we always had two guys buried and one at the net

    • @jeffkirk6202
      @jeffkirk6202 8 років тому

      +Elevate Yourself yah that's what we would do too.. if we faced strong serving teams the back row.middle would step up
