@Goods5119 Yeah completely agree and listening back to their debut album now is like listening to Bonham in ‘69. It changed punk music and punk musicians started to get better to the point now where you have the quality of Josh Freese and Brooks Wackerman playing on punk albums which would never have happened If Topper Headen hasn’t come along in the UK and Earl Hudson in the US.
Going home soaked in sweat, beer and God(Or Jah) knows what else. Ringing in your ears, and excited to tell your friends about this great new band you saw, cos there's no internet. Priceless.
I miss the energy of shows. The feeling of being at the back of the crowd when a band starts, the electro-magnetic pull of the sound; sucking you in like blackhole. Leaving the club in the early hours of the morning, feeling better than therapy could ever make you feel.
I come up in mass usa northshore I graduated in 81 but no air play here no good clubs for it either before most of yous was breathing. Keep the faith and eat the rich!!
Born in 85, got into punk in 96, sad to say I found Bad Brains in 2016, but it's crazy to see how much they had a second hand influence on my whole life's philosophy. It still blows my mind to see that shows like this were happening before I was ever though of. When I thought of 82, I always thought of Rock and Metal, little did I know, these guys were setting the stage for the next couple of decades.
In an interview Henry Rollins said he went to a bad brains concert, and that HR jumped into the crowd right on top of Henry Rollins. I’d like to believe that it was in this video.
Best band EVER!!!!!! Saw them in the 80's in SF CA. I AM reffing to. Bad BRAINS. They were just as good in the late 90's. Girls thrashed too.....and lyrics matter. PEACE!!! The world needs us Now more than ever. Love!!!!!!
I remember being at this festival( forget which night) thinking 'this is rock and roll right now' no past golden age. This was it and I still have never seen any music that intense or soulful or melodic or...
Thanks for posting this, seriously. This is the only live footage I’ve ever found that has the drum lead in, which is my favorite part of this song. I think it’s in “American Hardcore” where one of the founding members of Agnostic Front talks about why Big Takeover is the best song of the entire era. The way it slowly builds to this massive explosion of energy is flawless.
It’s crazy I’m 48 years old and even though I never got to see Bad Braisns It warms my heart when a good pit is going on someone falls and everyone always would rush to pick anyone up but this day and age people don’t care they will stomp on your face. SMFH
I am watching this to save my boring day at my office, omg i would like that be there right now... I am thinking with myself... What i am doing with my life? I am a little lost.
I'm amazed you don't see any blood on this video. Hell, you scrape yourself up on the floor at CBGBs and you're getting an instant staph infection. Lol, guitar player is absolutely killing it.
Had tix to what would have been my first Bad Brains show some time in the early 90s was soooo pumped -but HR apparently hit someone w his mic stand and got arrested the night before. Aaarrrrggggh! Jist rediscovering the pure raw energy of their music again. We are so blessed to have them in our lives
Dude in the plaid shirt gets thrown on the floor and is seen rubbing his head throughout the rest of the video! What a badge of honor!...the legendary Bad Brains!
So much mayhem...and in the middle of it, you can't help but notice how good Dr. Know is. A lot---maybe most---of HC was musically crap, but not these guys. This still holds up today.
Depends on where you are. But dont limit yourself to “genres”. You gotta dig, go to some crappy bars, and listen to some crappy bands. And remember, few people outside of the East Coast even heard about Bad Brains during this time. But when you find it, it’s worth it.
This song will make you move in a way you never have before. HR will not & can never be copied. This shit was magical & violently soulful. We had one of the best harDCore scenes. DMV!
@kyfaydfsoab I've been listening to Banned in DC on repeat today so this is wild. There's an energy i probably won't ever get to experience but it's beautiful. The dressing. The sense of community. Idk man. Beautiful
I'm still there!! My ex played in one of the backup bands before them and I had never heard them before. He told me to go out there cuz he knew I would love it and I've never seen anything this good again! Also, he told me to stand against the wall and I was standing to the left of the guitarist. It was my first mosh pit!❤
@@tinatammaro1694 this is so beautiful!! I can only hope life has been good to you. You giving the energy of someone with amazing stories to tell!!! Sick to connect ❤❤❤
This is why (if your over 50) we have so much pain walking. The scene wrecked us. Would I do it again? HELL YES !!!! The scary ( or funny) thing is we either became a criminal defence lawyer to get our punk rock friends out of prison or the cool Social Studies Teacher that really didn’t give a fuck what the principal told you to do and made fun of them in front of the class. We became part of the system to run it and tell it to FUCK OFF.
Are there any modern bands out there anyone knows of with as much energy as H.R I’d really like to know I’ve seen bands today kinda like this but not really close
I‘m 51 now but when i listen to Bad brains i still wanna destroy my living room. Epic Show!
Same here
Me too and I'm 56! I saw them in 1984 at the Olympic in downtown LA! Blurred memory but always remembered they were cool AF!
Yes!
i hope to someday be 51 listening to bad brains in a thuroughly destroyed living room
Then DO IT what's stopping you?
This video for me is like an anti depression, so good this energy!
COSA NOSTRA, HELL YES !!! You are correct, sir.
I couldn't agree more !
I am the same, I prefer this to chill my mind. Music that calms most leaves me feeling destructive and vice versa 💞
Agree 100%! 🔥
holy shit i had that exact thought before scrolling down
Earl Hudson great drummer with great economy of movement. Possibly the most stylish punk rock drummer.
From the very first time I heard a Bad Brains song, Earl stood out. He's an incredible drummer. Playing that fast, but still that clean, is insane

Big Takeover
No one dan doe so bi so ah
Was a body. Woulda bu sink
Nevermind...
How do you not like this??!!!!!
This is IMHO one of their best songs. That guy could really dance, too.
He is some kind of a magician.
A Lot of people don’t get it
If this doesn't make your hair stand on end, you have no pulse.
It actually scares some white folk's. Especially maga..

Most awesome hardcore band ever!
HR is the Chris Farley of punk rock. Even when the camera is fixed on someone else, you can't keep your eyes off him
No, Chris Farley was the HR of cinema
Bad Brains came before Farley.
In an interview Henry Rollins said he went to a bad brains concert, and that HR jumped into the crowd right on top of Henry Rollins. I’d like to believe that it was in this video.
Just watched that exact documentary and was thinking the same thing. 2 living legends
That would have probably been in DC and not NY.
@@sukhbir6246impossible. They are banned in DC
The Bad Brains at the top of their game, nobody came close.
THE BIG TAKE OVER YEEEEAH HEAAAAAA!!!
HR, the James Brown of punk
hugocafasso FAAAAAACTS !!!!
fuck yeah!
FACTS.
Hardest working man in the punk business ! Nothing like him has ever graced our presence . Punk Hall of Fame !
This is the best video on UA-cam.
This is the most underrated comment on You Tube.

He disappeared for a second wtf
And another guy has been dropped from the ceiling or something in the back

James Steiner you're right! Who else could it be? He could have tagged along to NYC with Minor Threat...
Lucy he makes a try of a weirdo flip or something

I was Ubajara, Brasil when this happened.
HR got the crowd going in. That looked lit.

I can't believe this video exists. Incredible to see it today.
A scene of total anarchy and chaos
It's beutlyfull 🥲
Bah. They all have the same moves
What a great time for music
Bad Brains are the Best ...greatz from Old Punk /1978/Hangover
Lol dec 25th Xmas day? what a way to spend it
Love how casually HR walks up to the mic at 1:10 before spazzing out again

This video can cure depression
This must be one of the best clips I've seen in my life
OMG what a great time that was , gives me goose bumps , bad brains 1982 , one of my favorites ( glad that I was there)
One of my favorite bands & guitarist ever & there's not many !!!
I'll never understand how some people can not think that this the best shit ever.
I am watching this to save my boring day at my office, omg i would like that be there right now... I am thinking with myself... What i am doing with my life? I am a little lost.

746am listening to this at full blast. Time for work!!!!
this is the pure hardcore !!! @São Paulo - Brazil
I was there the following night..just turned 15. There's a compilation of the three shows on DVD

It's a John Varvatos store now. :(
So sad and pathetic....
yeah east village shit... same as coney island high if you were there around st marks it was a thing once... now its... st marks
Only 27 years after the birth of rock and roll. I'd say things are proceeding in an orderly fashion.
Brains tear it up !
thats a real moshpit
Ahhhhhhh! Love!!!!!
Bad Brains=love
MERRY CHRISTMAS, NYC.
RIP HILLY.

The most legendary person in punk isn't a frontman or a band, it's the guy at 0:16
Swear to god i see it and i was like the hell why that shit so punk
Thanks brother that’s me that you’re talking about in the video.
i would pay so much money to be there

Holy shit.
Real punk. If anyone knows of a place where they still do it like this, please enlighten me.
Mogura87 No where. This was it. This was the era
Let’s be honest. The Snowflakes ❄️ would melt.
Backyard gigs in East Los Angeles.

L.A Areas, gotta know the right people to show you the underground bands that pop-up at back yards ir venues every weekend
This song will make you move in a way you never have before. HR will not & can never be copied. This shit was magical & violently soulful. We had one of the best harDCore scenes. DMV!
How am I finding out about this now on my 46 years on earth?
