Relegation is 100% the reason English football works as well as it does. The entire English system is a masterclass in maintaining interest with a wider fanbase, and Connor is unusually right in that _every_ sports league needs to implement that system.
Relegation would be a nice thing to have but it’s not NEEDED to have a great league, primary example is the NFL it’s the league that has 100s of storylines and on top of that is a league that promotes parity, teams that made the playoffs one year might fall off and not make it the next year those stories don’t come from being relegated it just comes from the league just being naturally good and interesting to watch even without relegation
connor is spitting facts about promotion and relegation there’s actual consequences and without it we don’t get stories like luton town going from the 5th division to the top league nor huge teams like hamburg going down for the first time after staying up for 55 years, it’s a lot more interesting than the franchise model imo tho i do love the playoffs system and i love that lower divisions implemented them the promotion playoffs are amazing
It's rare for someone in the anime community (at least in my experience and in the UK) be into football. So I always enjoy when Garnt can geek out about it.
I thought it was just me having the absurd unrelated combo of being a fan of Arsenal and on other hand of Domestic Girlfriend manga. I don't feel lonely anymore. Ty based Garnt.
My only experience with "football" is playing as a small child and when I was 13 I had an English friend named Amelio who liked FIFA the video game. We would play FIFA 13 and FIFA Street and I would play Manchester United and he would play Arsenal. I would just slide tackle him over and over and injure all his best players and he would rage quit. Was the funniest shit. Wayne Rooney was the best.
I think Garnt should ask his relatives back in Thailand for football knowledge and passion of the Thais. I mean Thailand is the strongest nation in SEA anyway, as a Vietnamese, it's sour but it's true at the same time. There's also a regional tournament going on, if Garnt has a chance, he should watch them.
Seeing as Garnt is from Brighton, I was surprised to hear that he didn't support the Seagulls as that is his hometown team and they're doing quite okay as a mid-table club.
He does support Brighton, it’s just that he’s in the weird position that the teams that he supports are now competing in the same league. But while Brighton are a good team, they’re not really title contenders like Arsenal.
I think, as you get older The more sports becomes more of a thing you get into... At least ive noticed .. my fiance knows more about the boston celtics than I do, and im a longtime nets fan. I wish tottenham wasnt ass this year, man, that... But Brighton's not doing bad this year. That nottingham forrest vs aston villa match was crazy, though. Im not a martinez fan, but that goal save was insane (even though aston villa lost, lol)
I swear, the only reason I like Tottenham and Brighton was actually because of Son and Mitoma... but I got into watching basketball because of Kristaps Porzingis (with an eye on Jeremy lin on the hornets) and stayed a nets fan when they had Atkinson as a coach and dlo as their main guy
There’s both Pros and Cons between Relegation and Franchise. I like the idea of consequences for playing good or bad but at the same time there’s a reason it’s only been the same teams at the top for decades. Whereas in the NBA and NFL we can have teams draft they’re star players and potentially starting winning like Giannis with the Bucks and Jokic on the Nuggets, you don’t have to worry about them getting bought out right away and now these poverty franchises are thrust into the spotlight not stuck at the bottom because they can’t afford to pay their players
There are arguments against relegation in America. Number one is what is the grassroots like and how well organised are they. As European I can only hazard a guess but I imagine grassroots American Football is fairly rare?, Baseball probably more supported? I dunno about basketball it's got no excuse to not have a large grassroots scene America is vast and relatively sparsely populated, logistically a national sport is hard enough with a franchise system, can you imagine trying to organize a European league system that large.
I have the same weird position as Garnt. I'm a massive (real, American) football fan but I grew up a reader and gamer so the predominant position was "lol sportsball" but that's starting to go away.
Fucking hell.. football talk on this podcast.. my trio of hobbies is complete. Just dont please turn into a shitty football podcast where you havet he stupidest take about football... you guys already have that for everything else... also garnt a gunner fan.. no womder he doesn't get europe. Haha

But relegation exists in other leagues too and in my opinion la liga is better I love the prem too tho
@@itsyoboiasu1441 i think the prem is objectively more exciting but i respect it

9:42 damn, last minute contender for Out of Context clip of the year
It's rare for someone in the anime community (at least in my experience and in the UK) be into football. So I always enjoy when Garnt can geek out about it.
As a fan of football and Anime, this segmant is so good.
Of course Garnt gets back into football when his team starts doing decent 😂
As an arsenal fan who started after 2022 can't blame him
As a MU fan, good for him. He prioritises his mental health and I can’t blame him!
It be like that sometimes
I thought it was just me having the absurd unrelated combo of being a fan of Arsenal and on other hand of Domestic Girlfriend manga. I don't feel lonely anymore. Ty based Garnt.
Nah, in Latin America everyone is crazy about football, like since forever.
Can confirm, my Chilean friend lives and breathes it, it's a religion where he's from.
COME ON YOU GOONERS
As a modern Man Utd fan yea we are 100% cooked. Good times are just round the corner right?
Right?
As a city fan I finally know how you guys have been feeling 😂 🤕
As a Liverpool fan, I'm enjoying the downfall of the Manchester clubs and how well we're doing
You guys need to do something about defending those corner set pieces.
yes, just around the corner, when that corner is a circle.
we believe in Amorim ball right? right?
I mean mitoma scored an anime’esc goal against liverpool, where he faked a volley into a volley
yeah that was an insane goal
Mitoma is a bit inconsistent, but when bros on, he’s ON
That was ages ago tho, like 2 years already
Football, Premier League and Mitoma mentioned! This show gets better and better.
Grant supports Arsenal!
Garnt gooner confirmed
Confirmed bottlejobs fan
The bottlejobbers
Grant is an actual gooner confirmed

9:47 welp......I think we know what will be in the out of context clips for the next award show.
Connor is just chattin, NA sports dont just spend a bunch of money to sign players, they have salary cap and gets taxed if they go overboard.
9:40 The only thing that can stop a man from achieving his goals.
Not garnt talking about man utd fans while being an arsenal fan 😂
Ted "Goated" Lasso
16:45 sorry joey its not soccer. It was football!!
Garnt Goonner confirmed
Any anime and sports enthusiast here ?
Every boss fight in SEKIRO is just "Get good"
I think, as you get older
The more sports becomes more of a thing you get into...

Son is such a great player. He's a player that even rival fans can't hate. I wish Liverpool had him
Garnt really needs to play Sekiro if he hasn't before. Such a satifying game
Damn Garnt a Gooner

You're not the only one fell into that rabbit hole of Dami's videos....... 😃😃😃😃😃😃😃😃
Kaoru mitoma not only 1 of best epl player, he is also doing nagi goal in epl
Bit of a stretch...Mitoma is good but not particularly noteworthy this season
Clube Náutico Capibaribe! 🔴⚪🔴

Best Anime of the year as he said, I couldn't agree more
true true 2022 was just crasy
It would’ve been if France won
@@Tapedoff mbappé did well yeah

@thegamingwolf5612 probably not but i welcome the surprise. I'm glad he doesn't support man united.. that woukd have broken me. Haha
Respect Garnt for being a Gunner !!!
Also Liverpool top of league... for now..... YNWA 🥰😛 i can say this on this trash taste comment section. Haha
Liverpool now being top, ManCity is on a free fall, ManUtd at the bottom half. *Chef kiss*
Genuine hot take: the Premier League ain’t all that. Serie A > Premier League
who's on the top of UCL and UECL table again?
Atalanta (Serie A top table) got beaten by Madrid (twice) and Madrid got beaten by Liverpool
don't @ me, just pointing out a fact
@@gnt163 and atalanta won against liverpool 3-0 last year
It's not a hot take, it's bad take
Serie A used to be more difficult than the Premier League back in the 90s. However, I think the Premier League is better now
Finally the uk boys talking out soccer (Teh heh). Been wanting to hear their thoughts about it
