Penn Spinfisher VI review
#DaiwaBGwho? #PennSpinfisherVI #BestSaltwaterreel
I should have put peanut butter on the main gear.
Peanut bunker jelly time!!!
Smooth or crunchy?
Smooth, but Penn will make it crunchy soon enough... LOL
@@woodystemms3799 probably smooth lol
Do you think the five is better than the 6
My girlfriend thought I was coming unhinged watching a close up video of a gear. I took the headphones off and made her watch it so she would understand what I was watching. I'm now single.
You're welcome.... Lol I'm working on cad drawings for a series of reels I'm looking to build. While I was doing that my girlfriend drew the Kyohga free hand lol
Just letting you know I got a good laugh at this again......made my girlfriend read the comment too! lmao
Figured I'd pop this one up separate. You FW guys probably may not understand the significance of this. But for salt and surfcasters this is a very welcome sight! There were enough voices heard in regards to the Spinfisher V and gear issues that Penn offered cnc gear upgrade kits.Shortly after the V's launch.
Tackle Advisors where would a guy find these CNS gear upgrade kit options for the V’s. Have two 5500 & 9500 and would be interested in putting them in. Thanks again anyway for the superb content!!
So you said, "That the new spinfisher VI has the same main gear as the spinfisher v. That's what you said? I am a saltwater angler. For me the spinfisher v and the tsunami shield is the way to go for there price point. But the new spinfisher VI has a better look to it than the V. Thanks for sharing. I've been waiting for this review for awhile. And it was cool to EliasVFishing use it.
@@GrimReaper68440 huh? I never said that at all. The VI has a machined aluminum or machined brass main gear depending on size. The spinfisher V has Cast zinc. With the option to buy brass after the original purchase. The spinfisher V was an OK reel. At it's street price it was very good. Same with the Shield. This is a whole new ballgame. This is more of a premium reel at a entry level price
@@davidsoden493 I think they are only available direct through penn (last I recall) I think you need contact their service dept. You're welcome and thanks!
Tackle Advisors cheers!
Gooood recently purchased the 7500 lc vi and I've been watching very closely to see your review stoooked as! I'm a very big surfcasting fan and love using the reel already! Good to know it handles punishment like a champ
Great review, glad to see Penn making strides to better their products
Good gears are so important. One of the most upgraded parts in my reels.
Ive ben fishing with a few penn Fierce 2 for 2 years now catching big bull Reds and large black drum here in Jacksonville for the 60 $70 price tag they're the best reels I've tried so far I like all the Penn products.. As long as you rinse them off and show them some love they last even down here in florida as salty as it is even in the rivers inland
I like penn reels for salt water they’re awesome!!
Penn spinfishers have been solid reels for a long time. Especially the of SS versions. They had a brass main gear. Not the smoothest but aolid reela.
Spinfisher VI is the one I will get. Thanks for the review
Forgot about this vid! Happy to stumble back across it since this is the exact reel I'm looking to purchase (spinfisher VI 4500LL), and it'll be my first penn purchase.
Nice to see reel companies listening to customers! Affordable reels that are good, quality stuff! Will Daiwa have an answer for the Spinfisher vi?
As a freshwater guy I would love to see this quality in other reels that I use.
Just discover your channel and subscribed. THANK YOU so much for your content. Can’t get enough. You cut through the marketing and net rumor/bias to the facts. Was debating between the saragosa and the PF Vi for my next Fla surf reel. I have a PF Vi and love it. After this going with the same. Thank you again. Please keep going. We need more honest voices.
Thank you for your expert advice my friend. I just dropped 340 Bill's for a siegler sm reel from j and h. I've used it for sharks here on Texas coast. The reel is a beast.
Thanks for the review! Very educative videos and thanks to you, i can keep my reels longer!
Yes you are right, went back and watched again, my bad! Love the videos you provide. Take care of yourself. From California.
I'm so pissed... this just popped up at the top of my feed, and for a brief moment.... I thought it was a brand new video.... sigh. Still the best dead channel on youtube
Absolutely well made gear.. I never use penn before but i thinking about it right now.. Quality like shimano gears.. Thx for review from turkey.. Keep it on bro 👍🏼
Great reviews! Your videos really helps me find the best reel money can buy!
Love Penn spinning reels
Penn is looking better and better!
Love what you're doing, keep up the good work. I watch every minute of your video, possibly multiple times.
Did they add a shim washer to the base of the pinion gear this time? My Clash is starting to have wear at the point were the pinion gear rests in the frame.
You have a good voice for videos/radio. Great review.
why does the bronze base looks so worn out? like pitted bronze
No clue. Came that way. It's not something I'm even remotely concerned with
It'll oxidise with expose to air. Absolutely normal.
I like your videos it is really informative for people that are deciding which reel to buy
My Battle 3 5000 cnc main gear didn't last long at all, and I look after my reels very well. I would still rate Shimanos hagane and even daiwas big cast zinc gears higher than Penns aluminum cnc gears. On the other hand the brass cnc gear in my Spinfisher VI 6500 is holding up very well. It wasn't smooth at all when it was new but it smoothed out over time.
Great videos, very informative! Keep up the great work!
My Penn fierce is really tight I must have gotten a god one no play in the main gear at all
Bought one of the 6500LL for a la paz and Las Arenas trip last week. We caught nice sized Dorado and 35lb class yellow fin. The drag would have pulled hooks if set at max so obviously drag strength is not an issue. The reel performed well but I did notice on my largest tuna that the drag was somewhat jerky when the the fish dived straight down in short bursts. I plan on greasing the drag washers with Cals drag grease. The spin Fisher was paired with a Penn carnage II rated up to 65lbs. The last day the reel saw 5 tuna in under two hours. The LL feature was useful in most cases but I did notice a few sardine drops with some of the more spooked fish once they felt the drag even at its lowest setting. Bought this based on Tackle Advisors initial review.
Any chance you could send me a picture of the line lay? And send it to me at tackleadvisorsinitiative@gmail.com

Great review. Love your channel.Keep it up!
might add this reel to my collection in the future
Looks good. Can't wait to get my hands on the 2500
Great video and detail. Keep them coming.
Penn stepping their game up
Not sure if I’m regretting buying the slammer now.
Do you think the five is better than the 6
Makes you wonder if the Battle 3 will upgrade to the aluminum main gear. But more importantly does the new Spinfisher begin to phase out the Clash at this price point?
Im a daiwa baitcaster/ shimano spin guy, but I am buying the spinfisher longcast and live liner over the winter for next season
I'm kinda with ya on that. But I really like some of the new shimano baitcasters that came out in the last year. And some of the daiwa spinners. Regarding the long cast spinfisher VI....It's the only rugged long cast reel on the planet. It's a slammer long cast....
Love your videos buddy. Very informative!
I have to order replacement main gears on all my Fierce and Battle reels routinely. Sucks having a red on, and the gear breaks.
Is this the Spinfisher VI video I'm supposed to comment on to enter into the purple JDM baitcaster giveaway? Maybe a full Spinfisher VI review is forthcoming? I was confused, but really want a chance to win that reel -- looks pretty sick!
I always liked the pen spinfisher series reels
going to have to look into the reel looks cool
Great in depth breakdown video!. I own two sizes of the V. Would love a chance to put the screws to this next gen. model.
How did you find the V’s?
Good job, I like all your work,
You never mentioned, what size this main gear for?
Do you think this reel is better or equal to Shimano sarsgosa?
Thanks Sameh, In the first 5 seconds I have the size and model covering the whole screen :)
Gosa has advantages for sure. But in the 5 to 6k 15 ounce shimano sizing. And what you would normall target with that size reel Oooof...No bullshit.....I like how the Spinfsher 6 fishes better. No wobble issues which plagued the gosa in smaller sizes. It's a greet reel all around.
Factor in the 100$ savings....I think the spin fisher takes it .
20k woohoo! Nice to see this one come back alive!
Yeahhhh buddy! It's alive and spectacular
I think it's still cast zinc just machine cut
My BG 2500 reel sucks!!! When I reel in my fishing line...the handle won't lock and it can reel the other way. I took it apart and it still has no anti reverse lock.
The cylinders in the clutch need to be cleaned... Especially the top and bottom a high pressure stream of water after getting some dish soap worked in and spinning the clutch sleeve usually does the trick. Lube or debris at the top and bottom of the cylinders prevents them from moving in and out as they should and is usually the problem especially when it gets cold
I have an honest question. I’ve been contemplating buying the new sfvi 5500 for a beach setup. I don’t beach fish that often but was looking for something built to take some dunks and splashes but nothing consistent that would require a van staal. I honestly don’t want a van staal and think they’re kind of a rip off for what you actually get. For an honest reel that will get the job done and live through being dunked a few times and splashed is this spinfisher worth it or should I do Saragossa/slammer?
Great vid as always great info best channel for the truth.
hello !, there are still few reviews of this model
.....How is it possible that the new 8500 weighs much less than the old one?
Penn, Shimano and others do not tell the truth!. Do you have a scale to check real weight?
Is this the video that I’m suppose to comment on to enter in to the drawing of the Daiwa Khyoga?
Great content! Thank you!
great video... thank you Doctor
Great review! Keep me coming...
So glad it's even more good news piling up on these for that price.
From my experience and from others I know fishing them. This is as much or more of a must buy at the price point than the bg is/ was at the 100$ price point.
@@TackleAdvisors yea, gonna be a ton showing up, especially if they run them close to that $100 mark around Christmas.
@@bassnazi4713 yer boy reel test is in narnia...sayin I left comments on his vid.....what a tool. Dude's gotta make shit up...sad
@@TackleAdvisors lol that was the one I was referring to lol. Gonna have to start doing vids, you must be getting your toes licked by beautiful women from all the money these accounts are generating😂.
@@TackleAdvisors all that aside though I'm really glad you uploaded this. I have been excited for this thing to hit a sale for the holidays and like you said, the gear is wearing in instead of our. Nice looking stuff. The machining on my ProTi looks great, like this, after using it so far. Good to see that some companies tied to us here at home are stepping up and listening to the consumer. I will say Lew's kills it on customer service, glad they are offering more metal options in the line-up now though. That one is crazy light I guess because of those gears because the sideplates are metal too.
Who gave a thumb down? I mean what was wrong with the video?
I usually hit thumbs down...but this time it wasn't me. lol
Tackle Advisors sure it wasn't you! I bet it was someone from stripersonline!

Beautiful reel
Anyone really wanting strong spinning reels, shall look into acieving stainless steel gear reels, whereas the strongest in my opinion and most affordable is the Fin Nor Offshore with its 2 inches main gear.
Great reel... Great info!
I saw a video from j and h tackle on the star surf spinning reel. What is your take on the Star surf spinning reel?
From the the video he did on it, I'd skip it.
Yeah dude. Bose.. Better off something else. Spinfisher Vi is a better tool for every job. Other than resembling a Penn Z :)
And yeah watch my 706z vs star s7000 video. Lots wrong with it
Great Video ! this thing is a Beast
Is the lowest drag on this still really stiff like the slammer.
No it's not. Thankfully
Amazing reel
Good vid ... very informative
Looks like a sweet reel
Would you say its worth it to get the new spinfisher VI apposed to the V?
what's better? penn slammer 3 or spinfisher vi?
Awesome video!
Great review
Looks like good gear wear in to me , it's even all around
Yeah....and there was something wrong with the reel out of the box. You'll see that at the end of my full review.
@@TackleAdvisors how many hours on this reel& what material was used on this gear
I think Elias used it for about 20 outings. I've used my 4500 for about 15. And the 6500 long cast 6 plus field work
@@TackleAdvisors should NOT show wear like that on any gears that new the metal is too soft or misalignment or maybe needs a shim to space the gear lash
@@wayned5872 what is Gear lash?
Would love to buy this one
Yayyyy pen finally did it!!!
Dang and I bought 3 Diawa bg's from your review... Now I wonder if I should of held out
BG is a great reel that can be had for 75 bucks. The ssvi is double the price right now.
So is the spimfisher 6 twice the reel then?
@@jamesloerzel4377 If you are taking heavy splashes and not careful with where you put your reel in the surf. It definitely could be. BG is amazing for a 100$ reel. SSVI is amazing for a 250$ - 300$ reel. I'd buy it over the saltist. I paid 130$ i think for the saltist. And I'd take the 170 spinfisher over that reel at that price. At the 70$ - 100$..bg still gets the vote in my book. If the battle 3 adds better line lay and the spinfisher gears and performs like the ssvi. That would replace the bg at that price range. Not until then imho
Bg's are garbage bro, mines took one dump in my kayak and it locked up.
Should have potty trained it.....this may help for future accidents.

Nice looking reel
Gotta love a penn
Can’t beat the price
For your upcoming video I would love to know the differences between the Spinfisher V and VI. Right now the price difference between the V/VI 6500LL is a $100. Is the only difference the gear?
The gearing is a definite upgrade as is some of the sealing. I also know that the line lay is a bit better on the new ones and the liveliner design is improved. I'd say it's actually worth it
Good review.
Nice reel man
I love the info
Do they offer the same cnc gearing throughout the spinfisher vi sizes? I'm really looking at the 2500, it's between that and the BG 2500, which is a tad lighter but not as well sealed. I'm guessing based on your review, that the BG has slightly weaker gearing, but better bearings?
2500-5500 it’s aluminum, and the 6500-10500 has the brass main gear.
Thank you!
Very informative
Great video
Very cool. Good share.
love these reviews.
Glad you enjoy them. The full review will be out soon!
Penn reels...are they worth it?
They seem to be...but I love my shimanos
I just ordered one
Tackle Advisors Can you please tell me what is the design on the base of the pinion? Is it the same as the Slammer 3?Thank you.
It's the same. You're welcome. I was critical of that when i came across that issue awhile ago...But it is not a concern for me after putting more and more time on the newer penns with that design.
@@TackleAdvisors Thank you for your reply. So i think penn makes reliable and tough reels.Thats good anyway.Keep those good reviews and keep us informed.
great reel.
Have been looking forward to this!!
Cool. I'm reshooting the full review which will be out in a few days. Figured it'd be best to break this out separate as not to take up so much time in the review!
Tackle Advisors will you be tearing down/ reviewing the standard bailed version or just the LL?
@@thirstyowlthethird9409 I'll be doing all three. Standard, Live liner and Long cast
Spoiler alert....all 3 are spectacular. I don't want anyone to wait to buy based on my review since the fall run is well underway. It's a no brainer. As long as you don't get a dud which happens. It does everything near perfect and it's a tough reel. It's not a vs but it's very rugged. The line roller bearing would be my only concern but it's a dirt cheap bearing easily replaced. Just but a few and replace as needed. once a season should suffice. (same can be said for every reel company...but in this instance it's super cheap, quick and simple to replace.
Honestly i am not a fan of penn reels, but after watched this vid i think should have one right a way lol
Nice gears wow
I didnt win the lotto, but maybe i can has Reel?
You said no more cast zinc..so whats it made of?
Forged machined aluminum
Cool beans man
i still like mine Abu Garcia Cardinal from i think late 60s :D there is no wear on it. that was time of awesome quality :D heritage from grandpa
@Doug Mooney no im just fishing from shoreline for sea basses and that size of fish. it would be fullis to use small reel for something bigger...it is possible but not smart move especially if that has some real value to yourself. The most strain ive ever put up on it is 3.4kg pike. yes it is strong and durable in my opinion more durable and easier to maintain than new reels for same purpose but it has some flaws. it quite heavy for spinning or any kind of fishing from hand. but still love it and i dont want to destroy it... memories dont have price :D cheers
Nice review. Still like shimano/daiwa better
