  • I recently asked all of my loyal followers their opinion on a new fixed spool reel. I also spoke to one of the boys at Gerry's Tackle and he was a huge help. I opted for the Penn Spinfisher VI 7500LC Fixed Spool Reel and I wasn't disappointed.
    Here is a link to the reel if you want to research more:

    Hi John, as a new to the hobby fisherman at age 66 (its been 50 years since i did any fishing) my retirement present to myself is a Spinfisher 7 6500LC. Its on its way as i post this. I've also purchased a Penn Tidal XR 14FT rod to go with it. Enjoy your vids very much, regards, Derek, NE Scotland.

    Hi , good day!! I might have one question for you about the Spinfisher VI.
    Is it true that the reel’s braid spooling is not very precise , causing trouble when casting and reeling back specifically with thin braids??

    Sorry Im a bit late to the party here. I have the VI 6500 LC and I use that on a 12' Penn Carnage 2 rod. I fish the rough ground up in Norway with it and it handles big Cod, Coalies and Halibut very nicely. I also have the V 8500LL on a Daiwa windcast, pulled in a 14lb Cod and didn't even feel it. So although one size difference either way, I agree with John, they are cracking reels. I am over in Canada and often find myself asking Gerry's via email. They have always replied with good info to me. So again, I have to agree with John on that too........ god this is getting boring!! 🤣🤣🤣

    Another great video mate! I’ve just bought the Spinfisher SSVI 6500LC after watching your review and a few others too. Do you know if there is any difference between the “SSVI” and the “VI” or are they both the same Reel? I’ve searched everywhere online and can’t seem to find any difference but noticed some are advertised as VI and others as SSVI. Thanks mate, keep up the great vids!

      I think it stands for 'Superline spool'. It has a rubber grip on the spool designed to prevent the line from turning around the arbor of the spool, so you don't need to put tape or a backing line to pack it out.
      But don't quote me on that 😂😂😂👍

    • @kevwalton1988
      @kevwalton1988 3 роки тому +1

      Andy S I think you are right mate! Yes it has a black rubber band around center of spool 👍 I’ve filled mine with mono for backing still... too expensive to fill completely with braid 😂😂👍

    Hi John, the drag on 2 of my penn affinity reels is still letting line out as if the drag wasn't tightened. Any ideas? Other than that the reels are in perfect condition. Do you think it's a bearing or something? Hoping I can get them fixed? Been fishing very rough ground from the cliffs - maybe I've abused them to much.
    If not what's your thoughts on the spinfisher 8500?

    Hello again, I've bought one of these 7500's and I've just loaded it up with 300 yds x 54lbs of Berkley fireline similar to you. There is quite some space remaing on the spool I hope this doesn't affect distance of cast, what do you think?
    Also, I too am looking for a spare spool, what strength of line do you suggest for it, lower or higher than 54lbs?
    My wife and I love you and your wife's videos. Keep them coming.

    • @turtleman190
      @turtleman190 2 роки тому +1

      It will likely effect casting distance you could remove it and add some backing to fill the spool out

    • @richiej5812
      @richiej5812 Рік тому

      Just add backing line to your new line on the reel until the line is just below the lip, remove it an then reel it back on. this way you can judge exactly how much backing you need without having too much line left over an having to cut it off therefore wasting it. hope this helps

    Hey mate, what does the EU part of the code mean (apart from Europe) ? do they have a shallower spool depth for carp fishing? also in the normal non longcast Spinfisher Vi models: 5500 and below have ali gears, whereas the 6500 and above have brass main gears. Do you know if this is the same for the longcast models? i.e. does the 5500 LC have an ali main gear and the 6500/7500 LC have brass, also? I can't find any info about this on the LC models. Here in NZ, we get massive sharks and Kingfish off the beach/rocks, and I would rather have the brass gear. Any ideas mate? Ta muchly, Dave down under
