He conducted the orchestra and backup singers with his bodty and face, watch how they watch every move he makes. He builds it then his sublime voice soars over them all. The best Gospel singer ever!

If this song doesn’t give you goosebumps, check your pulse, you might be dead. One of Elvis’ backup singers was Cissy Houston, Whitney’s mother. She was part of the group The Sweet Inspirations. She said Elvis was so handsome, when he walked in the room, it was hard to concentrate on anything else. She also said he was very generous. She still has a gold bracelet that he gave her. How would you like to be Gabe Baltazar, the flutist, doing the flute solo with Elvis staring you down? Mr. Baltazar just passed on June 12, 2022 at 92. Love the Elvis snarl towards the end when he is still looking at the band. Also, the bling 💎 on his fingers; one woman tried to remove his ring when he held her hand during this concert. You need to watch the full Aloha Hawaii concert. Fantastic.

Great reaction. Yeah the band was super tight, and Elvis always locked in tight with them. This was the Elvis that Muhammad Ali loved to watch on video after his buddy Elvis passed away a few years later.
People that paid Muhammad an occasional visit at his home over the years said it wasn't uncommon to walk in with Muhammad watching video of Elvis concert footage from this 1973 show.
It makes sense I guess considering Muhammad and Elvis met each other around the same time in 1973.
Muhammad Ali's wife Lonnie, and also his friend Tim Shanahan both said whenever Muhammad would get to missing his old friend Elvis he would put on an Elvis movie or watch footage from this 1973 concert.
Rest in peace to them both.

Elvis had that look on his face while facing the band.... had to be thinking... hell yea people, this is fucking amazing..... so sit back and get ready for this finish. WOW. What's so beautiful and powerful about this song is how it tells the story of the Civil War. Trilogy is a mesh of 3 songs. Dixie, which is an old southern folk song, representing the south, battle hymn of the republic, which is a song that Union soldiers marched to, representing the northern army, and All My Trials, which is an old African American spiritual, representing slavery and the human tragedy surrounding this conflict. Elvis loved his country and did a lot himself to fight for what was right. A truly amazing man and an amazing song.

Great comment. To be honest, it took me some time in listening to American Trilogy before I grasped not only what it was about but how significant a song it was and the powerhouse of a delivery that he did. THEN I felt it belonged in what we use to call “The American Songbook” which consisted of old Americana songs, America The Beauty, our national anthem, etc. I don’t know how many people would appreciate it today. We’ve lost something in this country, something that was our bedrock.

He directed the band with his body, you can see it in every song! Every person on that stage was 100 focused on him, because they never knew what he was going to do! If you pay attention, you can see where him and his Drummer duel, Elvis gives him a look, or a motion, and dares the drummer to keep up with him, Polk Salad Annie is a good example of that! Every roll over his shoulders matched the drums! I never knew that until I married my Husband, who was a professional musician, he said he didn't know if he could keep up with him! lol

Brief run down on Elvis How Elvis started , Elvis started out in 1954, with a small recording studio (SUN RECORDS) where you could actually record a song for a small amount of money, which Elvis did for his mother, once he was heard and signed by Colonel Tome Parker as his manager, from there he went to do several TV shows starting with, Ed Sullvian show, then to the Milton Berle show and then the Steve Allen show all 3 were big time TV shows for the time, , from there he went into he movies part of his life , taking time out (8 years ) of doing concert/personal appearance to make 29 movies all of which he recorded an albums for each movies, then they filmed the 2 of the highest rated TV special of Elvis, in 1968 , the 1st was called The 68 comeback , then in 1977 he did one more. Then on August 16th 1977, Elvis passed away at home, Graceland Mansion. Elvis has been inducted in the 4 hall of fames, Rythm and Blue, Country Western , Gospel, and the Rock and Roll hall of fame. His home in Memphis ,Tenn is now a Shine to the life and legend of Elvis Presely, most bought on by his ex wife Priscilla Presley, whom although divorced remained loyal to ELVIS and his image, and has done a great job of keeping Elvis, IN HIS FANS HEARTS... At Graceland is the Hall of Gold , it has to be seen to describe it. Much of the items of course pertain to his life and career. To lear more on who really was ,, wact some of his movies or by some of the books pertaining to him by his many close friends who really knew Elvis , The Person..Elvis was only 42 when he passed away. One more note I forgot to add , in 1958 Elvis was drafted into the US Amy served 2 years , with special privileges , made the rank of Sgt. Made a movies while stationed in Germany called GI Blues. Frank Sinatra, was the star who welcomed home Elvis with a 1 hr TV special called Welcome home Elvis. Elvis also received from President Trump, the Highest Award a Civilian could obtain. More to come Qeen B...

The famous opera singer Luciano Pavarotti once said, if Elvis had had any formal vocal training he may well have been the greatest opera singer of that century. That is certainly on display here but also on several other songs in these later years including that final really sad performance right before he died just about 4 weeks before he died where he's clearly overweight and unhealthy but his voice is even more masterful than ever. It's just amazing. He does a version of How Great Thou Art that I believe is superior to the one from the 1973 Aloha from Hawaii performance. I would also check out his Simon and Garfunkel Bridge Over Troubled Water which Paul Simon later said after seeing Elvis perform at live at Madison Square garden, wow, that is his song now. And also what now my love. There's a live performance of that in the early '70s I think at the Hawaii concert, and he had just broken up with Priscilla but yet they remained good friends and I think she always imagined they would get together again and then he was suddenly gone. But he chose to do that song which had only been released slightly earlier that year and he made it famous. And you can see the pain in his delivery of it. My way, the Frank Sinatra song which Sinatra himself did not write, is masterful and quite ironic knowing that Elvis will die in a few years. Also quite operatic. There are others also that I'm just not thinking of right now that to me show how he might have been a great Opera singer.

I just started getting interested in Elvis after seeing the movie (which I've now seen 3 times). Here's the thing, I grew up in Tennessee, and if you are like me, there are certain songs that you've heard since you were a kid...and you think those songs are so dead boring and so lame. For example, Rocky Top, the Tennessee Waltz, and yes DIXIE. In high school and college my friends and I were listening to stuff like The Cure, Depeche Mode, U2, etc and wouldn't be caught dead listening to country music or bluegrass or folk songs like Dixie--but as I've gotten older I do appreciate this kind of music more--older country music and bluegrass I now like quite a lot.
Anyway, my point is that when Elvis sings something, you listen. Your emotions are stirred. He could sing my least favorite song and suddenly I'd start liking it.

Absolutely love this!!! Thank you for posting. I remember this concert when it was on the air in 1973. I believe my mother had it on the tv. I've often wondered what he was saying to his musicians. He was magnificent.

I love many top-line legendary rock singers & there are many -- but not one could sing this song that way or hit those notes with such conviction & power.
Even the late Freddie Mercury when asked who he thought was a magnificent vocalist -- named Elvis. Freddie must have seen this performance because I know many people who don't like Elvis -- said this sent chills down their spines.
Oh, "he can't write his own songs," some said. Well, he was an interpreter of songs -- like Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Bobby Darin, Johnny Mathis & so many others before him -- but it's quite noticeable who was directing that band on stage. It was Elvis.

there is not a day that goes by that i don't think of him and all the memories we made in 10 short years, his death knocked the wind out of me i have never been the same since, Elvis was the big brother i never had. He is also my guardian angel. Graceland is my go to place when it get's to hard to live w/o my friend i go there and walk around and remember Elvis and all the beautiful times we had together. He was the only person in my life that understood me and i understood him we cared about each other faults and all. What it comes down to is we both needed a friend and we were that for each other. Awesome reaction. God bless you and your family from the one and only Memphis Tn. #forevermyking #forevermysexyjello

Please watch “Elvis and The Black Community” if you haven’t yet! It’s so heartfelt and you realize the true human being in him and the courage he had in some of the darkest times in our Nation!

Love your reaction. I have listened to Elvis since 1956 but only got to thts 1973 Aloha concert that was broadcasted around the world and seen by 1.5 Billion people I sat 3rd row center n couldn't take my eyes off of him. This song esp at the end made the venue feel like an earthquake. I never met Elvis but was friends with Charlie Hodge his confidant and best friend for years after Elvis died n he lived at his home in Graceland for 17 years. I even kept a journal on the stories that he told me about Elvis. Charlie said he got to know the human side of his friend. .Just some fun facts that jumpsuit was called American Eagle n weighed around 70 pounds due to the real gems sown on suit. React to " I can't stop loving you 1973" Make The World Go Away Vagus 1970 n around 600 more songs. I give you some more in awhile. Thank you for keeping Elvis music alive. I miss Elvis n my friend Charlie

I love this reaction!! The way you hit and felt everything is exactly what this performance does to you. His connection to his band is always amazing however, this performance hit different. He feels music so deeply but the connection he had with this Orchestra was like they were connected by a string. It is absolutely amazing!! ❤️❤️
