Thank you, Beth, for your spot-on comments. Elvis was the biggest rock and roll star in the United States from about 1956-7 to 1964, when your Beatles went abroad and changed the genre forever. My favorite song of his was "Love Me Tender," which I used to play on the ukulele and sing to the better half. Elvis burned brightly and briefly, a sad tale of what celebrity can do to a simple country boy. They'll never be another Elvis Presley.

He had rabid Elvis fans that made him prove again and again that he wasn't lip syncing. My dad says that the main secret to singing like Elvis is, first relax like crazy. Elvis was *the* example of relaxed singing. Second, start to yawn. Half way through the yawn stop, that half yawn throat, as loose as possible is how to start to sound like Elvis.

In this instance, what really makes it work is that he clearly enunciates each word. This is a good technique because it gives the felling that he is speaking softly or whispering. When people speak they tend to chop off the endings of words, "I can'T helP fallING in love wiTH you." When speaking softly or whispering, we automatically say the words more distinctly. That effect makes this performance seem so intimate. Many women over the years expressed that it always seemed like Elvis was speaking to them personally when he sang. As the lyrics in Alannah Myles' song "Black Velvet" say, "every word of every song he sang was for you."

However one of the movies songwriters wrote 'Love Me Tender' and after hearing the song, basically everyone involved begged and pleaded him to sing that song at least. He grudgingly agreed after hearing the song.

Thank you, Beth. This is one of Elvis' classics. I was born in 1949, so the 1950's was the decade of my childhood. I heard Elvis for the first time in 1956, when his music was known as "Rock-A-Billy." Even as a tike in the second grade, I thought his voice was different and special. Sometime during the late '50's, a New York City D.J. named Allen (sp?) Fried called the new style of music "Rock-and-Roll." That name stuck. And the controversy over rock music started. By then, my parents would not allow me to listen to Elvis (at home). I listened to him in other venues, and I saw every one of his movies because of that voice.
Obviously, this song brings back many memories. And Elvis' deep, smooth voice helps make the memories pleasant.

Try a reaction to Elvis's "Try To get To You" from the 68 Special. You'll find out why all the ladies went crazy for Elvis.

There were.other songs that showed off his pipes. Fat Elvis, sweating over the piano, blasting his version of Unchained Melody was one. And man, he had some great pipes.

It's nice to hear a vocal coachs reaction. You should do one on Elvis singing surrender 0,his voice was amazing on this song. There won't be a video to it, but well worth a listen.

Really cool to see reaction to earlier songs and particularly one who has influenced so many
It is also funny to see how production has changed. This is an excerpt from a movie, where videos today have the budget of one!

I can never hear this song without see him in the "Aloha From Hawaii" concert. He did this last and he threw his incredible cape in the audience. It's now, I believe, on exhibit at Graceland.

I am of Italian descent but I live in Buenos Aires in Argentina as well as in Italy there is a huge culture for good performers and music, in my opinion Elvis has been for the United States what is Pedro Infante for Mexico or Francesco Guccini and Rino Gaetano for the Italians, I really enjoyed the video, thank you very much 🌹

Thanks for featuring the king. In my eyes (and ears!) one can't do much better. Please have a look at more of his incredible range in his live version of 'What Now My Love'. Thanks Beth. You rock!

The vibrato in this song and the general tune of the song makes it the only Elvis song I never attempt to sing myself even though I love singing to every song I listen to, especially Elvis songs. You can sing this song a little differently if you want to make your own version but to sing exactly as Elvis did is pretty much impossible to do justice.
