@@tonyblair8797 Read & learn, little Tony. From a knowledgeable fan 10 years ago ---- Every time Aloha From Hawaii gets mentioned, you'll hear that 1 billion to 1.5 billion people watched the show. Of course, this doesn't take anything at all away from the show, or what Elvis and the TCB Band achieved that day. I am from Memphis Tennessee and as a deputy I had the privilege of working his funeral. He was the kindest, most personable man I’ve ever met. His favorite music was gospel. He would come and spend time with deputies because he loved law enforcement. His badge collection is hugh and he even wrote and got an appointment to see President Nixon and received one from him. He would just go up to a person and give away cars, from a deputy to a couple looking for one at the car lot. The first song I ever sang was Love Me Tender and I had such a crush on him. People come here from all over the world to celebrate his birth and death anniversaries. Now droves are coming to morn Lisa Marie’s death as she will be buried at Graceland, along his side ( his daughter). He had the whole package, sing, dance, looks and personality. What else you ask for?
I turn 60 next month, I was on the school bus when I heard Elvis had died, I got off the bus and ran all the way home in tears, only to find my mother on the kitchen floor sobbing. This song was my favourite then and has been my entire life. it will be my funeral song when my times comes. No entertainer has ever touched the hearts and souls of people like Elvis did. I miss him. ( From Australia )
My best friend didn't get her birthday because Elvis died that day. Her mother made her move out so she could make Sherrie's bedroom into a shrine for Elvis. P.S. I saw him twice. 73 and 74! 3rd row the second time!! WONDERFUL!!!!!!
@thethinkingman9338 just reading your comment, has me all choked up. I can’t imagine being in that moment even now after all these years later. He left such a lasting impression on the world and still continues to do so. Happy Birthday.
Yes i remember vividly that day it was so sad to ear that almost everyone i knew weep for Elvis,oh and by the way i was in Italy then and I I’m 60 too, now every time i ear him i remember that and appreciate him more then ever.
I was 5 and getting ready for school in the Netherlands. All of a sudden my dad who had left for work came back home in tears screaming “He is dead. Elvis is dead.” He had heard it on the radio. Immediately he put on the tv to look for news about Elvis and we all cried. 😢
I am 61 now, and I remember that we as a family just came back to Holland from Spain where we were on a holiday that summer, and I heard it on the radio it being announced that Elvis had died that day on august 16th, 1977. I felt suddenly a deep sadness in me that I could not describe. It was the first and only time ever that I cried for an artist
My mom and dad took me with them to see E on New Years Eve 1975 at the Pontiac Silverdome. I was only 10 but had a sense of the greatness I was seeing. That turned out to be the largest live audience he ever played in front of!!! Thank you Dad! Yes, I do remember where I was 2 and a half years later....
I was one of 7 children. My parents worked/sacrificed to provide for us. It was 1973 & my dad finally bought the family a color TV. My classmates, more fortunate, had color TV way earlier than me. Being a young teenage Elvis fan, I couldn't wait to watch this Elvis-Aloha from Hawaii Satellite Concert on our new color TV. When I saw him perform in his patriotic American Eagle, red, white, & blue jumpsuit on my new color TV, I knew I was witnessing something historic that I would remember the rest of my life. You brought back fond memories of my youth & The King, Salvo. Thank you. 🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲
I saw Elvis in concert 6 times and watched the Aloha special on tv in 1973. He was an incredible performer who played to his audience. I don’t think he ever really understood why he was so loved. His beautiful voice was with him until the end. Real Elvis fans still miss him.
I will never forget this aloha Hawaii concert! My mother had five children four boys and a girl she prepared food all day and had guests over the first thing she said was if any of you kids start talking while he's singing you're going straight to bed LOL
I was 12 years old when this was aired. For weeks in advance, parents in our area cleared their schedules, bought new televisions, set up in home recording devices and got everything ready so that there would be absolute silence and no distractions. Us kids just played along because the only cool part to us was that this was being beamed into outer space and back down again. Anyhow... I didn't watch it. I wasn't really interested and was hanging out with friends all evening. Nobody ever anticipated that there would be an album released and thought it was a "watch it or regret it" type of deal. and so they did! Every family we knew, at home, sitting quietly, watching history being made. Locally, in Hawaii, the concert never even started until 12:30 AM so that people on the U.S. east coast would view is at 6:30 PM EST (9:30 on the west coast), right after rush hour and supper. The performance ran for an hour and a half.
No, grandillusion. No where in the U.S. was the concert shown live when Elvis performed it in January 1973. The show was shown by NBC-TV on April 4, 1973 in the U.S. (with about 30 additional minutes added).
@@Allen-vl7zq I have no idea. All I know is people in our town saw it and talked about it, whether it was live or not. Just reporting what I saw and heard.
My aunt cried for 2 weeks straight when he died. She still has an unspent concert ticket for him at Louisville Gardens concert venue in Louisville, Kentucky. He never made it there.
I did watch this live in 73. I was 2 years out of the Navy. It was and still is haunting. I have tears every time I hear Elvis sing this. It reminds me that the cost of freedom has always been blood.
The fact that this is live and there was no auto tune during his lifetime. He had everythingy voice, looks, charisma. He will never be replaced. thank you
Elvis was bigger than life! Greatest performer there ever was or will be and no one will ever come close to him. Elvis was the total package, his looks, stage presence, and charisma is unmatched. He is 🔥 ❤❤❤❤❤
If it hadn't been for Elvis, so many who followed after might not exist. John Lennon said: "If there hadn't been an Elvis, there wouldn't have been The Beatles."
I bet anyone who was actually there would have felt lucky. When I visited Hawaii in 2011, one tour guide said he turned down the opportunity to go. I remember thinking: "Why? You went to see Jimi Hendrix, why wouldn't you go and see the King perform live?" If my mother had been there at the time, she certainly wouldn't have. As it was, she watched the concert on TV here in Australia with her husband and her toddler daughter (me). Not that I remember much, but Mum told me I got excited over the music.
Elvis NEVER forgot or took for granted his fans. He put his whole self into every performance. In this one, between those horns and the kettle drums and his Intensity, make a perfect performance. It literally gives chills every time I see it and I've seen it a thousand times. Thank you for the reaction. I love it when young reacters take the time to go back and show respect to the great ones who paved the path for us today.
I was 16 and had never paid much attention to Elvis. I was listening to Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin and such. My sister and I watched the Aloha From Hawaii at her house. We both just looked at each other and said "what have we been missing all of these years?" From then on, Elvis was everything. We saw him in concert in Atlanta not long before his passing. Great reaction! No matter how many times I hear this song, it sends chills all over me and brings tears to my eyes. Elvis was the best, and I will never forget the day he passed. I remember exactly what I was doing when the news came across the television. RIP Elvis. We love you.
It's also really important to note that there's no such thing as AutoTune in 1973. This is just Elvis' incredible vocal performance live, on stage, with no post production studio enhancements.
…Elvis was the FIRST and BEST! ...Elvis is the only singer most people know or have known! ... No singer is as known/famous/popular worldwide as Elvis and has been for almost 70 years!! ...His charisma is still unsurpassed to this day!! ... A singer for eternity!! ✨💎✨🕺🏻🕯 Thank you
I was nine years old when this concert aired. My mom had gone out for the evening and my babysitter let me stay up past my bedtime to watch it. I still remember being awestruck by the entire show.
Elvis was so worried that the airing of this show, which had never been done before, would be a flop. Boy, he had nothing to worry about!!! I saw him live when I was 16 in Louisville, Ky. My dad got my sister and me tickets for her birthday. It was amazing and he left everything on that stag. I'm now 69.
What's super sad is that it wasn't long after this that those haunting lyrics were true... "All my trials Lord,.. soon be over." This concert was unbelievably great because of his voice, the arrangement, and his backup. But he felt this so deeply as he sang, that it's emotionally staggering.
He was and still is the greatest of all times. I saw him live twice 1975 and 1977. I went to Graceland 1997 and it was great. Love him still to this day. He accomplished more than any other singer. Thanks for your reaction.
I remember watching that live. It was definitely anticipated. If you were out shopping, or whatever, everyone was talking about getting home in time to watch this concert. The number of people around the world watching was about one quarter of the earth's population. Can you imagine? One fourth of the world's population dropping what they were doing to watch one man sing. That's beyond incredible.
It was another first for Elvis. He was the first to perform a concert televised worldwide. In his "Comeback Special" he was the first to go "unplugged" (perform acoustic versions of his songs) before a TV audience. If it hadn't been for Elvis, "MTV Unplugged" wouldn't have existed.
It’s hard to imagine now, but Elvis was a member of our families. We loved him and watched everything he did and always wanted more, more, more. We literally loved him to death, but how could you help yourself? He was a gift.
No, I can imagine it now. I am 45 and after seeing the Elvis movie, I watched all his movies, read 10 books, looked at all his concert films and documentaries...downloaded all the songs... I feel like he is my long lost brother I never had. So does my husband.
It is hard to imagine, for sure, I try and transport myself to that time and think about how everyone would think and feel. It is hard to do, but sometimes it helps me imagine the impact of these songs and artists.
Just one of those rare people who had it, in spades. The magnetism he had in everything he did was just legit. Imagine the weight of walking around with that kind of adoration? He had 4 years left here, and it didn't even show yet.
The song is beautiful and the man Elvis was BEAUTIFUL. Yes I am in tears still over the loss of The King❤ One note, my step father played with Elvis when he first started out on The Louisiana Hayride.
One of the best performances Ever. I’m 70 and I was watching that night. You just can’t imagine the feelings. Just PRICELESS. Wish you would dive into his music. There will never be an entertainer like Elvis Again. You have to watch If I Can Dream. It’s a tribute to Martin Luther King, Robert Kennedy and just about what was going on in the 60’s
I was in my 20’s and my entire family watched it together. It was phenomenal. I remember trying to comprehend all the world watching at SAME time. Each different time zone knew what there time was. It was overwhelming.
I've viewed a few people react to this masterpiece of musical history and they just don't get it,I have viewed this performance many many times and every single time it gives me loss of oxygen
About a minute in, there’s a moment when this chap realises he is watching something very special, and he is roped in to what we have all known for decades. Priceless!
I was 13 when this concert Aloha from Hawaii was aired in 1973 and honestly I wasn’t familiar with Elvis at that time. My classmate called me and asked me if I was watching Elvis. So I turn on my little 12” b&w TV and was immediately in awe of what I was seeing on TV. I had to see Elvis in color so I ran to our living room and rudely changed the channel on our 25” color TV from whatever my parents were watching to Elvis. OMG Elvis was even more stunning in Color! after watching this show I instantly became a lifelong Elvis fan. His looks, his jumpsuit and his incredible voice. Only Elvis could pull off a TV concert being broadcasted live via satellite to forty countries and viewed by over a billion people. I was so fortunate in 1976, I saw Elvis in person.
I heard iwhen Elvis sang that song that there was a lot of women that actually fainted because it was so moving and emotional I also heard that there was tears of emotion on a lot of people. It makes me tear up watching the video.I could imagine being there in person.
The Backup group you enjoyed singing ( Dixie ) were life long friends of my parent's and mine . It's J.D. Sumner and the Stamp's Quartet . Most of them have passed away of course , It's been 50 years since this performance . We just lost '' Bill Baise '' the High Tenor a few months ago .
This song is the story of the American Civil War! To begin the trilogy, you have the Confederate Battle Hymn or DIXIE, next is the Northern Battle Hymn or Battle Hymn of the Republic, and lastly is the soldier dying in a battle! It is a fantastic reminder of a painful time in America's history! ELVIS was born and raised until he was 14 in Tupelo, Mississippi, which he loved and kept property in an adjoining County until he died. He was very proud of being SOUTHERN! He was absolutely phenomenol in this song! Thank you for a wonderful reaction! ❤
As an eleven year old, lying in the floor while our family watched this broadcast, we were all in tears after this performance. Even as a child, not knowing what the song was really about, you felt the emotions in each note. I'm from Tennessee, and I've never known my life without Elvis' influence. His songs still ring true with the same emotion. ♥
I remember putting the DVD on for my twin nephews when they were small, and they weren't sure what to make of it. "What's this?" About the only music by Elvis they'd heard was the gospel recordings. They did like the video of "Wooden Heart" where Elvis sings to a puppet.
Obviously, Elvis had a magnificent voice but let's not forget the world-class musicians that were playing with him and those amazing backup vocals. With a combination like that you pretty much had to have a magical end product. Elvis had many smash hits but to my mind where he really excelled was when he sang gospel music, and I don't think anyone ever sang gospel better than he did. I loved the fact that many times he was told that he could not sing a gospel song when he made a TV appearance (on the Ed Sullivan Show, for instance) and he would do it anyway. He had promised his mother that he would sing at least one gospel song in every concert or appearance, and he wasn't about to break his word to his mother because some little pipsqueak like Ed Sullivan told him he couldn't do it. What was Ed going to do? Refuse to have ELVIS on his show? I don't think so.
"The world's biggest rock star", more like the world's first megastar. There was nothing before him, nobody to guide him, he was alone in that level of fame. To put it into perspective, a TV audience of 1.5bn people watched that LIVE (minus the US - it clashed with the superbowl), that's 42% of TV's on this planet tuned into that concert... that's every THIRD person on Earth. Nobody has done it since, nobody else could pull that off so skillfully. His value and talent deserved that opportunity and the magnitude of it matched his charisma. Gives me goosebumps, and I'm from England. This man's talent and name must never die. To think he left this life believing nobody would remember him. Aloha was 50 years ago, I'm 48 and just introducing Elvis to my 11 year old and 6 year old. Long live the King.
You are so misinformed because of all the misleading hype you've read over the years. The concert did NOT clash with the Super Bowl. That is total nonsense. The "Aloha From Hawaii" show was NOT even shown in the U.S. until April 4, 1973. The 1.5 billion lie is pure fiction... started by Colonel Parker as 1 billion in 1973, and now it has evolved into the new lie of 1.5 billion. Please don't pass all the hyped lies on to your daughter.
The crescendo brings tears to my eyes every time... That powerful voice is just one of a kind... Saw him in concert in Philly at The Spectrum...Wonderful experience...If you ever get to Memphis, go to Graceland for the tour.
The amazing thing about EP and this performance in general, is that this type of song was frowned upon. Yet he did it anyway. And he performed it in a secular setting. To hear the crowd erupt in cheers and applause was truly breathtaking. We didn't know what we were watching as kids, we were 5 and 6. It wasn't until much later that the impact was realized, especially after his passing. Now his daughter Lisa with whom I share memories and many similarities, is no longer with us. It is still unfathomable to me. May she have reached Heaven, and experience everlasting peace in the comfort of Our Father, and her Daddy E! ❤ ✝ ✌ 💐
Such an icon, especially back then. I remember when he died and my mom told me who he was. She was a huge fan. Elvis always reminds me of my mom.... LJ
Amazing really...almost 50 years since the O.G. king was taken from us..and yet that voice is still moving mountains to this day.. remarkable. The atmosphere he created was encompassing, you felt every single letter of every single word. Still brings me to tears.
I'm 43 years old and a lifelong Elvis fan since a baby and this song gives me goosebumps every time I hear it to this day. Always has and probably always will. Elvis is the King for a reason. Over 1.6 Billion records sold worldwide and counting!!
Elvis can leave you speechless, right? I watched it with my family when I was 33 years old. I went to a couple of live concerts too. He was "electric".
The world seems to stand still when Elvis sings.
Ain't it the truth?!!
World population in 1973 was 3.9 Billion people and Elvis had 1.5 Billion watching this concert which is almost half the planet.
Sure... believe the exaggerated hype. 🙄Five years from now some people will be saying the number was closer to 2 billion.

I watched him in concert twice truely amazing was his permeances
I did watch this live in 73. I was 2 years out of the Navy. It was and still is haunting. I have tears every time I hear Elvis sing this. It reminds me that the cost of freedom has always been blood.
The fact that this is live and there was no auto tune during his lifetime. He had everythingy voice, looks, charisma. He will never be replaced. thank you
I so love this song- goosebumps every time
I've stressed the magnitude of this performance to people recently. They seem to not understand the gravitas of what Elvis had done. Legendary.
I watched the live performance in 73. It was unbelievable
@Sharon Jensen Lennon also said "before Elvis, there was nothing ".
This was the very first concert ever to be broadcast World Wide via Satellite.
Was a smashing, huge success.
You are welcome, thank you for being here and enjoying it with me. This is what its all about.
Led Zeppelin were big fans of Elvis. When they met him, they were so starstruck.
✨💎✨🕺🏻🕯 Thank you
We want much more Elvis, great reaction.
I was nine years old when this concert aired. My mom had gone out for the evening and my babysitter let me stay up past my bedtime to watch it. I still remember being awestruck by the entire show.
If you ever wonder why we call him KING, now you know, NOBODY can come close to this MAN. KING ELVIS
I was just a teenager and I remember watching ELVIS Live from England... It was an UNBELIEVABLE Show.... I will NEVER forget
"All my trials Lord,.. soon be over."
This concert was unbelievably great because of his voice, the arrangement, and his backup.
I watched it too
Yep I remember it well just like it was yesterday
@@sharonjensen3016 * Let's not forget that Elvis was also the first to have what they now call a "residency" performance in Las Vegas!
Once every 500 years god drops an angel on earth..amazing
Nah... Elvis was a man.
@ figuratively…jmo..what a talent
he was gifted.
He is still family
@@bemerson7883 yes he is. 💙
I did watch it live in 1973. It was fantastic. He was and still is the greatest performer ever.
I'm 55 yrs old. I got to see Elvis live in concert in 1975, I was only 6 but It's always stayed with me. I will never forget it❤❤
Just one of those rare people who had it, in spades. The magnetism he had in everything he did was just legit. Imagine the weight of walking around with that kind of adoration? He had 4 years left here, and it didn't even show yet.
The song is beautiful and the man Elvis was BEAUTIFUL. Yes I am in tears still over the loss of The King❤
One note, my step father played with Elvis when he first started out on The Louisiana Hayride.
Absolutely Love Elvis
Elvis is perfect, there Will never be one again. Your voice, your dance, your beauty.
There is a reason why Elvis was called the King.. There will never be anyone to match him.
I was in my 20’s and my entire family watched it together. It was phenomenal. I remember trying to comprehend all the world watching at SAME time. Each different time zone knew what there time was. It was overwhelming.
it's really something else, when you think about it. Thanks for sharing.
I was also in my 20's. Watched it with my mother and brother on a small color tv 11:03
There will NEVER be anyone that can measure up to Elvis.
Amazing! He was singing to all of us but he was singing to God. Touching!
Just The king
I've viewed a few people react to this masterpiece of musical history and they just don't get it,I have viewed this performance many many times and every single time it gives me loss of oxygen
About a minute in, there’s a moment when this chap realises he is watching something very special, and he is roped in to what we have all known for decades. Priceless!
Yes we watched this live it was unbelievable THE Elvis live on tv and this song just made your soul explode
Elvis himself was rumored as saying after he left the stage to this concert, that it ‘ Was the best thing he ever did!”
God’s man
I love this kind Man what a voice when i here him sing today i think he is still here sing with the Anglrs and ur loves ones from clare Ireland ❤🙏❤🙏🙏❤
I was 20 years old, my whole family watched it. I was so excited I couldn't take my eyes away from it, just perfect.
Great reaction! Hauntingly beautiful, powerful, iconic...that about sums it up. Everytime I see this performance I get emotional.
Elvis the one and only so glad i got to see him in concert when he came to Shreveport
@SalvoG pure emotion on your face and that is a beautiful thing to feel that from his presence and his voice. That is why he was so special.
I’ve heard this all my life, but was way too young to remember this performance. It really is phenomenal.
I remember putting the DVD on for my twin nephews when they were small, and they weren't sure what to make of it. "What's this?" About the only music by Elvis they'd heard was the gospel recordings. They did like the video of "Wooden Heart" where Elvis sings to a puppet.
So good to see your face… absorbed in the performance and appreciating every nuance of the phenomenon that is Elvis👌💕🕺
Elvis the King for ever.Thank You for sharing😂😊😅❤❤
The greatest entertainer of all time!🥰
I too watched him on National TV............. I Cried when I heard the News 🗞️ My first Album was Elvis 💕💕💕💕🕊️
That drum roll almost at the beginning makes the song even more exciting, and that Hallelujah is simply ethereal.
I enjoyed your insights on this great performance by Elvis. Thank you.
FIRE 🔥 🔥🔥🔥🔥
I was 9 when this aired! In love ever since, aware of his music since a child. This man is worth every note! Learn about him!
LJ
ONLY Elvis! 💕💕💥💥💥💥💕💕 Thank you for this video!
How and where did you come up with "1.6 billion records sold worldwide"??
Elvis can leave you speechless, right? I watched it with my family when I was 33 years old. I went to a couple of live concerts too. He was "electric".
