  • Hello Lovelies!! Today I am bringing you along as I am piecing together a t-shirt quilt top. I wanted to show you how the Elmer's School Glue eliminates the need for pins and speeds up the process of the construction of your quilt tops.
    Feel free to join me on Facebook!! I'd love to see pictures of your work :)

    Yesterday I tried your method with basting t shirt fabrics with glue. Perfect. Then I used a stretch seam, with the 3 parallel lines, to sew the 1/4 in seam. Voila. Perfect. Thank you for sharing

    Hello, I did my first quilt during the lockdown last April. I had the dream of making a t-shirt quilt for my 22 year old son, going in the army early 2021. I've gathered many t-shirts, I've bought the Pellon and started to cut and stabilized, yep, on my own. I'm so happy I stumbled on your UA-cam videos, what a game changer that's going to be. Thanks for all your teaching, makes me feel more secure now. Btw, I paused the video and ordered the glue lolll I'll let you know how good it goes. If I have other questions, is it on your Facebook page?? Thanks again.

    I know I asked before about your preference of the bottle glue over the glue sticks and watching this video it all makes sense. Lol. It really looks like by running that small bead of glue along your seams is much easier and cleaner looking. Idk, in my mind especially for T-shirt’s it seems like having to press and move the glue sticks could distort your work too. As always thanks for sharing your knowledge with us. You are such a great teacher. 😁

    • @TheQuiltmakerHomestead
      @TheQuiltmakerHomestead  7 років тому +1

      +Wacky Jacky one thing to keep in mind when piecing quilt blocks together with glue, is that you only want your glue to be in the seam allowance. Using a glue stick...it may be more difficult to keep the glue inside that quarter inch seam....enless you have a mighty small glue stick lol. Doing applique with a glue stick it may not matter as much

    • @TheTXGal7

      Hello, Lisa. I LOVE this glue technique!!! I do have one question, however. I noticed whenever I glue my seams that they cannot be ironed out in the "flat open" position after sewing them. I have to press them either to the left or right. Is that okay for the seams not to be ironed flat / open? Is there ever a time when that would cause a problem? (Thank you!)

    I am getting ready to do my first tshirt quilt for my daughter.(and I haven’t used a sewing machine in 25 yrs). Your videos have been so helpful. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge.
    How long does it take you from start to finish to do a tshirt quilt? Just curious, I know I will take much longer...

    • @TheQuiltmakerHomestead
      @TheQuiltmakerHomestead  3 роки тому

      Hi Cathy, I'm excited to hear about you starting this quilt! I think it depends on the design on the t-shirt quilt on how long it will take me.....I usually give myself a week to finish one. Keep in mind, this is my full time job.....so it could take 40 hours or less. Most of my clients order throw size quilts, and these I can knock out in 2 days :)

      Sherrie Schnelle hello :) we made the wall from insulation board found at Lowe's :) covered with batting. Most fabrics stick right to it, however t-shirt blocks are to heavy so I pin them straight to the wall ♡

    Lisa been watching you thank you for your videos… I have cut out the T-shirts and stabilize the backs and I have rows of five T-shirts across and down there’s one row 16 x 15 each T-shirt and 3 rows are 16 x 16 and one row 16 x 14” .........I seen you put them directly together but my son wants his army fatigues in between so I was gonna cut it two or 2 1/2 inch border around each t-shirt......do I need to do it with the glue As you did with the T-shirt T-shirt, but since it is thick material do I need to do that or just sew the borders around the t-shirts?????Any help would be appreciated thank you

    • @TheQuiltmakerHomestead
      @TheQuiltmakerHomestead  5 років тому +1

      Hey Dee :) Using the glue is totally up to you, it's a tool that will aid in the construction of your quilt. Some people find it helpful no matter what type of quilt they are putting together, t-shirt quilts or patchwork quilts. You more then likely can add your borders without the use of the glue and so if you don't want to use it, give it a try without and see. If you have difficulty you can always break it out and use it just like using pins :)

    • @TheQuiltmakerHomestead
      @TheQuiltmakerHomestead  7 років тому +1

      +Wacky Jacky my favorite stabilizer is the Pellon P44F, apparel interfacing - basics. It is super light weight and adds VERY little additional weight to the overall quilt. I buy it by the bolt at Joann's using a 50% off coupon:)
