    Thank you for this video. Trying to make my first tshirt quilt and the thought of cutting someone's shirts is the scariest part.

    Thank you so much for making such an easy guide to follow along! I am prepping over 50 shirts from childhood for my own first quilt (of any kind!) and I am trying to DIY as much of the prep as I feel "comfortable" - this is definitely something I can do!

    Your series is a life saver for beginners. I made 5 t-shirt quilts for family members and learn more each time. Wish I had seen your videos before I got started. The second one I made was for my granddaughter and I incorporated her toddler dress complete with tutu. Plus making it more challenging I used pink minky for backing. It turned out cute and cuddly... if you don't look too closely. But it was made and received with love. That's the important thing.

      Do you mark the middle of the shirt so when you separate the front and back you are assured that you've cut in the middle?

    This looks like an excellent way to teach A younger person how to cut their T-shirts to prepare them for stabilizing. It feels safer than using a rotary cutter. I have use the rotary cutter before and not run into any problems however I like this method for teaching young people.

    What are some things I can do with the extra fabric besides cleaning rags?

    • @TheQuiltmakerHomestead
      @TheQuiltmakerHomestead  Рік тому +1

      I like to make dog beds and use the extra t-shirt bits to stuff a pillowcase:)

  • @remyaf2404

    I already purchased a stabilizer, but the quilt I'm making is of my late husband's t-shirts. I want it to turn out great so I'm thinking I should maybe buy the one you are using and get it right from the start. I'm wondering though, what are your thoughts on using different brands of stabilizer for the same quilt? Will that work out poorly?

    • @TheQuiltmakerHomestead
      @TheQuiltmakerHomestead  2 роки тому

      Depending on the different stabilizers....some areas may be stiffer than others when mixing and matching different types. I'm not sure it matters in the big scheme of things, but I'd be aware that is a possibility ♡♡♡

    I have a couple of tees that have some small holes in them. Is there something I can do with the holes so I can use them in my quilt? I can’t wait to make my first t-shirt quilt! I have watched all of your videos on making them. Maybe I’ll remember something, lol! Thanks for the great tip about the glue! I have a lot of trouble with one edge of my quilting blocks being a little longer than the other when I finish sewing them. Please keep up the great work. Thanks for any help you can give to me.

    • @TheQuiltmakerHomestead
      @TheQuiltmakerHomestead  6 років тому

      Vickie Munoz good question, and YES you can use them :) I have done several shirts this way: from a piece of the same shirt that is not being used, cut a small patch a couple inches bigger than the hole. Adhere to backside of shirt using Fabric-Tac glue. It is a permanent fabric glue. When it is set, stabilize the shirt in the normal way. It works really well and blends in pretty well. It is also helpful of you can quilt around the patches area just to reinforce that patch.

      Thank you so much! I really wanted to use them! They were my kids, worn during their junior and teen years. I’m so excited to think I can finally use them! I’ve been saving them for about 20 years. They will be so surprised when I finally get the quilts done! Thanks again. Almost forgot to ask how much of the area of the patch do I put the glue on?

    • @TheQuiltmakerHomestead
      @TheQuiltmakerHomestead  6 років тому

      Vickie Munoz atleast surround the entire hole with the glue, and go easy so that it doesnt bleed through :) keep me updated on your quilt :)

    How do you use a sleeveless shirt? More like a tank top? My granddaughter gave me a pile of her shirts that she wants me to make a quilt with. My first time doing a t shirt quilt. I'm a little nervous about this. I was going to sew in some extra fabric to the sleeve area to make it large enough to use.

      Sueseajoy good question! Two reasons really......I find a 100 other things to spend the money on....and space is limited in my smaller studio. I think one day I may just get one.....
