I remeber it well. There was one West Ham supporter at the end of Holyport road. He had his front door nailed up! You could not move in the Crabtree. I was a kid and earned fortune that week from the men leaving the pub in thier cups. Then we went and lost and the punch ups started! Every man was football manager that night.
When they lost, the next day at Craven Cottage, the players appeared at the Putney end and apologized one by one to the crowd. That was a nice touch.
