Dave said "if he only had a few seconds to tell his family and friends good by" this is what he'd say because they all ready know he loves them. A tous le monde A tous les amis Je vous aime Je dois partir The translation: To all the world To all my friends I love you I have to leave It is often interpreted as a suicide song but it is not at all. More of a if your on your death bed.
Dave Mustaine wrote 'A tout le monde' (French for 'To everyone') in 1994 after his mom Emily Mustaine died... The lyrics were very personal because Dave Mustaine himself survived an OD while on tour w/ Megadeth in 1993 - his heart stopped in the ER and he had to be resuscitated... And this was after his son Justis was born in 1992. He was hurting really bad and abusing he+++n while making the 1994 album 'Youthanasia'... and Megadeth's inner circle forced him into rehab because they didn't want to see him die after his near-death experience. In 2007, Megadeth re-recorded the song as 'A tout le monde (Set me free)' as a duet w/ singer Cristina Scabbia of Lacuna Coil... she also appeared in the music video. Lacuna Coil had been friends w/ Dave Mustaine for years and opened for Megadeth on numerous tours. For those who don't know, Dave Mustaine was abused by his father as a child before his parents divorced... Dave recalled that his dad (who was a violent alcoholic) would stalk, menace & threaten his mom growing up and they would have to move every time he found them. He left his mom's home as a teen and became a drug dealer... that was how he got records by Motorhead, Iron Maiden, Venom, Diamond Head, etc. and was able to buy a guitar and gear to join a band by the late 70's... He said he contacted his dad and arranged to meet him but his dad suffered an aneurysm and ended up in the hospital... Dave showed up drunk and his sister told him that he was going to end up like his dad. His dad never gained consciousness and passed away... Dave said being fired from Metallica was much more detrimental to him because the band meant much more to him; he knew that Metallica had potential to be huge... and losing that was traumatic. His whole aim of forming Megadeth was to get revenge on his former bandmates... but he ended up fighting w/ his bandmates in Megadeth as well because he was a toxic mix of drugs and alcohol in the 80's. However, he was devastated when he was told that Metallica bassist Cliff Burton was killed in a bus accident in 1986... Dave said he cried upon hearing the news and wrote the song 'In my darkest hour' ... in response as an eulogy to Cliff Burton. One of the major differences between Megadeth and Metallica were the lyrics... Dave Mustaine wanted to write meaningful lyrics on a wide array of topics, while James Hetfield tended to be more about personal issues dealing w/ negativity ... Mustaine wrote about things like the environment... politics... social issues and commentary ... world events... religion... etc. Songs like 'Symphony of destruction'... 'Countdown to extinction' ... 'Youthanasia' ... 'Use the man' ... 'Peace sells' ... 'Ashes in your mouth'... were some of his best lyrics.
Nice! This album, Youthanasia, is an overlooked Megadeth album for some reason. Soo many bangers, you guys would love "Addicted To Chaos" from this album. You can hear that Megadeth was entering a more mature and reflective era, still heavy but more smooth.
So many tears have been shed while listening to this song. Including while watching this. "So as you read this know my friends, I'd love to stay with you all Smile when you think of me, my body's gone that's all" This was what my brother and I decided would go on the back of our father's memoriam pamplet that was handed out at his funeral.
This song holds a bittersweet memory for me, it helped me cope with a very dark time in my life when my long time girlfriend died in a car accident and I had almost wanted to give up. Rest in Peace Alyssa I will see you again someday ❤😢
I empathize and wish you well. That's my story too, so yes; this hits hard in the way it can be interpreted. My fiance died after a long battle with disease, the best parts of me died along with her, and she was French. RIP: Audrey.
The beauty of music is that you can interpret it in different ways and make it mean something dear to you! I am truly sorry for your losses. Peace in Christ and long live the power of ROCK! 🎸🎸🎸🎸
This was one of the first songs i learned on guitar 20 years ago. havne't thought about the song in probably 15 years ago. so glad you brought this shit back up since i picked up my guitar 2 nights ago. such a banger of a tune.
I think this is the closest Dave and Co ever came to a ballad/power ballad. And it did do fairly well on radio from what I remember. My personal top 3: Train of Consequences, Trust, Angry Again. Also gotta get to Almost Honest, 99 Ways to Die, and an underrated track from their early days, Crush em
If I recall correctly Dave wrote this after he overdosed and was revived similarly to what happened to Nikki Sixx as it inspired a song reflecting on the experience musically mind you in polar opposite ways.
Megadeth did release their mega-ballad "A Tout Le Monde" as a single and caught a lot of flak about it from people who thought the song was promoting a "pro-suicide" mindset. "Youthanasia" is a great Megadeth album, possibly my favorite, with many other tunes you should also give a listen to such as "I Thought I Knew It All", "Addicted To Chaos", "Reckoning Day", "Elysian Fields", "Family Tree" and "Train of Consequences"
The reason there was "bad blood" between Metallica and Megadeth comes from the fact that Dave Mustaine was originally Metallica's guitarist. He considered the band's members his best friends, then, one day James and Lars woke him up, gave him a bust ticket back home, and told him he was out of the band. Even though Megadeth became successful and one of the three great trash metal bands, Dave always felt like he was prevented from being in a successful band with his friends and never got over not having been part of Metallica's journey. Also, Dave's guitar playing style set up Metallica's signature sound, which Krik and James kept even after Dave left, so he actually had to see the band becoming the biggest metal act in the world without him but using something he created. A decade or so ago they finally reconciled, but even though their relationship now seems more peaceful and we even got to see Dave playing with Metallica, you can see he's still hurt by how he always mentions that he lost his best friends when they kicked him out of the band.

There was a huge amount of bad blood between the two bands. As far as I know, it was Megadeth that had more hatred towards Metallica, and that heat also filtered down to the fans of each band. I loved them both, and I got heat from both bands' fan base for not picking a side. This is one of my favourite tracks, Angry Again, Trust & Family Tree are some more tracks you should get out by Megadeth. 🤘🤘

Dave's daughter does a beautiful acoustic duet cover of this on some old recording of an LA morning TV show. Everyone should check it out if you like this song or not. 🤘🏻
I have always interpreted this as a suicide letter. Mustaine has said it is not when asked directly about it, by interviewers. He, actually, remade the song, as a duet, with Cristina Scabbia, of Lacuna Coil. That version, has more of a lost love kind of feel to it.

Megadeth made a Metallica diss track lol, it's called "Something I'm Not" off of their album The System Has Failed (another banger album that gets overlooked). Edit: this is the same era when Metallica released St. Anger and Lars and Dave Mustaine sat down in somewhat of a therapy session. It was a time of major turmoil, and Metallica came close to breaking up. Glad Metallica stuck it out, Death Magnetic was released in 2008 (a return to the more old school style of Metallica), and it still remains in my Top 3 Metallica albums. Love both bands, we don't have to pick one or the other.
I was introduced to Megadeth by my son, who are playing Megadeth both on guitar and bass. So I grew to love this song as well. I would really like you guys to try to listen to a Danish Band called Dizzy Mizz Lizzy. They are really good and frontman Tim Christensen has made a huge amount of music both with this band, another band called The Damned Crystals and solo. Check him/them out!!
It's pronounced à too la mond. 😂 It means "to all the world". You got it. Nice to hear more than the title or a single phrase in French. I'm a relatively recent convert. I like Megadeth and Mustaine himself too. 😊🤙🏼🎶❤️🍁❤️✨️🕊
Hey Trash Talkers, people have already commented on how this song was misinterpreted as a suicide song. Just want to add that this music video was banned on MTV because of that misinterpretation. Eventually, they allowed the song back with a note at the end how suicide is not the answer and to seek help. Anyway, could you please react to "Death - Pull the Plug" or "Death - Left to Die". Death is a band that helped birth and shape a new metal genre (death metal) after thrash metal (Metallica, Megadeth). The band leader was a great musician and composer, I think you might find them interesting.
This isn't tiktok. No need for words like unalived. It's only just an offensively more retarded way to say a word that was ok in the first place. Killed isn't a bad word.
I gave up on Megadeth when Mustaine started his Nugent BS. (He was marginal at best. He had Freidman and Menza in his band and still screwed it up.) But that album was stellar. This track especially was in heavy rotation for years at our house.
idk who talks shit about Megadeth, but i imagine those that do also do the same about Metallica and any other classic Heavy Metal band in general. i pity those fools like Mr T would! "they cant do nothing but hate! Megadeth and Metallica are good, sucka! you fool!" that's what he'd say.
Not a radio hit. Metal bands didn't get airplay back then. It managed to reach number 31 on the rock chart but got no love on the Hot 100 chart. The video actually got banned on MTV because they thought it promoted (YT friendly way of putting it) life termination.
@@CroMagJohnson yeah man, Risk is the one Megadeth album I think was a complete disaster from start to finish. I just cannot listen to that album lol.
@@BigHomieSteveTheMetalHead me either. i really like the world needs a hero though. there are a couple songs that aren't that good, but after risk, i thought it was a huge improvement..
Megadeth has the superior musicians Metallica has the sound thats more accessible. Both bands are incredible song writers and the link between them isn't a negative thing. It's amazing.
I was in my early 20s when this song came out, and I was not impressed when i first heard it. At the time, I felt Dave was pulling a 'monkey see, monkey do' with Metallica. I'm referring of course to Metallica's softer hits Nothing Else Matters and The Unforgiven. 3 decades later, I'm totally fine with it, but man...at the time, I was pissed off at Dave. Inside, I'm thinking "NOT YOU TOO!!!"lol
In popularity of the big 4 it was Metallica, slayer, megadeth, and then Anthrax. At least in my area. Megadeth will ALWAYS top Metallica in my opinion. But you guys have to check out the remake with Christia scabbia of lacuna coil. Way better version.
Sad song. Also I feel like after 30 years this song has been shamelessly pimped out and no longer has meaning, between all the remasters or the version with Cristina Scabbia. I've had complete normies be like "I heard this song A Tout Le Monde" after that version came out, people who would have acted like metal was satanic music before, approach me like they respect it now. Oof.
Back in the 90s when you heard distorted guitars all over MTV all day long... What a great era. Crazy to think about metal being super mainstream. Today, it's all soft as fuck.
This version drags a bit and feels sluggish. They remade it in 2007 in a quicker tempo along with Cristina Scabbia providing some lyric and backup vocals.
@@mikethemotormouth oh, you mean a song that they already listened to ..just a live version? 4 months ago? So, 2 Rush songs per year...is that what you're saying?
@@correctlyrics given the amount of groups and artists(and that's just concerning music, aside from the viral videos and such that they'll watch like "Rapping for Jesus" or "White Guy's First Black Cookout" or comedians like Gabriel Iglesias' "Racial Gift Basket") that are worth covering, I'd say 2 or 3 Rush songs a year is generous, or it is until we get a dedicated Rush Thursday like some people are pushing for

@@BigHomieSteveTheMetalHead me either. i really like the world needs a hero though. there are a couple songs that aren't that good, but after risk, i thought it was a huge improvement..
T/Y guys for your input on the song,
I thought the video of it was better
IDK ... Sorry? 🤔🤷🏻⁉️
@@Tomi_BuzzCat it's cool, man. you are allowed to like what you like. it just surprised me.
This is a GREAT SONG, there's a new version with a female doing the chorus with him, she wasn't on the original
PLEASE DO AN ENTIRE YOUTHANASIA ALBUM REVIEW
Megadeth is one of my favorites !!!! I’m not much of a Metallica fan!!!!
In popularity of the big 4 it was Metallica, slayer, megadeth, and then Anthrax. At least in my area. Megadeth will ALWAYS top Metallica in my opinion. But you guys have to check out the remake with Christia scabbia of lacuna coil. Way better version.
To all the world, to all my friends;I love you all, I have to leave.
Oof.
It is close but band for band I favor Megadeth.
But the way react to this song but duet with Christina Scabia of lacuna coil
Back in the 90s when you heard distorted guitars all over MTV all day long... What a great era. Crazy to think about metal being super mainstream. Today, it's all soft as fuck.
This version drags a bit and feels sluggish. They remade it in 2007 in a quicker tempo along with Cristina Scabbia providing some lyric and backup vocals.
And STILL no Rush.
🤦🤦🤦🤦🤦
They did a live cut of Working Man just 4 months ago. How impatient can you be?

Mustaine doesn't sound French to me
' A Toute Le Monde ' ...
Dave Mustaine wrote THIS song about his Mom ...
Even though the video or song sounds like it's about suicide, etc.🤔🤷🏻⁉️
Try Megadeth feat. Cristina Scabbia - A Tout Le Monde !
