  • In this episode I take a look at the recurring Final Fantasy summon Titan origins and its enduring significance and appeal within the game series. This is a brief overview of the original Greek mythology creation of Titan and how it has somewhat faithfully been adapted into the pantheon of Final Fantasy deities. This is part of a series on Final Fantasy lore I’ve long been meaning to start following on from my History of Final Fantasy Summons episode that can be found here:

I believe you've said previously you haven't played it so don't wish to speak to it, but the intro regarding Titan not appearing consistently and not having a oft-recurring wind counterpart makes me wish that you were able to analyze some aspects of the world building in Final Fantasy 14, as I'd find it very interesting to hear of any salient points where the handling of various motifs is inline or utterly out-of-sorts with other representations in the series.

The new FF16 Shows them before they fully go into god form and their battles so it’s not necessarily showing the history spoken of in FFXV I mean it might we don’t know yet but it’s definitely showing what the gods were before becoming summons I believe

I'm interested to know if there's any Japanese mythology that explains the use of the earth element in ff. At least in the ff where magic is prominent (the original series up to 9, and 11...ff13 and 15 felt more like a modern hack and slash twitch game), earth is kind of second fiddle to the primary big 3 of fire ice and lightning. Nothing is really weak to earth. Earth generally is just a higher base damage element that flying enemies are immune to. Wind is generally the more favored second tier element as there are many flying enemies weak to wind. Earth is generally not very useful in ff aside from maybe early in the mid game when you first get it
