Just ordered an ugoos am8 pro. I like the full metal design better than the plastic. Usually use a mini keyboard with trackpad. And the extra usb slots and as card slot are a nice bonus. Will use it with coreelec.

Hi Nick, hope you're well. Like Ugoos stuff always reliable & good quality, I used to always buy Minix but was disappointed with the U22-xj. Loathed to criticise the box, i don't have a problem with Android 11, it works & is solid (how much better would it have been if we'd have all skipped 10?) Nor the Netflix thing, whole idea of these things originally was to cut your subs 😂But this is too expensive, lack of USB's etc you've covered, if it drops i might be tempted. Also I still love the Minix remotes, how hard is it to stick a keyboard on the back these days? Especially at that price 😲 Great review as always, cheers 🍻🍻

Great product. But...as long as CoreElec don't provide a compliant OS version, the box can't play Dolby Vision profile 7 FEL (the higher profile only available in Blu-Ray desktop player). I have the Ugoos AM6+ with CoreElec installed and Dolby Vision MKV are awesome ! Keen to update to SK1 as soon as CoreElec releases. Thank you.

Hello Nick, I'm interested in this box and the Nvidia Shield. I'm struggling to decide which one is more suitable for watching movies and television shows.
The SK1 is better because it gives you a bit more flexibility with the firmware being the mobile version with the mobile version of the Google Play Store. You can display your apps nicely on the launcher's dashboard. With the Nvidia Shield, you have a Google-certified device that can stream Netflix in HD and 4K officially. However, you have the Android TV version of the Google Play Store which is restricted, and it does not give you the flexibility running Android TV OS. You also don't get root access with the Nvidia Shield if you need it.
I spoke to them a couple of days ago and instead of sending a sample for review they wanted me to pay $90 so I declined. Someone was sent it sooner or later.

No I cannot. UA-cam has a noose around our necks where that is concerned. One wrong move and show viewers how to access that kind of content and all your years of hard work to build a UA-cam channel would disappear in a flash with no chance of getting it back. This is every UA-camr's nightmare. I am sure you are finding it very difficult to find that content on UA-cam compared to previous years when there was Kodi, streaming APKs, and all sorts of content. That is no more. My channel was suspended three times and that the last time I almost lost it.

At last we see the Amlogic S928X in action. Sadly though it is rather outdated with Android 11 (32 bit too?!)and they are still sticking with the dated 2 basic USB ports and no other expansion. I fear that QUALCOMM's new SOC that I would expect to see at all ends of the market could make all other TV boxes obsolete overnight. For the price I would expect more in 2024.
@@pablodee7479 I knew I forgot to mention something. The Google Play Store is not restrictive I know when it restrictive when I can't find simple apps like Panda mouse Pro and Panda gamepad Pro I found all these apps. What you won't find is a 64-bit apps as they are not compatible.

I think I scared them off a couple of years ago when they launched their very first Android box and the hardware was so bad that the video was riddled with negative criticism and they probably vouched never to feature a box to my channel again. I'm new to the TVbox side of things. I would like to upgrade the sound from my TV to my 2 channel set up. Right now, I'm just using TOSlink to my DAC and I was hoping that the SK1 could improve the sound quality. If so, the SK1 looks like the one to buy and covers everything except one thing. Can I control it via an APP or do I have to use the remote? I don't see it mentioned anywhere.
There are two ways you can connect the box for surround sound audio. The first way is by connecting the box directly to your TV, and the optical audio to your receiver. Providing your TV as Surround sound audio pass-through you may get Surround sound formats such as Dolby Atmos pastoral to the receiver. The second way is connecting the box to one of your receiver's HDMI input first, and then the HDMI output from the receiver to your television. What happens in this scenario is that it guarantees you get Surround sound formats via the speakers connected to your receiver only, as the receiver will assume all audio functions and are not the TV speaker. Another thing to note is that there is a misconception about optical audio that is superior to HDMI audio. This is not the case. Optical audio cannot process formats such as Dolby TrueHD, DTS HD master audio, DTS X, and Dolby Surround due to compression issues. So you basically get Dolby Atmos only. HDMI on the other hand can facilitate all formats.

I really, really hate to be critical of Ugoos, i own an am3, an am6 and an am7 and in my very humble opinion based on usb 3 port numbers alone the am7 is a much better Box, also has 1 usb 2 port and 1 usb C port. Also their price on this box with such limited ports is a bit Cheeky. IMO.... 🤑

So among the tree models the AM8 Pro has the highest performance benchmarks. And compared to this model has more USB and SD card ports. So if you're looking for the best of the models you should go with the Ugoos AM8. If you are on a tight budget you can go with the first AM8 model and you are not losing much
For this high price, we can even buy an Android TV 4K which includes all the functions on this Android TV Box, even though the specifications are not as fast as this.

Any help would be appreciated please. Thinking of getting a ugoos box. I have a NAS with 4tb SSD in raid 0 setup for fast seek times of local media over my 1 gig ethernet connection. No WiFi everything cabled with 1 gig switch and 1gig cables etc. Problem...I am finding an issue with seek times on 4k media files on my shield tv and my android phone. If i skip ahead 10min it takes up to 30-40secs to seek and play would this box seek across 4k media any quicker??
There are is one thing that comes to mind and that is HDR and Dolby Vision formatted videos. In my experience in recent boxes I found that it takes about one second for the video to start to play and that is because the box is set to Adaptive HDR where it has to trigger the feature on the TV causing a black screen for about one second then start to play. Setting the display to HDR always on or Dolby Vision always on will solve this issue of the time it takes for the TV to trigger the feature. Another feature you should enable or disable depending on which works best, it auto framerate switching this can be a big problem when switching between videos or skipping the video timeline with different frame rates, resolution, or video formats. Where is your mobile phone is concerned I am not sure how this applies but on Android boxes such as the Ugoos models you have these features.
I saw the Nokia box before but it's not available in the US on Amazon or any retail store. I also cannot get a sponsor to send a sample copy to the channel. I will see what other options are available but no promises.
Yes that's the one workaround to get a high-performance android box from your mobile phone. However, in a practical usage the majority of users will find that a bit cumbersome. Thanks for sharing

When connected to a USB type C display such as a portable monitor, or a USB type C hub connected to your TV you get an independent interface similar to an Android box launcher with a start menu and right-click functions. With this setup you can only use your mobile phone like an Android TV box connected to your TV, and because your mobile phone is more powerful Android boxes, it means that you can also enjoy high-performance Android gaming. Via a USB type C hub you can connect gamepad controllers, air mouse, and external storage.
Yes that was my very first disappointing thing about this model. So much power you can get from this chipset and yet they configure in a 32 bit. A dealbreaker for hardware enthusiasts.

I have literally bought every version of you Ugoose since the UT3, I loved it too. The am6 and the am6 pro where the best boxes they ever developed . I have been disappointed with the am7 the am8 performance wise so I'm going to skip this version. I'm throwing the Am8 in the trash because it's garbage. .

That would place you into the category of hardware enthusiasts like myself. Just want any box but a box that can deliver everything you need, which is difficult to find.
Ugoos would never get a license on a device running AOSP. They would need to be running on a certified Google tvOS. These devices are not aimed at people who want certified official streaming apps. Certified official streaming apps can be installed on any smart TV.
Minix has their version for 349 and 50 dollars off, instead I ordered the Minix U8K-Ultra for 264.89 from Amazon with $50 off. I'm thinking of canceling the order already. Like Ugoos, it's running in 32bit mode. An android box this much money, not running in 64-bit mode, it's not worth it. I would rather have the edge 2 or vim4. Those boxes run in 64-bit mode. I really need a new Android box. My last was Minix X39, ran perfect. My current Ugoos UT8 Pro, sucks! Kodi won't work. Cannot install any builds among other issues. If I decide to accept the Minix, I'll do a review.

The first way is by connecting the box directly to your TV, and the optical audio to your receiver. Providing your TV as Surround sound audio pass-through you may get Surround sound formats such as Dolby Atmos pastoral to the receiver.
The second way is connecting the box to one of your receiver's HDMI input first, and then the HDMI output from the receiver to your television. What happens in this scenario is that it guarantees you get Surround sound formats via the speakers connected to your receiver only, as the receiver will assume all audio functions and are not the TV speaker.
Another thing to note is that there is a misconception about optical audio that is superior to HDMI audio. This is not the case. Optical audio cannot process formats such as Dolby TrueHD, DTS HD master audio, DTS X, and Dolby Surround due to compression issues. So you basically get Dolby Atmos only. HDMI on the other hand can facilitate all formats.

I really, really hate to be critical of Ugoos, i own an am3, an am6 and an am7 and in my very humble opinion based on usb 3 port numbers alone the am7 is a much better Box, also has 1 usb 2 port and 1 usb C port. Also their price on this box with such limited ports is a bit Cheeky. IMO.... 🤑

So among the tree models the AM8 Pro has the highest performance benchmarks. And compared to this model has more USB and SD card ports. So if you're looking for the best of the models you should go with the Ugoos AM8. If you are on a tight budget you can go with the first AM8 model and you are not losing much

I have a NAS with 4tb SSD in raid 0 setup for fast seek times of local media over my 1 gig ethernet connection. No WiFi everything cabled with 1 gig switch and 1gig cables etc.
Problem...I am finding an issue with seek times on 4k media files on my shield tv and my android phone. If i skip ahead 10min it takes up to 30-40secs to seek and play would this box seek across 4k media any quicker??
There are is one thing that comes to mind and that is HDR and Dolby Vision formatted videos. In my experience in recent boxes I found that it takes about one second for the video to start to play and that is because the box is set to Adaptive HDR where it has to trigger the feature on the TV causing a black screen for about one second then start to play. Setting the display to HDR always on or Dolby Vision always on will solve this issue of the time it takes for the TV to trigger the feature. Another feature you should enable or disable depending on which works best, it auto framerate switching this can be a big problem when switching between videos or skipping the video timeline with different frame rates, resolution, or video formats. Where is your mobile phone is concerned I am not sure how this applies but on Android boxes such as the Ugoos models you have these features.

Yes that was my very first disappointing thing about this model. So much power you can get from this chipset and yet they configure in a 32 bit. A dealbreaker for hardware enthusiasts.

I have literally bought every version of you Ugoose since the UT3, I loved it too. The am6 and the am6 pro where the best boxes they ever developed . I have been disappointed with the am7 the am8 performance wise so I'm going to skip this version. I'm throwing the Am8 in the trash because it's garbage. .

I order ugoos sk1 8k streaming divice and it's fast received ofter I set all set-up in my JVC NZ 900 8k projector iam very happy with colours and 8 k reply but iam very sad to see it not supported for Dolby Atmos sound in Hotstar and Amazon prime but picture is very good and its very upset this divice not supporting to see Netflix and apple tv company take care of about it

Minix has their version for 349 and 50 dollars off, instead I ordered the Minix U8K-Ultra for 264.89 from Amazon with $50 off. I'm thinking of canceling the order already. Like Ugoos, it's running in 32bit mode. An android box this much money, not running in 64-bit mode, it's not worth it. I would rather have the edge 2 or vim4. Those boxes run in 64-bit mode. I really need a new Android box. My last was Minix X39, ran perfect. My current Ugoos UT8 Pro, sucks! Kodi won't work. Cannot install any builds among other issues. If I decide to accept the Minix, I'll do a review.
