This is NOT the last day in the 2 weeks in Bangkok video travel guide series - still have one more day coming tomorrow (15 days in total). On Day 14 we started off eating at a famous Halal Thai restaurant in Bangkok and then went to a few attractions and rode a boat, and then finally we searched out and found one of the best versions of Pad Thai I’ve ever had in Bangkok.
00:28 Muslim Restaurant (อาหารมุสลิม) - Right in the heart of Bangrak in Bangkok is a famous halal restaurant called Muslim Restaurant (อาหารมุสลิม) that has been around for a very long time and is a pretty legendary restaurant. We first ate there for breakfast to start the day. The mataba gai (มะตะบะไก่), chicken stuffed roti was pretty good, but the best dish of the meal for me was the khao mok pae (ข้าวหมกแพะ), which is goat biryani. The food at Muslim Restaurant (อาหารมุสลิม) is overall quite good and it’s a decent restaurant to eat at if you’re looking for Thai halal food right in the heart of Bangkok at Bangrak / Silom.
6:54 Baan Silapin (บ้านศิลปิน) - After having a delicious breakfast, we jumped into a taxi and rode over to Baan Silapin (บ้านศิลปิน), which is also known at the Thai Artist’s House. It’s a house and community area located along the canal on the Thonburi side of the river in Bangkok. It’s kind of a touristy artistic place where you can go to walk around, enjoy the atmosphere of the canal side community and they also occasionally have traditional Thai puppet shows (however, things are changing there, so I’m not sure if they will continue to offer Thai puppet shows in the future). In any case, it’s a nice place to walk around and explore and I had an iced coffee. While we were there, we saw a sign to rent a long tail boat, so we hired a longtail boat to take us on a tour around the canal in Bangkok and then eventually we came back out to the Chao Phraya river where the driver dropped us off at Wat Kalayanamitr (วัดกัลยาณมิตรวรมหาวิหาร) temple - we wanted to get dropped there to explore another area of Bangkok.
10:53 Santa Cruz Church (ซางตาครู้ส) and the Kudeejeen Community - One of the lesser visited areas of Bangkok, but one that has a lot of history is the area around Santa Cruz Church (ซางตาครู้ส) and what’s known as the Kudeejeen Community. The area is home to a mix of Thai and Portuguese and Chinese and it’s an interesting area of Bangkok to walk around. we stopped at Thanusingha Bakery House (ธนูสิงห์) for a famous snack Thai Portuguese snack made in the area, and then we walked over to the church as well. Then we headed back to Chatrium hotel.
15:17 Pad Thai Soi Pradu (ผัดไทยซอยวัดประดู่) - I have to first start off my saying that I don’t eat pad Thai all that often when I’m in Bangkok - not that I don’t like it, but I like so many other dishes, so I don’t get around to eating it all that often. But Ying told me we needed to check out, Pad Thai Soi Pradu (ผัดไทยซอยวัดประดู่), a Pad Thai restaurant in the Charoen Krung area of Bangkok. It was a bit of a challenging place to get to, and once we got there we found out they had already sold out of the main fresh shrimp Pad Thai. So I settled for the Pad Thai with dry shrimp. It turned out to be one of the best Pad Thai in Bangkok that I’ve had in a long time - maybe ever? Anyway, the Pad Thai was exceptionally good, partly because of how it was stir fried to the point of it having an extraordinary smoky flavor.
Day 14 was our final full day on this trip to Bangkok, and both meals were the highlight of the day for me!

I love how you can tell how good the food is from Mark's reaction. If he tilts his head to the side and smiles you know is REALLY good. If he just nods, it was just good.

Mark I'm late to the game here. But when I was 7-8 yo my mom took me there and I still remember how good the food is. Now 51 years later living in another country, I can't believe it's still there. They make the best Khao Mok Gai. Thanks for sharing.

I feel the need to apologize. a few weeks ago I wrote something along the lines of I didn't like your delicious face because it seemed ingenuine. I was wrong. 100% wrong. I have been watching your videos constantly for the past few days. I have always found your comentary wonderful and calming and informative. now I see how genuine your face is when you are enjoying something. I can see the subtle differences in when something is really good and just okay.

About wandering around minor sois - yup, I really enjoy this as well. Quite easy to do these days, too, with an Android phone and Google Maps so you know which way to go, even though sometimes you do end up a blind alley. Once I walked all the way from Bobae Market to Siam Paragon through the neighborhoods. Right behind Bobae Market you'll find two or three alleys that come to a stop - right by railroad tracks! There's two or three restaurants set up right next to the tracks, even a juke box sitting by itself under a roof. And someone actually set up a picnic table in BETWEEN the tracks (seems to be some sort of marshalling yard, look it up on the map). The locals would cross the tracks anytime they wanted to. I did likewise (you just have to keep an eye out for the trains, which do come by now and then! And come to a stop right in your way!) and found myself in a maze of back-alleys among tall buildings on the other side. A little further was the sort of neighborhood you saw in the video - small houses behind walls, small alleyways, small provision stores here and there. The alleys are fairly quiet other than the occasional motorbike that comes through now and then. --Iskandar

Hi, Mark. I've been to almost every places in this video. At the church and Kudeejeen is an old Thai-Protuguese commutity. And I think the one who invent that cake is Marie De Guyomar back in 1700s.

Hi Mark. I came across your Vlog by accident - and I am so thankful that I stayed and watched a couple of your videos.
I like the way you make your videos - it is authentic, not scripted in a way that I can really see in your expressions and hear in your voice that you really love what you are doing. I guess that what makes your Vlog different from others.
One thing though - I'm not so keen in watching your videos with an empty stomach, only because it makes me more hungry. Haha! :)
I hope you make a Manila, Philippines Series of street foods. That'll be awesome!
Continue making good Vlogs - keep eating! :)
    Peace!
