1.78:1 Aspect Ratio Cheat Sheet (16:9)

Widescreen 1.78:1 aspect ratio cheat sheet with the correct resolutions for most standard video container sizes, including Standard HD 720p, Full HD 1080p, 4K UHD and all the way up to 8K.
The 1.78:1 aspect ratio, commonly known as 16:9 aspect ratio, is a widescreen aspect ratio with a width of 16 units and a height of 9 units. Dividing 16 by 9 results in a width to height ratio of 1.77 (generally rounded up to 1.78).
1.78:1 (or 16:9) is the most common aspect for televisions and computer monitors, and the international standard image format for UHD, HDTV, Full HD and SD digital television. It is the most popular choice for modern content, from UA-cam videos to HDTV.
Historically, engineers developed this aspect ratio because it fell nicely between the 4:3 aspect ratio of standard TVs and the 2:35 ratio of many feature films of the time, so an HDTV set could display both sizes of video without significant letterboxing. DVDs, Blu-ray, and 4K video all inherited this ratio, which is now the standard for most television production today.
To calculate this aspect ratio, divide the width of your source footage by 1.78. The resulting value will be the required height (for more accuracy, divide by 1.7777).
