    Last week I posted a picture on Instagram referring to your bump jigs and I'll double down on it here; I have no idea how others are able to create precise pieces without these tools. I use them for every project and they have decreased the amount of time I spend cutting 10 fold. If you don't have bump jigs, click the link and get them, then watch this video a few more times, I promise you will not regret it. Another great video Artie!!

    • @MasconLeather

      We did. And we bought a set. You’re right, they’re horrible. Paper thin. Cheap. Not accurate at all. Etc.

  • @jamiebiddix4302
    @jamiebiddix4302 10 місяців тому +1

    Except that thin cardboard would need to be replaced often. The cut edges become ragged or compressed at the edge. Especially the corners. May as well just make your cuts by marking your leather with your squares or jigs first. General mills makes a hell of a cereal box like Harley makes a hell of tshirt.

    1. How do you stop the square of the stamps from imprinting?
    2. You did drop the Shell stamp a 3rd time didn’t you? 😂🤣😎

    • @MasconLeather

    so you dont case your leather before stamping?im kind of confused about that.and what are the leather plers ith the teeth on them good for?

    • @MasconLeather
      @MasconLeather  2 роки тому

      Raw veg leather, i case for tooling. That process burnishes the leather as the metal stamps hammer in. For Dublin and such, there are too many fats and liquors in the tanning process so they won’t take casing. But you cd. Still press stamps into them. They just don’t “burnish” as cased leather would.
      Not sure what teeth in leather pliers you’re referring to

    Awesome use of jigs, very helpful, alot better than using the side of a ruler. For small templates, you should consider 3D printing, opens up so many possibilites, you could combine #10, 9, 6 into one step,

    When you make your wallets and credit card holders, what is thickness in ounces of the leather that you use? 2 or 3? 4 or 5? For example, the wallet in your above video around the 10:40 mark? What thickness of the leather is that? I've been into leather working for a while now, but want to branch into making wallets and bags. I need some direction. Your story video was inspiring to watch.

    • @MasconLeather
      @MasconLeather  3 роки тому

      Thanks for watching and for asking. Unfortunately, I’m a bad example in regards to thickness. My items are far thicker than normal. 5/6 oz always.

    the method is just meh, good for new crafters but you wont see anyone using this method after a year or two. the price and calling them "Bump Jigs" is what i find infuriating. i just dont think you want to call them what they are because there is literally no reason to give you 100$ for one of these when you can get a whole ass set of good quality positioning squares for a quarter of the price. this just seems predatory to new leatherworkers that dont know any better..

    Thank you so much for your videos. I have been blacksmithing for the last 12 years but as age creeps in I needed something to keep me inside to watch over the wife who has cancer. I hate that i had to stop watching on my tv ,get my lap top, get my headset just to hear you . But the whole time the clink and tap of rulers / tools was always loud and clear . Might want to try recording audio separate and then editing it in . So you can adjust tool / shop noise different than the main vocals .
