Picked up an E36 328i back in 2021 which seemed perfect; legit 328i, un-swapped manual, m-sport kit from factory, non-sunroof and in Boston Green. The pictures and seller seemed good, but the car that arrived was a mess. After a full inspection from a BMW specialist I was left with a task list that was 100+ items long (I feel your pain on discovering those issues). I felt a bit defeated at one point, but I chose to save it. Its been a long and pricey journey, but I'm getting it dialled in just right for me. Glad you kept the car in the end, I've been checking out your other videos and they're a good watch. A nice look at owning an E36. Cheers!

Hell yeah my guy, you go to Thompson much? I blew up my Miata engine but I’ve done a couple lock cities and many Masstuning days
Oh and I did have a FRS, both stock and modified for auto-x and for me personally the e36 had way more character, sounded miles better, and overall much better experience. I feel the e36 had way more of a presence among other true enthusiasts as well.

We have the same taste in cars I daily a black E36 because it’s comfortable and practical compared to my Miata. I was going to buy a GR 86 but they wanted way over sticker so I got my E36. I have a 6.2 v8 to swap in tho and I plan on putting my bmw 6 in my Miata 😏
That would be a sick build dude go for it. I’m sure you’d know by now but please do a full chasis check and have it treated if you think you’re keeping forever or putting tons of money into. Don’t want to swap and find some unseen rust in some weird ass spots
@@Ian-yt there's no rust I shopped for 2 years before I settled on this one. i would have been able to have pay off a gr86 after I paint it and put in Recaro cs but as much as I think that car is almost perfect I cant stand boxer engines... and this way I should be almost 2x the hp

Oil dip o ring is such an easy job to do. No need to go under the car.
I'm trying to solve the wiring to the steering wheel for the horn first haha, the wires were all cut from the clock spring and the connectors are all gone.
both are drivers cars, the m3 doesn't really have excess power it's just the top of what the 36 chassis could offer, if you drive a 318 you wish you had more.. keep this, its a very usable modern classic, yes the miata is pure fun on bends, but if i were to choose only one it would be this. its also a lot more manly.
this one is in beautiful condition, too, there won't be any more of these going into the future. i'd daily the GR86 and keep this pristine for the weekends

Sell the Miata and keep the m3. Trust me. Plus you will probably get more for the Miata those are more rare. And the enjoyment of a m3 far proceeds the Mazda.
I’ve owned a total of 3 m3’s and own 2 currently. Rode in a Miata I will never compare the 2 again. Apples to oranges.. bmw>mazda

Ahhh I’m not sure I agree. I have dozens of track days in Miata’s and I guess I just got sucked into that feel. The bmw can’t compete with that feeling. I do drive much higher power cars 500-700+hp and I’d still take the Miata for everyday drives each time. Only thing I can really say confidently is that the Porsche caymans 981 and 982 718s really give me that next step. The m3 gets a little muddied in the driving experience for me in the grand scheme of things. Still a great and special analog experience

How was your camera set up for the driving portions? Tripod on its side? and what lens. Vid did hit a spot tho coming from a 21yo formermiata owner and e36 enthusiast (3 so far).
I just put my camera on the back above the seats haha it shakes a ton but works. Love the rides thanks for sharing your thoughts! Camera recommendation is a Sony a6400 with a tamron 17-70, it’s a budget friendly mirrorless camera so high quality
Are you planing on driving it in the winter? idk if they salt the roads where you live
Yes as needed. Will get the undercarriage washed regularly as the salt turns up. Maybe drive twice to three times a week at most.
