Here's a fun one that you'd usually see in your Twitch streams but might as well give it a go here - since you alluded to Zunesha in this way in your Zou review here, what are your top 5 pieces of One Piece imagery throughout the whole series? Could be spreads, locations, panels, character designs, whatever! #AJPiece
This isn’t a spoiler. We know exactly what happened to Kuzan. It’s mentioned in the second panel on the 4th or 5th page of chapter 793. The gorosei mention to Akainu that Kuzan allied himself with Blackbeard. #AJPIECE
I think Oda expected Kid to be more important too. He's commented in the past that when he made the 11 supernovas, he figured Kid would probably be very important and that Law ended up being much more important than he expected
How does this work from a writers standpoint? Oda created the world and characters and all their story arcs, so how does the author himself not fulfill his own expectations of his own creation? If he wrote every chapter as he went along then sure he wouldn’t know what the future had in store but considering that’s not the case with One Piece, I don’t get how your own characters can get lost in your narrative?
@@Godskilla91 I think Oda's writing style is what I call the road trip model - he knows a few major story beats he needs to hit, but how exactly he gets to those beats hasn't been planned in advance. The 9 supernova characters in particular were designed within a few hours just because Oda thought the Sabaody arc was too boring. I do think we've reached a point where Oda pretty much has a roadmap for every future arc - he said recently that he took some time to organise his notes and figure out what needs to happen from here on
@@Godskilla91Plans change. If you've ever written a story, then you'll know that you might have one idea of how you want things to go but new ideas can pop into your mind and change your initial plans as you're writing.
@@Godskilla91 Others have already given some helpful answers but I think it also speaks to the type of writer Oda is. George R. R. Martin, the author of A Song of Ice and Fire (Game of Thrones) differentiates between two types of writers; architects and gardeners. While the former will work with fairly fixed, somewhat rigid, outlines for their story and follow it to the best of their ability the latter might have a core narrative in mind but around it, they set up an enormous amount of elements that may or may not "blossom" into importance. Just like Martin, Oda seems to fall into this gardening style of writing which seems reasonable, considering how long-term manga production is and how advantageous the more dynamic approach is for that purpose.

I don't dislike post time skip or anything. But the raizo is safe moment is one of the first moments in a long long time that made me as impressed with the series as I was in my youth during pre time skip.
@@contemptman3646 it's the fact that it's not just inu and neko. Their ENTIRE civilisation was in on it and not one person snitched. There ancient city was leveled there people tortured repeatedly but not one of them even considered for a moment rating out their friend. An utterly insane level of loyalty, the second I heard that I knew the minks where some of the realest ones out there.
Really glad to see that you don't feel the timeskip was a downgrade. I personally think it is a little worse in terms of execution of ideas and plotilnes, but at the same time it's much more ambitious, so it kinda evens out. I think the sentiment that TS is much worse comes mostly from the weekly grind. Dressrosa lasted like 2.5 years, it was a slog reading weekly, people were losing patiance, overanalyzing every chapter and nitpicking all the potential plotholes, characters acting stupid etc. - things they never had time to do when binge reading pre-skip. Now when new fans binge it, they have more fun, because all the nitpicky stuff can be glossed over or not even be noticed in the first place. Focus can be put into enjoying the fun and interesting stuff, which post-skip is still full of around every corner. The weekly grind also creates a lot of expectations in the fandom. When you wait for something for 5 years, over that timespan the expectations and hype can snowball out of control into unrealistic levels, and then when those expectations are not met, people are disappointed. Fans take every little thing and then begin to theorize and fantasize, hyping themselves into the straosphere and then falling hard when reality is just another 8/10 level resolution and feeling it's bad because it's not highest peak of all fiction.
#AJPiece I agree with you on Zoro being angry with sanji for not leaving a proper explanation, because the way Zoro jumped to conclusions of Sanji's troubles being less relevant than their situation is so not him , cuz when has Zoro done that ?. 1:00:00 I think without directional information in 2d (flat) space all you need is three points to triangulate (thus the word) a specific location, but in 3d space with height/depth (for example above the world in a sky island or beneath the world in ocean trenches or underground) you need an extra point to locate it (with only 3 points you will get 2 valid answers instead). Of course all these was assuming they were actual geographic points on a map, but given that the world of One Piece is wild I think it may not be that simple. not that locating an point in the New World is easy in the first place, especially since the One Piece world has no completed world maps yet.
Side note: On chapter 814? when they are going to see Nekomamushi for the first time, there's a song Brook sings about him. That song was composed by the voice actor, years before, just because, as a lullaby. Oda liked it, and that's why Nekomamushi is called Nekomamushi. If you look up "nekomamushi original song" in youtube, you will get a result with the title in Japanese, from the channel @chochosans, uploaded on April 19 2011. That's years before Zou was written
1:00:15 You only need 3 if all locations are close enough that you can go to all 3 of them. By going from A to B, from B to C and from C to A, you'll eventually will happen across the island, even if you have no idea where D is. But if the are too far away a) you can never be sure you are following the line properly, b) you can bump into several islands that happen to be over one of the lines, c) you might not be physically able to travel the whole length of each line
Thing is if those islands weren't charted yet, that would mean they exist in no map, you just can't guess the fourth one given how devastating the New World can be.
@@Lackadais1cal The Lode poneglyphs give you a chart pointing to a specific location, according to Nami. So whatever it is they point at, it's charted. And even if it wasn't, you only need the spot they bring to the map to draw the X. But you need to properly set that chart on a map to know the exact location
so glad you brought up the few people who told you post-timeskip op was weaker... i remember seeing those few comments and i was so incredulous bc HOW?? i just don't get anyone who says that and i'm so happy to see that you're against the idea too. this was another awesome commentary, zou is such a lore-ful arc, i knew you'd love it!
You must’ve missed it or something but we know what happened to Kuzan. in chapter 793 the Gorosei mention to Akainu that Kuzan is allied with Blackbeard. It’s the fourth or 5th page.
I can’t wait for you to get to the end of wano. Wano is very good. It does have its flaws but I think recency bias amplifies them to a lot of people. But I think the opposite is also true. Some people overrate it because it’s new. But regardless it’s dope. Some of the best stuff in the series is in that arc and in the post wano stuff
#AJPiece One aspect that I think is massively disregarded is how the Strawhats as a whole are written in Post Time Skip Many say they're given less character moments but I don't think that's what Oda's objective is to begin with. Pre Timeskip established each of them, who they are, their struggles, how Luffy affected them and in the end how he liberates them to pursue their dreams. Their tragedies and character directions have been dealt with for the most part and they're ready to vibe, like Robin. That also means that they feel somehow redevable to him for that freedom. And then strikes the tragedy that is Ace's death and how none of them were able to be there for Luffy, so they did the best they could by growing with and for him. Usopp adresses this the best in Post War '' I always thought Luffy would become Pirate King on his own. But that's not true. There are enemies out there he can't possibly defeat. Even Luffy can lose. He's been pushing himself really hard! But deep inside he's screaming! That's why he needs me to help him! Heracles, Help me grow stronger!" And they all singlehandedly share that feeling which is shown by their promise to meet up in 2 years. And what that means for their treatment in Post Timeskip is that they'll focus on rewarding Luffy for their freedom with an everlasting sense of trust. It's no coincidence that in not even 3 Arcs PostTS we have more Strawhats claiming Luffy will become the King of Pirates than in PreTS when it started with Zoro facing Kuma. Like Sanji in Zou, Chopper in Punk Hazard, or Brook in Sabaody and Punk Hazard and so on. And it fits the Journey to defeat an Emperor started with the alliance, the crew giving their utmost belief to Luffy.
@@michaelyu6250 pretty much, not by far since Marineford and W7 are just as good if not better in some aspects. I just really like one certain character
Don't worry about how long it took I appreciate it all the same whenever it comes out and Zou is such a great short arc learning about another new species with Carrot newest best girl with Garfield and Doggo Duke. Also the Raizo safe moment is one of the best moments in the whole series to me and Jack the Jobber here too plus Sanji getting taken away for reasons.
The length comment is an intriguing to me, and possibly me reading into more than you intended. As there are many influences on length beyond just the author, that makes me feel like there are definitely cases where things go on longer than I think they should. But I do also agree, length shouldn't generally be the first thing you complain about, when evaluating the worth a series
This is reading into it more than I intended lol. Of course if the story goes on longer than Oda wants it to for reasons out of his control then that's not good. That's why I was sure to emphasize Oda's creative control and Oda's desire.
Hey Aleczandxr, not sure if you already talked about this, but what is your plan for the arc after Wano? Will you wait until it's over (shouldn't be too long) or are you going to catch up and then do weekly videos?
I really disliked how Nami and Robin's designs changed post-timeskip and how heavy handed the fanservice became. Then I saw Nami's Zou dress and saw the light. Oda-seinsei keep doing what you're doing.
#AJPiece I know you love One Piece, but my question is this - what do you think could raise it that little bit higher, that extra level, if anything at all can?
I have never seen one piece. I have considered it however the cover didn’t appeal to me and kept putting it off. I know it’s not a good measure to judge by However it’s what humans do even when they say they don’t. I like your content so if you think it’s good I’ll give it a look
What do you think about the claim that Oda cannot write female characters? To expand it, what do you think about that claim levelled at Kishimoto, Furudate, Kubo and Togashi?
Oda is _clearly_ better at writing female characters than Kishimoto at least. There are plenty of women in One Piece who are fully realised characters and who aren't solely defined by their relationship to male characters. I'd say that there are certainly elements to One Piece that detracts from its appeal to women like the character designs, fanservice or how there are _multiple_ characters who always try to creep on women but the actualy female characters are written very well for the medium.
@@LoeffelluxYeah but characters creeping on women isn’t an Oda exclusive and fan service is in every shonen manga because of simple economics. They’re marketing to teenage boys and that sells.
Idk how the manga handled it but in the anime they scream that Raizo isn't there so many times I was 100% sure he was. So when the "big reveal" came I just rolled my eyes. It's a shame because it seems to be a very impactful moment for most. I was actually right for once but at what cost?!

Love the love for Zou. Unappreciated arc, thanks for giving it the love.
HOLY SMOKES you haven’t been showing up in my recommended lately. I’m so excited to hear your Zou thoughts. The Raizo through line is so good
I can’t wait for you to get to the end of wano. Wano is very good. It does have its flaws but I think recency bias amplifies them to a lot of people. But I think the opposite is also true. Some people overrate it because it’s new. But regardless it’s dope. Some of the best stuff in the series is in that arc and in the post wano stuff
#AJPiece
One aspect that I think is massively disregarded is how the Strawhats as a whole are written in Post Time Skip
Many say they're given less character moments but I don't think that's what Oda's objective is to begin with.
Usopp adresses this the best in Post War
'' I always thought Luffy would become Pirate King on his own. But that's not true. There are enemies out there he can't possibly defeat. Even Luffy can lose. He's been pushing himself really hard! But deep inside he's screaming! That's why he needs me to help him! Heracles, Help me grow stronger!"
And they all singlehandedly share that feeling which is shown by their promise to meet up in 2 years.
Next up is my favorite Arc, might have to subscribe to your patreon now since I cant wait for your review
WCI is your favourite in the series? Awesome take
@@michaelyu6250 pretty much, not by far since Marineford and W7 are just as good if not better in some aspects.
I just really like one certain character
@@XraynPR Katakuri
@@jimmyichigo7410 yeah
Don't worry about how long it took I appreciate it all the same whenever it comes out and Zou is such a great short arc learning about another new species with Carrot newest best girl with Garfield and Doggo Duke. Also the Raizo safe moment is one of the best moments in the whole series to me and Jack the Jobber here too plus Sanji getting taken away for reasons.
Vivi will always be a Straw Hat! Nakama for life!
I cant actually believe there's going to only a few more of these videos before you catch up AJ, insane
Zou is underrated by many but so essential. Glad you spent 1.5 hours on it.
Hell yeah been waiting for this one man awesome
I've been missing these videos so much I almost subscribed to the Patreon, but just in time you saved my money🤔
Hey Aleczandxr, not sure if you already talked about this, but what is your plan for the arc after Wano? Will you wait until it's over (shouldn't be too long) or are you going to catch up and then do weekly videos?
For these videos? I plan to wait until the arc is finished and then release a video. It may be done by the time I catch up.
Am I dumb for never doing the Killua connection?! Thanks for that!
Hard carrying my Friday afternoon!

That Chika shirt looks great!
thanks!
#AJPiece Elephants are rad, do you concur?
1:19:57 so good you had to say it twice lol
you could say that zou was straight out of xenoblade chronicles eh AJ lol
TRUE
#AJPiece Whenever you get to Wano if you read it I recommend watching 1084 before the final chapter
Afaik, Zunesha is pronounced (zoo-knee-sha) just in case you hadn't been told that yet :)
I really disliked how Nami and Robin's designs changed post-timeskip and how heavy handed the fanservice became. Then I saw Nami's Zou dress and saw the light. Oda-seinsei keep doing what you're doing.
Eh, I don't mind. There's thousands of ecchi anime that are more scandalous. I think people overly bash it.
#AJPiece I know you love One Piece, but my question is this - what do you think could raise it that little bit higher, that extra level, if anything at all can?
I feel like that may have already happened for him.. if you know you know, the streams....👀
Vivi I miss her!
I LOVE ONE PIECE
I’m waiting for the relevance of Weevil and not just Stussy…
LET’S GOOOOOO
This series is great 🎉🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤❤
#AJPiece How do you feel about how Oda focuses on the straw hats now compared to pre-timeskip?
RYUNOSUKE IS LIFE!!!
#AJPiece What would you say is the most effective "in-between" One Piece arc?
I have never seen one piece. I have considered it however the cover didn’t appeal to me and kept putting it off. I know it’s not a good measure to judge by However it’s what humans do even when they say they don’t. I like your content so if you think it’s good I’ll give it a look
What part that you've been spoiled this far?
Lore Piece is Peak Piece.
❤❤❤
AHHHH LETS GOOOOO I LOVE ZOU!
4/5 of them write fantastic female characters (I haven't read Bleach yet).
He's getting closer and closer to Egghead Arc.
!!! SPOILER !!!
KUMA😭😭😭
Idk how the manga handled it but in the anime they scream that Raizo isn't there so many times I was 100% sure he was. So when the "big reveal" came I just rolled my eyes. It's a shame because it seems to be a very impactful moment for most. I was actually right for once but at what cost?!
