#ajpiece I wholly agree with your take on Kaido and would like to add one more thing - i believe the reason why kaido inflicted the same pain of yearning for the Wano citizens is the same reason he cant fully express his desire for a shonen battle like other characters - that is to say, Kaido is to aware of his shortcomings, the reasons of why and how he undercuts himself, and he cant forgvie himself for acting that way - for being true to himself, for being a fraud. That lack of acceptance for yourself is one the primary reasons people enact their own trauma on others. That also why i think he drinks so much, he runs away from himself, he doesnt allow himself to be who he is - he's identity has been shaped around yearning to achieve something he could never achieve, unless he would stop yearning for that.
It took me 6 days to listen to the whole video, but it was worth it. Thanks again for your hard work, looking forward for your cooking on the conclusion of Wano
The panel where Sanji screams for Robin's help looks similar to Robin's "I want to live" to me, and it feels intentional for all the reasons you mentioned
i feel like you experience one piece differently from us because of the pacing u read it at. Most of us had a lot of these conclusions years before Wano came out because we overanalyzed the series dozens of times and played a lot of prediction games but trough you we kinda see how the story organically gives the same experience to readers who can read without waiting. I especially see that with Egghead lately where you are kinda grasping the actual scope and complexity of the story
dude exactly, I experienced onigashima through weekly reading but just this week I rewatched the Onigashima Paced Edited Version with my brother and damn, it's so peak T-T
#ajpiece The shot of Kaido on the rooftop, facing the scabbards, sillouhetted by the moon, is one of the most vivid reading expriences ive had in my life. As someone who started reading in Punk Hazard, seeing all those years of build up culminate in this beautiful homage of everything japanese that Oda has concocted in Wano. I felt like i could hear those images, the sounds of 20 years of agony and anticipation (both in-world and IRL) for the day the morning will come to the Land of the Rising Sun Thank you very much AJ for the chance to take part in this incredible journey Also, i heard jozu won no. 1 in alll top 100 streams. Congrats
You’re the first person I’ve heard say that the “He Laughed” panel is the best panel in the series. Thank you. You’re so narratively in-tune with the series, that you completely understood what that meant, and how it made us feel. I remember getting chills reading that panel, and I still do when I think about it. It’s an indescribable feeling: happiness, sadness, grief, excitement. No wonder Bink’s Saké is the theme of the series
HELL YES. I love these and I am genuinely so excited to listen to this on my drives. I binged all your reviews this past month and seeing your ideas develop has been so much fun, can’t wait to hear more from you :)
I'll be honest, I know usopp was telling nami to just lie, but I don't think he would have in that situation, I think there's 0% chance he would have lied there. He may lie a lot, but even in Alabasta, fighting Mrs.Merry Christmas, he made a stand when she laughed at luffys dream, even though they were just words. Even when he was gonna leave the crew, I'm sure he said "I know you'll be king, but I don't need to go that far" I don't think usopp is willing to lie about his friends dreams, but I think he would be OK with a friend doing it in a life or death situation
I don't think Nami and Usopp's point of view differ that much, Usopp wanted Nami to lie to Ulti, but if he was in her situation he would never deny that Luffy would become the PK. In fact, he is the first straw hat to state to an enemy that Luffy is the one who will become PK. He simply wanted Nami to live. It's a big moment for Nami though, always showcasing her immense will.
You are the only youtuber for which i am watching this long of a video. Best analysis of anime/manga on the website. Ive been subscribed a long time and it is wonderful to hear you talk about one piece, and it is awesome how far youve made it in the series. Thanks!
I was literally thinking about this video for days now! I wanted to wait until this moment to become a patreon to get access to the last two parts asap
#AJPiece People give a lot of flack to Wano Acts 1 & 2 for being "too slow" but I personally love this fact. As someone who first caught up at the end of Wano, on an initial readthrough I LOVED how it seemed like, for a brief, 50 chapter-ish section of the story, Oda seemed like he finally stopped with the constant frenetic rushing type pace that we had been running on arguably since Punk Hazard, finally slowed down, and just let us take in the atmosphere and aesthetic and contained plot of one singular island. Really bringing back that sense of adventure and travel and just.. enjoying the feeling of soaking in a new place on a level that, in my opinion, we hadn't really gotten since Skypiea. I especially appreciate this now, considering it seems like with how everything post Wano Acts 1&2 has transpired, and seems like it will transpire from here on, that this section of the story was probably the last truly "slow" section of the story that we'll maybe ever get. And I like that.
3:05:30 That moment is also interesting as in the anime after Blackbeard laughs at it saying he could give a hand There's a few seconds added reaction from him (If you intend to watch that episode later you can ignore this comment😅) But there after Ace mentions he's doing it for a promise he made, Blackbeard stopped smiling and responded basically like ''huh? You're doing this for that kind of stuff? Ridiculous'' and then leaves I'm still wondering to how much degree that's relevant to his character 🤔
Wonderful video 🤩 The way the events leading up to Luffy and Zoro reaching the roof to challenge Kaido all flow together so well is incredible. Beginning with the Akazaya attacking Kaido to start the raid in full, Marco talking about not being bound by Whitebeard's legacy, and the Akazaya still being bound by Oden's legacy, burying their individuality for the battle. You have Luffy about to put a country on his back for the first time and fully accept/understand that responsibility, and Zoro showing he cares about people beyond the rest of the crew to such a strong degree, when he sees Kiku's arm. As well as Marco understanding the situation and helping him get to the roof. The stuff with Zoro and Chopper being paired with the Ice Oni spreading/him getting the cure is a great decision too. I've always thought it was really neat how the Ice Oni turning people into demonic twisted forms, while causing them to lose their personality, was strongly thematically linked to Kiku putting on her demon mask to "become" the samurai that others are expecting her to be, but causes her to lose herself. While Yamato, Kiku's foil, who also has a thematic link to the Ice Oni, is doing the opposite of Marco helping Zoro reach the roof sooner. Yamato is forcing Luffy to be late to the roof/meet with the Akazaya, due to "becoming" Oden, an identity conflict to contrast Kiku's of locking away her gentle heart while wearing her mask.
#ajpiece, I think part of what makes Kaido so interesting for me is how similar he is to toguro from Yu Yu hakusho, there are very few villains like them who get changed so much by the context of knowing what they really want
If you think that Wano has been key to continue Sanji's WCI development then you are in for a treat! Oda really does justice to his character arc during Onigashima, and Sanji calling for Robin to help him is nothing short of amazing, fulfilling both of them and how they fit in the crew.
Nice 4 hours for 52 chapters I'm hyped! Your reviews are always so in depth and it's what draws me in to you channel. I'm sure you caught up to the story at this point but I was wondering what you would do going forward. Are you going to stick to the ark long videos or chapters?
the anime version of the scene of Ace explaining Luffy's dream and then the scene of Yamato's hands in chains as the vivre card slowly burns to ashes in front of his eyes are both so beautifully animated and coloured and drawn in the anime its captivating
Like i said around the time you were in orange town. Dont take the Communitys opinion to heart when it comes to one piece arcs. At that time i was refering to the wano arc. Imo the community competely lives in their own bubble. Anyone i talk about who is outside of the bubble throughoutly enjoys the arc for what it is without injecting their own agendas and theories into it.
And then Aj laughed was a panel that hit me like crazy also man these videos coming to an end sucks but knowing you'll still talk about OP from time to time is great hopefully plus Oden flashback is so top tier and the entirety of Egghead will blow you away so much more than Wano.
One thing I always find fun about Law's plan for Onigashima: He's finally figured out that he can't make Luffy follow a plan, so he has to make a plan that works with how Luffy behaves.
#AJpiece amazing video. ive been watching every single thing u publish hxh and one piece as one, but this was the peak. i was at episode 300~ in one piece and thought of it as just a meaningless fun not seeing how good it is. than i found your water seven video which i just finished and realize how much i missed about it. ever since ive been following these videos, and it was amazing, thank you so much. last thing, kaido is said to be the world strongest creature, which could have been true, but due to being mentaly weak he will never be able to beat characters such as shanks, luffy, blackbeard and akainu, due to each of their differing motivations.
I've been watching your One Piece videos and loving them very much! I wanted to write to you but it's not easy lol, so I'm just going to offtop here and hope you'll read it. I've checked your top fiction list and there is one show missing from there that I feel has potential to become one of your favourites. It's called "Mr. Robot". It's an extremely creative and well-written show with a slightly surreal vibe (though it's pretty grounded all in all, so do not worry if surrealism is not your cup of tea). You can expect creative directing, expertly crafted psychology of the main character, twists that just hit different than any other show. The most important thing to do when you watch this show - trust it. Sometimes it may seem like it's meandering or does not know what it wants to do. But it does know. It knows exactly what it does and where it goes and while the journey may sometimes be questionable, once the payoffs come, it all comes together into certified peak fiction kino. Try it!
To me the laugh at the end is deeply teleological, at the end they saw something good, they know that at the end even after all the hardship, suffering and pain there's a good ending.
#AJPiece I think the bit with Marco and Big Mom is also about parenthood and family. Big Mom and Whitebeard are similar in modeling their crews as a family to fullfill a wish that comes from a lack in their lives, yet their ideas of being a parent are fundamentally different. We see it in how Whitebeard is forgiving and self-sacrificing, while Big Mom is vindictive when her children fail her and negligent in protecting them, as Katakuri's backstory shows. Similarly, she can't understand that Whitebeard would want his children to make their own choices and value judgements in life, not bound by his decisions, but sees Marco going against Whitebeard's former alliances as "dead men can't give orders". Big Mom's will to control and use her children blinds her to what Oda regards as being a good parent: Ensuring your child has the strength to be free and make their own choices. The same thing is depicted in how Sanji's mother gave her own well-being to protect Sanji's free will and emotions from Judge's attempts to weaponize his children or even in how a group of Samurai treat Yamato compared to Kaido in a later scene.
22:42 I don't have any source unfortunately, but I remember reading that Oda explicitly said that the One Piece is NOT the journey/friends we made along the way!
1:57:21 Im pretty sure the Big Mom Pirates are trying to reach Wano not Onigashima. You said this about 10 - 20 minutes earlier as well but i don't remember the time. They have to first enter the country of Wano which Onigashima is a part of. Pretty much a nitpick but i just want it to be clear lol
It was an Instagram ad! Unfortunately I don’t remember the exact website, it just showed up on my feed and I got it, but comb Instagram once in a while and you might be in luck!
Hey! Just wondering if you're working on a FF VII Rebirth video? Your essays for Remake and Intermission are world class and I've been patiently waiting for the next one but haven't seen anything come up. I know those long videos take some time so just an assurance that it's coming is enough for me. Thank you.
I’ve been giving consistent running updates through Discord, Twitter and my streams on my progress on my Rebirth video every week. It’s in progress and has been since April, and it’ll be the longest video on my channel by far so the road ahead is very long. But much progress has been made and I’m working on it almost every day. For more updates I’d recommend following me on Twitter, joining the Discord and/or following the streams!
#AJPiece : The revelations about Blackbeard not sleeping are quite staggering and do tend to confirm the difference between him and Luffy. Blackbeard believes in dreams, Luffy belives in dreaming.
[Question] AJ, could you tell me what was the song you played in the Roger-Oden flashback besides "memories"? I rarely on twitch, but I watched and enjoyed the "he laughed" stream so much, and I hope I can watch it again in youtube 😢
I usually listen to these while cleaning but 4 hours ? am i gonna clean my house and the neighbors' ? Well can't complain since I'll enjoy every minute of this but not tonight unfortunately
I really like Yamato. I particularly love the design. But my view of the character is almost stained in some way by how certain fans tend to be so ... Petty in regards to her.
I think it's pretty clear after Wano and Luffy officially becoming an emperor that the whole "5th yonko" thing was weak and unnecessary. Watching him become a yonko is much more impactful of you don't think "well he already was one"
#ajpiece I mildly disagree with one point about Yamato - You said something to the effect that Yamato doesn't carry a crazy dream (hence causing some story confliction in how Yamato and Momo carry Oden's will). Yamato does carry a crazy dream - to be liberated from his father, Kaido, and sail the seas free and unbounded. Yamato, since being a child, was effectively imprisoned and enslaved to become Kaido's legacy. It wasn't until Luffy actually broke Yamato's chains, with Yamato waiting 20 years since the day Oden died, that he finally had a taste of the freedom he dreamed of. The dream to be liberated from the strongest beast alive, Kaido, was a crazy dream. Who but a certain someone could ever hope to defeat Kaido and liberal all enslaved by this monster?
I’m a little confused because I believe I said that as well? I definitely said this exact thing to some effect. If it wasn’t in this video then maybe the previous one, but this isn’t exactly a disagreement at all and I’ve explained in the past about how Yamato’s specific emotional context makes travelling the seas a very Strawhat-esque (improbable) dream. I don’t think it’s a *crazy* dream, but yeah it is a dream. The only real disagreement is in the word crazy I thinkz
Can we make #AJBleach a thing in the future?? Also, please forgive me for not touching on all of the greatness of Oden in my comment. There’s way too much to unpack in one single comment. #AJPiece Oden is my favorite flashback character in a series full of amazing flashback characters. The way he was written was majorly indicative of all the primary themes of Wano - oppression, responsibility, justice, and perhaps most importantly, perception. Oda handled his character interestingly in the dichotomy between who we thought he was, and who he actually turned out to be. For nearly all of the post time skip era, we were regaled with tales of Oden’s greatness - his immense power, his strength of character, his selflessness and kindness. And yet when we finally see him, it’s clear that Kinemon’s stories of Oden didn’t necessarily paint a full picture. Oden’s story is so interesting because unlike other flashback characters, we see his rise to prominence. Oda usually uses flashbacks to highlight an important quality in a character and subsequently demonstrate their greatness/kindness/whateverness. However, Oden was always characterized by what he lacked - he was supposed to regal and formal, and yet he was a brute who was going to pleasure houses and fighting bandits at like 9 years old. He was meant to be the next Shogun of Wano, a closed nation, yet his deepest desire was simply to leave those responsibilities behind and be free. Despite these qualities being positively portrayed in other characters, Oden is never really viewed in a positive light comparatively - he simply isn’t who he needs to be. Oden was “made great” as he said, but in his eyes he never really changed, only people’s perception of him did. From the weirdo Prince, to a heroic figure, then right back down to loser - Oden was nearly always characterized by the qualities he *lacked* ,rather than by the amazing characteristics he already possessed. And when he met his end, it was because he was unable to put any trust in his comrades and instead chose to bear the weight of Wano singlehandedly. Kaido even said it himself, if Oden had gathered his forces immediately, he probably would have won. It’s a massive slap in the face, and not only that, it highlights another thing which Oden lacked - the ability to truly trust his vassals. He believed all the culpability fell on him, while his attempt to save Wano alone were beautiful, admirable, and honorable to a fault - it’s twinged with major hints of “if only Oden hadn’t… then we could have won.” Which brings us to Luffy, someone who demonstrates massive parallels to Oden, but with one major difference - Luffy *can* trust in his crew, in fact he believes in every Straw Hat to a fault. Through the parallels between Oden and Luffy, Oda underlines probably the most important theme in all of One Piece - no matter how great and powerful one man is, that strength alone will not be enough to carry him to his goals; camaraderie and found family are the true path to self fulfillment in this world. Much love AJ! Always a pleasure.
Assuming a character will appear again later simply because their character arc was set up for more is not a good idea in Wano. It only works so far. Some characters can still be salvaged in the future of the manga, and some of them cannot.
Wano arc has a lot of ups and down. I can respect AJ thoughts on this arc, being his favorite and being top 1 arc Wano just had so many flaws. Big Mom getting amnesia, the fake deaths like Kinemon surviving or Kiku. It would have been fine if Kinemon survive BUT for Kiku, doesn't make sense For Big Mom getting amnesia, i really don't like that. Amnesia plot is been used so many times in any media. I wish Oda has a different plot for Big Mom because she come here in Wano arc, for Luffy. To get revenge BUT she just lost her memories I like Wano arc BUT there's just a lot of flaws. Although, there is a lot of hype and peak moments, emotional moments
I personally don't think that Big Mom had amnesia in the common sense of this word here - and I believe we will explore what really happened later (likely in Elbaf). From a pure storytelling perspective the entire event feels as if it is only there to show the "amnesia" state and connect Linlin with Chopper as set-up. Oda could have easily done a way less complicated Udon prison arc if he didn't involve Big Mom at all.
Wano definitely has flaws, but to me they are nothing in comparison to the peaks of the arc. The highpoints greatly outnumber the low points for it to have much of an effect on the arc as a whole.

Try it!
I’ve seen Mr. Robot, but thank you! If you check out the Top Protagonists list you’ll see that Elliot is there, actually!
To me the laugh at the end is deeply teleological, at the end they saw something good, they know that at the end even after all the hardship, suffering and pain there's a good ending.
4 hours good lord. Been there in stream since Skypeia, but my goodness.
FOUR!? HOURS!?!?!? (complimentary)
The same thing is depicted in how Sanji's mother gave her own well-being to protect Sanji's free will and emotions from Judge's attempts to weaponize his children or even in how a group of Samurai treat Yamato compared to Kaido in a later scene.
i love the metal pipe sound of his crown when orochi gets decapitated by kaido. sasuga toei
22:42 I don't have any source unfortunately, but I remember reading that Oda explicitly said that the One Piece is NOT the journey/friends we made along the way!
I never said it was.
I never noticed the parallel between how Oden took down the Mountain God and how Kaido took down Oden until now.
#ajpiece just wanted to mention the woman who could change her appearance had the same fruit bon clay does. Neat reference.
4 hours? This is gonna be a ride
I was like “new heat”
Then I said “ghat damn!” 😬😬

Im pretty sure the Big Mom Pirates are trying to reach Wano not Onigashima.
You said this about 10 - 20 minutes earlier as well but i don't remember the time.
They have to first enter the country of Wano which Onigashima is a part of.
Pretty much a nitpick but i just want it to be clear lol
So I tried this mint flavored chocolate wafer. It's quite good really..
Great video as always, i've been a fan for a long time!! I also just have to ask where can i buy that gomu gomu no mi jumper?? it's incredible!!
It was an Instagram ad! Unfortunately I don’t remember the exact website, it just showed up on my feed and I got it, but comb Instagram once in a while and you might be in luck!
kaido my goat
4 hours?!! I am seated !
yamato joins the crew... yeeahhh...
@@Aleczandxr Awesome, thank you so much! I'm really looking forward to it!
#AJPiece : The revelations about Blackbeard not sleeping are quite staggering and do tend to confirm the difference between him and Luffy. Blackbeard believes in dreams, Luffy belives in dreaming.
Can still hardly believe that you’re caught up
what a gift
I LOVE ONE PIECE !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Take a shot every time he says “beautiful”
Drunk in half an hour, that’s Wano baybeeeeee
55:47 uh huh😂😂😂
[Question] AJ, could you tell me what was the song you played in the Roger-Oden flashback besides "memories"? I rarely on twitch, but I watched and enjoyed the "he laughed" stream so much, and I hope I can watch it again in youtube 😢
hello, i wonder if you have read fire punch? that manga is so hype and im curious whats ur take on it
I usually listen to these while cleaning but 4 hours ? am i gonna clean my house and the neighbors' ? Well can't complain since I'll enjoy every minute of this but not tonight unfortunately
I really like Yamato. I particularly love the design. But my view of the character is almost stained in some way by how certain fans tend to be so ... Petty in regards to her.
LET’S GOOOOOOO
❤
Do a Ryoumen Sukuna video
Yeah....its been a while,though.
LETS GOOOO
I think it's pretty clear after Wano and Luffy officially becoming an emperor that the whole "5th yonko" thing was weak and unnecessary.
Watching him become a yonko is much more impactful of you don't think "well he already was one"
Act 3 > Act 1 > Act 2

Legendary figures die smiling
One piece king
Where does Egghead rank for you so far?
High!
The only real disagreement is in the word crazy I thinkz
luffy is the goat
Joyboy has returned
4 hours!!!!!
Hahaha 4 hours. About a week worth of content
Can we make #AJBleach a thing in the future??
Also, please forgive me for not touching on all of the greatness of Oden in my comment. There’s way too much to unpack in one single comment.
#AJPiece
Oden is my favorite flashback character in a series full of amazing flashback characters. He believed all the culpability fell on him, while his attempt to save Wano alone were beautiful, admirable, and honorable to a fault - it’s twinged with major hints of “if only Oden hadn’t… then we could have won.”
Which brings us to Luffy, someone who demonstrates massive parallels to Oden, but with one major difference - Luffy *can* trust in his crew, in fact he believes in every Straw Hat to a fault.
Also damn, last AJPiece comment in this video cooooked. Bro used 100% of his power
Morj disliked this
Bro didn’t even finish the review😂😂😂😂😂😂
What?
UGHHHHHHGHH
Love the waffle house
Assuming a character will appear again later simply because their character arc was set up for more is not a good idea in Wano. It only works so far.
Some characters can still be salvaged in the future of the manga, and some of them cannot.
I’ve got no idea what this is in reference to, sorry.
Wano arc has a lot of ups and down. I can respect AJ thoughts on this arc, being his favorite and being top 1 arc
Wano just had so many flaws. Big Mom getting amnesia, the fake deaths like Kinemon surviving or Kiku. It would have been fine if Kinemon survive BUT for Kiku, doesn't make sense
For Big Mom getting amnesia, i really don't like that. Amnesia plot is been used so many times in any media. I wish Oda has a different plot for Big Mom because she come here in Wano arc, for Luffy. To get revenge BUT she just lost her memories
I like Wano arc BUT there's just a lot of flaws.
Funnily enough you frame this as a disagreement but it’s actually in line with my own thoughts on the arcs flaws lol
Wano definitely has flaws, but to me they are nothing in comparison to the peaks of the arc. The highpoints greatly outnumber the low points for it to have much of an effect on the arc as a whole.
