- I picked up another game with a pretty punishing early learning curve. I wanted to share what worked for me to get started successfully in DayZ. I hope this video helps you enjoy the game as well!

just started playing 2 days ago, nice refreshener. 12:05 i've found double clicking is a bit faster but it can sort rather wonky, but that can always be done later when you're somewhere safer :)

Use the guts and a knife to make a rope. Then use the bones to make a knife and a fishing hook. Use the knife to dig up a worm. Combine the worm with the hook to make bait, Then cut a long stick and combine it with the rope to make a fishing pole. Combine the bait and the fishing pole and than find yourself a body of water. Fish filets are some of the best most filling foods in the game. Use your best knife when cutting up fish and animals to get the most out of the food you harvest. Duller knives = less of the food remaining once you have cut up your harvest.

Holding right mouse click and backing up blocks zombie melee attacks. So Strike the zombie once or twice and them back up while blocking to refill your stamina. After the zombie does it's two hand heavy attack start your attacks again. repeat until it's dead. This will prevent your clothes getting ruined, you getting cuts, and taking health damage.
I was just going to post this, good advice for sure.
Is there a way to block while moving backwards slowly, i seen it somebody do this but i don't remember how. Pls help

This video helped so much, I never made it further than 30 minutes in. Would either die of starvation or get killed by zombies. Played all day and haven’t died yet 😂
I bought this game Friday night, and so far, the zombies are the hardest part. I've ran into a few assholes, but them zombies, fuuuuck.

@@uknavynige when you die dont dwell on what was lost... instead dwell on the experiences you had with that life, in turn gives new light on the next life to try a new experience... always remember you WILL die. only get attached to the memories. look forward dont be discouraged if you die after 30 hrs or 30 mins of 1 life.
Great Video, especially server choosing. Other pro tips: two rocks combine to make a stone knife. stone knife can prepare a chicken. use knife to gather dark bark. dark bark and short stick combine to make a firestarting handdrill. dark bark and sticks combine to make fireplace. both will be in same menu. You will probably need another stone knife by now so make more than one when you can. Gather long stick and sharpen with stone knife. Prepare chicken with stone knife. prepare makeshift handwrappings with stone knife so you do not get sick from blood from chicken or Z's when you eat. Combine stone knife and clothing to craft rags for that purpose. handdrill combined with fireplace to make fire. Put chicken or what ever you kill on the sharp stick and cook over fire. You will learn so much more to survive , when you at least stop dying of starvation, in this game. Do NOT eat the dead People or Z's.
After watching your guide, I think the possibility of buying on Steam and playing it is more probable than before. I like how you broke it down from the very beginning vs all these ongoing story lines many other content creators have (which is of course good for established players). I am just looking to get my foot in the door. This was perfect for helping me do so!

The learning curve is steep, but its worth it, if you are one of the lucky ones who gets sucked in.

Great starter guide. There's so much information you've got to learn and he's done an excellent job at trying to convey it quickly. My personal tip: Prepare to die A LOT at the start and don't be too tied to gear ("gear fear").

Think of it like "borrowing" gear. You will eventually get one tapped and not hear a thing. Better to not get too attached.
@@reasonwarrior One tap and hearing nothing could be a suppressed sniper from outside hearing range that got a head shot. Or it could be the sign of a possible hacker killing you with his Glock from 600 yards.
Pro tip: when drinking you get better hydration levels when you drink from a container vs your hand. So when at a well if you have a bottle, pot, or cantine fill it then immediately drink from it till full then fill again before leaving.
Nice... When u build a camp fire u have to wait for the ash pile to appear around the bottom... Basically let it heat up for 30 seconds or so

Just got the game and was feeling a bit overwhelmed 😅 this video helped me out so much lol, was crouch walking everywhere and not making it far before I died. Now I feel more comfortable and been able to make it further than the first small town I find. Thank you 🙏

@@greyjones1892 me too but way longer than a year, I noticed the "kill an infected" achievement was only 24% of players which really shows how common it is for people to buy then not play it or die a few times to starvation and zombies then give up.
Thanks. Great video. I just picked up DayZ and I've watched a few starter guides and your video was excellent and helpful.
If you see a tent set up in the street ALWAYS check the inventory. When I find a barrel or a storage container I always put it in a visible area close to where I’m looting and anything I don’t keep I will put in the storage so new items can spawn in and the items I do t need have a place to go so others can take them.
Bought this game in beta for 20 bucks, but never played until very recently. This video helped, a lot. ✊🏻
Things like matches, bottles of alcohol etc you can combine to consolidate into one slot. Might lose out on condition (the same way you do with ammo) but still useful.

For the faster looting when switching coat or pants it's F as long as you have capacy to take it all just keep hitting F
The .22 LR Mk II pistol has a built-in suppressor so it is very quiet. It's like it is built for killing zombies. It will kill players with several shots but it does not do well against armor.
You can use ANY water source to wash your hands, water pump, water bottle, ocean, river, lake, scummy pond, ANY water source.
You may get cuts on your hands when vaulting fences, so gloves are nice to have. You can craft gloves from rags, also shoes and face masks. The crafted gloves and shoes have relatively short durability but handy in a pinch. IDK durability of face mask. Crafted shoes are very, very quiet. Good when sneaking.
Animal or human guts can be used to craft rope which can then be used to craft fishing line. Fishhooks (low durability) can also be crafted from bone. A long stick can be a fishing rod. Dig up a few worms, combine a hook and a worm then combine that to the line on a fishing rod and you can now catch fish from any open water, creek, river, pond, lake, ocean. Ocean fish are mackerel, fresh water fish are carp. Each fish will give you 2 fish steaks. With a fishing rod you only need an open water source, and you will always have food available to you. When fishing you may "catch" some loot, some good, some bad. Sometimes a fish will get away with eating your worm. Dig up more. If the fishing is not going well in one spot, move a few feet/yards/meters left or right.
Good video. Sometimes when entering a building it is good to close the door behind you so your "six" is safe.

Drink from bottle it’s faster and drink until you get full stomach icon you can refill the bottle faster than sipping water.sharpening stone can keep your knives and axe and other edged weapons from getting ruined for longer

Use the guts x3 to craft a rope, 5hen add sticks to craft burlap sack
you can use sharpening stones to sharpen your sharp edges
I once spawned with a flare next to a house with a chicken, knife and a can of pipsi....best start i have ever had
Amazing video! There's just one thing i would recommend - there's a really simple strategy how to beat a zombie without getting hurt and risking losing some of your health, be sure to check it out, much better than just trading hits :) also works well if youre under attack of 2-3 zombies. will be helpful im sure :) anyway thank you for helping me get back into the basics!
I'll try to describe to make you spent less time on that. You hold right click and backing off. They are coming at you and usually throws 2 normal and 1 heavy hit. Since youre backing, you avoid all those hits and you hit them with your heavy right after they miss their heavy. with a bit of training and proper timing you can kill more zombies at once :)
double clicking makes it quicker to pick stuff up or transfer things :) Also Alarm Clocks are the worst because they look like a can of food :P
If have bloody hands you must wash them before drinking with your hands. If you have gloves it doesn't matter.
Awesome guide!! Super small thing I thought I'd add. Your plosives are a little pronounced in your mic, I'm not sure what your recording set up is but if you grab a pop filter and/or have your mic off to the side of your mouth, say 45 deg. ish then it will help avoid some of the "p" plosives. Just food for thought, mic sounds great otherwise.
I’ve had the game in my library for about 2 years never played. Nobody wants to play. But this video has helped me understand the game to re install it. Hoping to play when my kid goes to nap lol
Many players team up. Teaming with strangers can be dangerous to your health. Some players will team with a random player, search a town for loot as a team, maybe sharing what one does not want/need, then kill their partner to get his loot. Two finders, one keeper. Lowest of the low in my book.
Double click left mouse in your inventory to fast move items ;)
If you do find a bottle and are at a fountain use the bottle to drink from rather than the fountain as it is much faster and always drink till you see the belly full icon as will keep you hydrated for much longer.

Great video, thank you!! It's so hard to me to find food, I've survived 37 minutes with only an apple and some kind of cookies...
Fruit and veggies are low value food but good in a pinch. If you cook the fruit/veggie it will be a better value food. If you see an orchard, jog near each tree, then give it about 10 minutes and check each tree for spawned fruit. You can use that wait period to search for more food in houses and such. This can be repeated since you just passed each tree again and you may find some mushrooms where you have already been. I toss any rotten fruit I find out of the orchard.

I had quite an interesting experience my first time playing DayZ. I ended up getting into fights with players in a factory and killed them all with a stick… later on I ambushed a dude with said stick and killed him in a greenhouse which he was full of loot. As I was looting someone came up behind me and we started punching each other and both fell unconscious at the same time… I woke up before him and grabbed his knife and stabbed his neck while he laid there. Later died from being cornered in a house by a group of zombies… loving this game so far, so unforgiving.
Sounds like a movie honestly. That kind of emergent gameplay is what DayZ is all about.
So a guy who had a knife came up behind you and started punching you instead of stabbing you? Seems kind of sus

You just filled your water bottle and started drinking with your hands again. Why not drink from you filled water bottle then refill it ? I think it is faster that way. Am I wrong ?
Nah cus then you have to refill it again afterwards
15:00 it’s important to mention why we empty the bottle, never drink anything unless it’s from the fountain or you can get cholera and your character will die

There is an online map of Chanarus called Isurvive. Put it on another monitor or a phone. Water pumps are marked along with a ton of other places.

The food and water last a long time you were not even hungry or need water chasing the bull,how long does hydration or being fed last
The more active you are the faster it goes. I never travel in a sprint. Sprinting uses stamina which I may need. I sprint only in an effort to save my life. Epi pens are good for this too. Epi pens allow you to sprint for 1 minute with not stamina use. IDK what Epi pens are supposed to be used for, but most user players use them in an emergency sprint.

I know nothing of PS5 (I do Xbox) and am not up on updates, but the game is basically the same on PC and Consoles.
Drinking from a bottle will fill you up much faster, drink until you see the “digestion” icon show up.
You can combine the two box of matches.

No access. Period. Controls the route of the "maze". House looks big from outside but inside is only 2 rooms and maybe a hall.

Chickens are easy to kill. Other livestock can be killed but is harder. Wild game can also be killed and eaten, even wolves. If you find or make a fishing pole, line, and hook, you can catch fish (food) when near open water. Essentially, fishing gear can keep you fed until that death dealing bullet finds you.

Played for about 4 hours after days of trying to learn the game, logged out, logged back in 5 hours later to "you are dead" so it's safe to say this game is dogshit
Totally fair haha I didn't like it either for ages. I think it's in a better place now but still lots to be desired.
@GreyBeardGamingYT gave it a second try, enjoyed the 8 hours I was alive made great progress, signed on the next day with half my inventory gone and spawned back on the coast after hours of making my way to the mainland, died because I had all my food taken by the game. Games complete horseshit no clue how people gaslight themselves into liking it
That sucks. I have played a good bit on XBox servers and PC servers and have never had that happen. Sorry to hear it. The learning curve for Dayz is steep but well worth it once you really start to understand the basics and learn the best places to find the loot you need to survive.@@gamerknowledge539

@gamerknowledge539 I'm guessing you didn't choose the same server your character was in for that 8 hours...you have to log back in to the same server if you want to keep your progress in that server. Basically you started a new character when you change servers.

Just thinking maybe if you are new to the game you shouldn't be making tutorials for it? This was terrible and anyone with 50 or more hrs in the game will know it. So many bad things.
I was having fun with it and it seems beginners have found the video useful and wanted to go check out the game which is pretty great.
