That music that no one heard because the Sound Driver wasn't installed
Except for OEM preinstallations and the odd compatible soundcard. For instance, my Dell Dimension 4100 has some sort of SoundBlaster PCI card, and I heard this music on it after a clean XP installation.
my first XP computer did as it had an oem soundcard that worked during installation.

Windows XP really made me feel like my computer "suddenly spring to life" immediately once I got past the basic text install prompts. It felt like I opened a portal to the future.
Now, installing Windows feels cold and slightly ominous. An accurate reflection of how the company has changed.

That,I think that it gave them a personality, and now they're trying to be your "buddy" while fucking with your data, with such a puncheable fake personality,it makes me want to yell at whoever thought this was good design. (As example,just look at winxp and win10's bsod: one tells you immediately whats the problem, the other you have to search for it)

Story time: as a ~13-14 year old, I accidentally stumbled upon this song among the install files on my family PC, fell in love with it, and burned it to a CD as many times as it would fit, so I could fall asleep to it on a loop. (My Karaoke machine which was my CD player at the time did not have a working "repeat all" feature.) I fell asleep to this every single night for eons. I still have the disk somewhere.

Windows XP will NEVER die! I use it and enjoy it in a virtual machine every day. It is the most iconic OS Microsoft has ever released.
XP was so popular back in the day (and rightfully so), that Microsoft had to support it for literally 12.5 years (or 17.5 years for ESU), which is a significantly longer lifespan than any other OS ever released.
XP was the sole version of Windows to include ONLY improvements compared to its predecessors, in every single aspect -- stability, security, performance, appearance, interface, features, customizabilty, and more. Unlike any other version of Windows, XP did not remove any useful features and gave you complete and total freedom to customize the look and feel of your PC without having to rely on some hacks or third-party tools.
Not to mention its unique and iconic default desktop background, which is by far the most calming and beautiful among all Windows versions. It actually became the most recognizable picture in the world, thanks to XP's huge popularity and people's understandable refusal to upgrade for so many years.
For these reasons (and many more), XP will always have a special place in the hearts of so many people. Even today, 22.5 years after release and a full DECADE after support ended, XP is still used on approximately 9 million PCs around the world. It is insane, but not really surprising given how perfect this OS is!
My school computers still use it, and I've been convincing them to upgrade to Windows 7 since it first came out. Now that I think about it, it's still a great operating system and maybe they shouldn't be forced to upgrade it because some dumb 15-year-old told them so.
Lots of computers were designed for XP and just couldn't run well on Vista or later. Also VMs.

People that were born the year XP came out are now graduating from high school and have become old enough to go vote, join the military, work full-time, and live lives of their own. Incredible how time flies.

I'm putting this music on as I am currently installing Windows 11 on my PC. Windows needs to bring back the installation music.
The problem is that the sound drivers are mostly not loaded during installation. You can only hear this on special occasions.

@@bedrocklolgame on some hardware at the time, yes, but PC after 2002 or newer will ships with different audio chips or different sound cards that winXP does not have by default. My PC from 2012 did play this music because i have integrated the drivers into the ISO using NLite.

10 years ago today, Windows XP began its journey to the computing graveyard. The OS itself may have just been thousands of codelines wrapped into a neat package, but the memories it helped provide for countless people worldwide are what make it special.

Probably windows could not recognize your sound card after installation or you were too quick to start using Windows XP. My dad has worked at Microsoft since 1994, and ever since I was born he's occasionally taken me into the MSFT buildings on the Redmond campus to take me exploring. I remember going around the offices, watching the same people that made Windows XP play foosball with my dad or playing Halo CE in after work parties. I didn't know it at the time, but I was there to witness a part of the Personal Computer Revolution, and I count myself lucky to have been a witness of it.
This song is a nice reminder of those times I spent in Redmond, and it also reminds me to work hard in school so that I can be a part of the next revolution of my time.
2023 Update:
For anyone reading this today, I was recently hired at Microsoft to be a software engineer at their Redmond campus. It's been fun being able to explore all the old buildings with my own badge now!

I know, nowadays the whole thrill of new operating systems and hardware is completely gone. Remember when everyone had a unique PC and there was always something interesting to do with them? Nowadays they've really standardized everything and made it pretty bland. Windows is the equivalent of Mac at this point, hardware has a bandwagon mentality ("DID YOU GET THE 3090 YET??") and the only unique thing about PCs nowadays is what gay combination of stupid RGB lighting effects you have...
They may have been tacky (arguable, imho), but you sure as hell can't deny that the Operating Systems of yesteryear had personality.
@@wallyhackenslacker I think Microsoft should revamp XP so it runs on modern PCs using the same architecture as Windows 10. Then I will finally be happy.
@@cessnafun5385 You do realize Windows 10 is basically a heavily revamped version of XP, right? All versions since NT have built on top of eachother and you'll still find original code from Windows NT from the 90s in some parts of Windows 10. If you really wanted to, you could make Windows 10 look and operate just like XP with a bunch of tweaking. There are guides for this all over the internet.

I'm sad because I was too young to understand anything about Windows XP, much less about computers... I was born a couple years before Vista came out. I built a Win98 PC as well as restored an old Optiplex GX620 (had no OS, was in dire need of cleaning, sat in a closet for four years, etc) for the sake of learning why these systems were so nostalgic for everyone else. The Win98 PC isn't quite old enough (only parts I had were from 2000s era) but it boots with no issues. My only memory of WinXP is some old desktop we used to have until it was donated recently
@@aidancommenting I have an old Windows 98 computer myself. I don't remember much about its early history, but it belonged to an old family friend whose name is Steve Loforte (I think he is still alive, but it's been probably almost 20 years since I saw him as a little kid) and I believe it originally ran Windows 95 until I upgraded it with some family help to Windows 98 Second Edition sometime in the very early 2000s.
Brings me back to when my father bought our family our first computer a compaq. So nostalgic.

@@techosarusrex "Quality updates" is concerningly vague. Frankly I don't care what kind of updates it is, don't force updates. If I want an insecure OS that's what I'll use, I just installed Windows XP on a VM to play some older games I have, and at least I have that freedom. I worry about the day when I can no longer do that with the future's equivalent. Microsoft has said they're not going to make a new OS for a while. Imagine if next there's an update that changes something so significant, that older programs may struggle to run, even though they're written for that same OS. It'd be like the OS changes from before, but more subtle. Now it'll forcibly update me to the new version that has issues with older stuff, and I might not be able to run those things anymore.
I know that sounds like a scenario that Microsoft wouldn't cause, but I don't want to put my trust in someone else to not be incompetent. Just let me have control over my own computer, and if they don't screw things up, I'll happily update. This new way of doing things is just weird, and I'm not even some old fart who's stuck in some way he's been doing things for years.
2023 and I still listen to it, when I installed in back during 2001, these stuff were full of glamour. Technically everything is so advanced now, I wish I could revert back to the time, but now I realize I’m getting older.
