Dream is my first ever 4.3 octave marimba solo written for two mallets. I find that two mallets takes away the complications of four mallet grips, laterals and other advanced techniques, leaving you to focus on the quality of your sound and the intent of your melodic expression. Dream is spacious and floaty in its construction, allowing you to interpret the directional voices in your own special way.
The title Dream stems from my experience of turning dreams into reality. I have found that some of my most ambitious goals in life, like owning my own 5.0 octave marimba, or making an income from the internet, came from dreams that seemed impossible to ever achieve at the time. Dream reflects on the idea that while many of our dreams and wishes may not work out, continuing to dream big and thinking of a better future will always help us grow and become stronger.

Finally, here is one of my last releases for 2020, a two mallet solo called 'Dream'! It's been really challenging writing for two mallets but I think it's a lot of fun seeing just how much you can get from only having one mallet in each hand. This was sooooooo goood! But i noticed that mostly all of your pieces are slow tempo and are made to be expressive (besides a couple of duos). Itd be cool if u could make a piece similar to Restless or Libertango where it is just fast paced the majority of the time.

I bought the sheet because it's a pretty piece and for 2 mallets. I just started learning marimba and wanted to start with 2 mallets. But MAN, these notes are SO SMALLLL! For marimba, there's a big distance between your eyes and the music stand behind the marimba. I feel I constantly need to squint or leaning super forward to read the notes... I am a piano player and the notes are even smaller than my piano scores... When I use my peripheral vision to check the notes I only see dots....

hi! i know this is an old video now but do you have any advice on keeping the polyrhythms loose? mine always sound so rudimental but yours are so free
I think practicing it slowly and getting the right hand to float between the left hand more makes it sound more "loose" easier 🙂
