    This was very informative. But the star of the show was little Rose when she was making her bed - and that look she gave you was priceless. Thank you for the information and for the little chuckle this morning. I would love to see a tutorial you do with these products. Thanks again

    Another cool thing one can do with all three of these Derwent sets is to mix them with regular watercolors to create beautiful and complex colors.

    I mainly use color pencils and watercolors but I was curious about the Derwint graphitint pencils since I like drawing a lot with different mediums. Your review gave me a good idea on how they look on paper. I discovered your channel not long ago and I appreciate all the efforts, time and cheerfulness you both put into this. Thank you, you gained a new subscriber!👍

    At this point, I don't consider this a need to have. I may go for the pencils more than the paints if I had the need. In terms of the watercolor or watercolor-like paints I have many paints that mimmic the look of these paints and I think pigments like PBk 11 (Daniel Smith's Lunar Black) can be used to mimmic the look of charcoal. I really don't feel the need to order or run out to the store to get these.

    I can easily see using the charcoal pencils or paints to enhance the values needed under pencils in the pages we work on. If you know you are going to work on a certain tone in one area the appropriate colored pencil can be used for shading first. I've had the pencils in my amazon cart for awhile and just couldn't decide, but this video demonstration has helped. Thanks :)

    I wanted to ask you something, I've been told by several people to keep watercolor pencils as dry as possible; never dip in the water or use them on wet paper it's OK to run a brush at the very tip [where the color is and avoiding the wood as these things can ruin your pencils I saw you color in a wet square with a pencil, so I'm curious on your opinion of these "rules" TIA

  • @lisaleone2296
    @lisaleone2296 Рік тому +6

    You lost me pretty early on. First, charcoal and graphite are two different things. They're not interchangeable. Second, you kept talking about how "un-colorful" the tinted charcoal products are. They aren't supposed to be colorful. They're *charcoal*. I use them all the time to add subtle washes of color to landscapes and architectural renderings. The sunset pink is perfect for highlighting stonework or beach sand, the purples make interesting stormy skies, and the various blues and greens can help pull back faraway treelines and hills.

    Loved seeing the cat! I'm interested in painting with the graphite, and have tried painting with charcoal & soft pastel (naturally WS, as you said). I like them "stormy" name you gave the tinted charcoal. I think that's what they meant as "atmospheric," like a moody film noir -- foreboding and oppressive/claustrophobic. I wish I could draw better. Im buying some WS graphite to try value studies -- excited!! Good subject!

    The tinted charcoal set is meant to be a muted tone of colors. You need to purchase the Derwent Inktense charcoal pan set or their pastel set if you want bright vibrant colors. Also, these are meant to be layered for the brightest boldest colors. Kuretake charcoal pan sets are even more muted in color than Derwent but the major difference is Kuretake goes on DARK and adding water lightens it, while Derwent goes on light and layering it adds vibrancy. They compliment each other perfectly. All around, charcoal paint pans are my absolute FAVORITE 'watercolor' to work with.

    I wonder, what would happen (on the black paper when u wet the pencils) if now that they are dry, u go and add another layer (s)? Would the fact that you have that first layer set on the paper, thanks to the water, serve as a base allowing the layers on top to show?! 🤔
