I live in Alcove Wyoming. Blessings to you and the dogs mules and wife sir . Stay out while you can sorry young lady . It hurts when we cant get out there . Yes i can walk but the grizzliy baers. Not nice.
I enjoy your adventures on your mules with your hounds. Taking old trails and talking about the history of the land and what happened there. I wish I still rode Horse back. I haven’t ridden since 1994. Old age and bad knees had something to do with it.
That tall cowboy in the picture with Ben Lilly is my great uncle,Walter Hotchkiss. He got drug by a horse where Snow Lake is now and he died on the wagon ride out to Mogollon.
You can't. That's the purpose of it being a wilderness. You can't use motorized vehicles, chainsaws, machinery, etc in it. You can camp, hike, ride to your heart content, it belongs to all of us, you and me.
Dadgum it Brett I could write a book in the comment's. I have to say when I heir you speak of your father it makes me wish I could of had times like those with my father!
Once again, I thank you for taking me trail riding into some awesome country. Wish I could ride and camp like you do. Your stories and the scenery makes me feel me as if I am living in my ancestors time. Thanks again for the show-me-the-waycation. Happy trails to you.
Thanks for showing us followers the beautiful wilderness country I will never see, but long to experience the travels you make. So relaxing to watch you with your dogs and mules. Good traveling my friend.
I discovered what a majestic place the Gilas a few years ago. It's where the desert meets the mountains. I've pulled a hunting tag for the last 5 years. Never got a deer or elk. But honestly, it just gets me out there. What an amazing part of our country.
I’m working on paying off some of my debts this year and planning on coming to New Mexico and purchasing some land next year then I can start exploring like you and living the good life. I need to do this while I’m still young. I will be 80 years old this year, and by the grace of God, I’m in pretty good health
I'm looking myself. Mimbres Valley looks like it might be a great place to settle. Siver City is less than 30 minutes away. On the northeast side, there is cloride. No Walmart. But they have a good general store. They both have great access to the gila's. Good luck with settling out here.
FROM MAINE,THANK YOU GUYS.DID YOU SEE NORTHERN LIGHTS ON THE 10TH? SPECTACULAR HERE...I LIKE HEARING THE MULES CLIP CLOP,MUSIC WAS NOT NEEDED..GREAT CHANNEL,SAFE TRAVELS TILL NEXT TIME..
By all means make another trip. I really look forward to your adventures. This one was great. Thanks for the effort it takes to video these trips. God Bless!
I thought that mule was going to work out...Darn! Beautiful country and a wonderful river with a great flow, It reminds me of parts of Arizona south of Flagstaff. Your videos sure make me miss the Southwest! There was a time I thought I would never go East but here I am living a great life "The poets tell how Pancho fell And Lefty's living in cheap hotels The desert's quiet, Cleveland's cold And so the story ends we're told Pancho needs your prayers it's true But save a few for Lefty too He only did what he had to do And now he's growing old"
Living on the road my friend Was gonna keep you free and clean And now you wear your skin like iron And your breath as hard as kerosene Weren't your mama's only boy But her favorite one it seems She began to cry when you said goodbye And sank into your dreams Pancho was a bandit boy His horse was fast as polished steel He wore his gun outside his pants For all the honest world to feel… good stuff thank you … new mules are going to be great keep your fingers crossed Thanks !
used to live in silver city new mexico did a lot of exploring the GILA and still come back every year for the last 40 years there is alot to see some will say that it is just a desert 🏜 I don't care I feel better when I am in it always something new to see it just makes me happy 😊you keep going I'll keep watching ❤️
Me too. Lived in Silver 30 yrs ago,and thinking of retiring there. He even mentioned a person I remember. I could have written your comment. This whole experience is making me smile.
Me too! Lived in Pinos Altos for a year. It was the best year for me, exploring Indian ruins and river canyons teaming with history and wildlife. I am 63 now
This is easily one of my favorite videos you've done. I hunted Unit 24 South of the Mimbres and along the Continental Divide for several years. It just started getting too crowded up there with too many road hunters running around on ATVs where they shouldn't be riding them. Lots of bears in that area. I never saw one, but I saw plenty of scat and heard them. I always looked across the way at the Wilderness and figured I'd have to go up in there, someday. One time, I was up there and the rancher had a bunch of yearling calves running around there, and they kept following me around while I was hunting, making all kinds of racket. Well, I ditched them and went hiking down a finger to see what was at the end of it. Then I heard something in the brush. I figured it was one of those calves, and I'd have a little fun and sneak up on it and see if I could spook it. So, I crept up to the bush as quiet as could be and when I got close I jumped up to scare it. Only, it wasn't a calf. It was a big bull elk! (I had a mule deer tag). I saw that elk and went Aaaack! That elk saw me and went Aaaack! and went tearing down the side of the hill, busting through the brush like a bulldozer. That was the first time I saw an elk in that unit.
Saw some cliff-like dwellings in the mid-late nineties, up past the hot springs, just tucked back in a little blind canyonette. been there for nearly 800 to 1200 yrs, so probably still is. Good luck and Godspeed.
Thanks for doing these amazing videos. My late husband and I packed mules and horses for years. Yes us Californians had mules! I miss my life from those times. I'm 68 and would love to still be doing it.
Oh my goodness I have fallen in love with this guy! I would surely do the rides with him! And the way he tells stories ❤ just like meeeee! LOL you're awesome sir 🫡 thank you for the content and for the stories!
A group of us from fort Stanton went deer hunting when I was 11. It was my first time out, and my dad gave me my mom's rifle which had a scope. I found a knoll and parked myself hoping to spot a deer run by. But, as i got to looking, i saw a big doe that someone else must have hit barely visible lying in the brush. I ran and told everyone that i had got one but never revealed that i didn't even have to fire a shot. This all happened in about 20 minutes of us reaching the hunting sight. It was my first and last deer hunt.
Love your show. I'm sixty six now. Never had horses or mules. But hunted with a backpack and be gone for ten days at a time all throughout the cascades in Washington. Your a great storyteller and make me feel as though I'm right there with you. Thank you.
I really wish I was there with you. I truly miss those days. I think that doing what you're doing and spending the time doing the things you love like that up in those mountains when I did that I don't think I ever felt closer to God.
Iwas able to find a couple old newspaper articles on that grave you found. Appears like that Wood felt that Grudgens, a wealthy cattle man murdered his 15 year old son the year before. Interesting trip Brett.
Happened on this channel today...love it! I always wanted to do the things you do, never have had the chance. Thanks for bringing to me ❤ . You must have been doing this your whole life, love the experiences you share.

"The poets tell how Pancho fell
And Lefty's living in cheap hotels
The desert's quiet, Cleveland's cold
And so the story ends we're told
Pancho needs your prayers it's true
But save a few for Lefty too
He only did what he had to do
And now he's growing old"
Living on the road my friend
Was gonna keep you free and clean
And now you wear your skin like iron
And your breath as hard as kerosene
Weren't your mama's only boy
But her favorite one it seems
She began to cry when you said goodbye
And sank into your dreams
Pancho was a bandit boy
His horse was fast as polished steel
He wore his gun outside his pants
For all the honest world to feel… good stuff thank you … new mules are going to be great keep your fingers crossed Thanks !

@@BrettVaughnB100 Yeah, I thought about the bear possibility afterwards and got to thinking how dumb that could have been.

Old school, absolutely cool, did not know mountain men still existed.
A group of us from fort Stanton went deer hunting when I was 11. It was my first time out, and my dad gave me my mom's rifle which had a scope.
