The thing that I remember the most is that oddly disquieting tone that it ended on. What with the main characters meeting up in a bar, years after the conflict. I was too young to understand the intricacies of the Cold War. So none of that was in my head during the gameplay. So I suppose, inadvertently, I ended up embodying the type of character Armstrong was. A random grunt, forced to to fight for his life on some far away mysterious island. And when you drive through Everon you realise it's unchanged (obviously it's the same map). And civilians are walking around or driving tractors like nothing has even happened. Like the conflict never occurred. It felt like "that's it? Life just moves on?. I've...killed' people. Many people. Soldiers with names. Families. That forest over there, I shot two men whilst trying to evacuate Everon. Buried their bodies with the 'Hide Body' function in fear that I'd be detected. I've shot men dead on Malden, literally stepping over the corpses in the streets." But there's no grand medal ceremony. No big moment of closure. Everyone seems to downplays the incident that you nearly died in. Because it's political convenient for both sides to do so. Almost all the people you started the game with are dead. And nobody seems to care? The lack of closure the game offers is very memorable.
this is the only game that had an realistic ending, it's up to you if guba is alive, dead, or away from the island. Including SCUD it's up to you. Yet at the end the life just continues, soldiers we controlled just continue their life. operation cold war was and is the best game ever
perfect game perfect story perfect characters perfect gameplay perfect at everything this game despite the old graphics still more enjoyable and challenging than modern games thanks bohemia and i love the photo at the end this game is real legacy
I remember this cutscene breaking so many times because of the mods i had installed... some triggers would just not go off because a guy died too early or a tank didnt completely blow up or something.
Now THIS is a game that needs a modern day remake. Imagine the forests with modern technology. Imagine those dynamically generated voice lines with modern AI voice technology. Hell yeah.
