My uncle was the engineering officer for a Canadian Destroyer ship named HMCS Fraser during the end of the Cold War, they monitored submarine movements in the Baltic, and made sure they weren't doing sus things while the country collapsed. He has such cool stories. Love that man.

(I wouldn't be surprised if the F-15 remains in service long after the F-35.) The B-52 was riddled with flaws in the beginning, but most have been resolved since. The Abrams is a good tank for the most part, but may need to be given a different drive and propulsion system in the future in case gasoline reserves run low. (It's turbine engine guzzles a lot of fuel.) The A-10 has a debated history. There has been talks to replace it with a more simplistic and nimble aircraft, one of the proposed aircraft being an armored and heavily armed cropduster. There are of course other classified aircraft and assets that may enter combative service if there should ever be another global conflict and the situation becomes dire enough.

Things that came out of the Cold War were spying, NASA, and the race to space. We developed advanced aircraft and certainly wouldn't be the society we are if not for the Cold War. I do believe though that it was a race to see who would go bankrupt first, I don't think any really went bankrupt, but I don't know if anyone won the Cold War. The Soviet Union dissolved and Russia became a complete chaotic mess with Chechnya and over all post Soviet block suffered a lot from post Cold War. And now I think more than ever we are starting to feel the effects of the Cold War. The catastrophes of it and the several losses of people through you could say, useless conflicts.
Even a conventional war between NATO and the Warsaw Pact would have been insanely bloody. And if you consider the tens of thousands of nukes on both sides...thank god both sides managed to keep a cool head, even if things got out of control at some points.

Another bomber worth mentioning is the Tu-22M, while not the newest or most capable it has found acclaim. Prior to the 2022 it wasn't all that popular, even with the Russians themselves, but it has proven to be an effective backbone. At the latest when it played a crucial part together with artillery to level Mariupol.

More than 50 years since its first flight- it still looks something ahead of our time. Truly one of the finest masterpieces of aeronautical engineering and design there ever was.
