The main reason the production has taken so long is that Cameron needed to wait for technology regarding mocap for underwater scenes to develop to the point it has. Absolutely cannot wait.
Also ppl often forget that all the years spent not to just film the first sequel, but all the other 4 sequels back to back.

The fact that they developed technology to film mocap underwater is in and of itself absolutely incredible. Say what you will about Avatar's story, but there is genuine passion that you can feel went into it. Also, the fact that this film largely takes place in an ocean environment, and knowing how deep of a connection Cameron has to our oceans, makes me incredibly excited as well.

pure nosgia i felt way too emotional
The shot of the Navi hanging onto the fin of the whale and touching the surface is next level.
And the music is just gliding as the camera angle is shifting is pure bliss.

Amazing visuals, the first one 13 years ago is still mind blowing and even looks leagues better than some newer movies.
One thing I know about James Cameron is he likes to push the boundaries of cinema technology to tell his stories to the rest of the world.
Yeah, but that's the only boundary he's been pushing for the last twenty years... I hope he didn't forget to write a proper scenario this time.

This movie took so long for 2 main reasons.
1) James Cameron spent a lot of time writing all 4 sequels at once so the story would be “just right” in his eyes, and he directed them all back to back, which took years. Partly because the kid actors in the movie would grow fast in real life so he needed to shoot them all at once before they aged out.
2) Just like why he waited between filming Titanic and the first Avatar he needed to work with his team on the technology needed to make this movie look even better than the first. And yes he actually did help develop some of the tech because he is a technical genius as well as an artistic genius.
Sorry, but if the four sequels are as well written as the first movie, the writing must have taken him, like, a week, at most.

@@SCharlesDennicon you try building LITERALLY an entire fictional culture on a fictional planet with an ecological system that no one has ever seen on earth, then tell me how easy it is. Also every single critic of the movie has said this movie is just Dances With Wolves meets Ferngully, go out to Times Square and ask at least 500 random people how many of them have seen or even heard those films and how many have seen Avatar. I’ve met people in their 20’s who have said they grew up on that movie like other people grow up in Star Wars or LOTR.

@@thedarkknight2221 You said it yourself: "you TRY". That's the issue I have with Avatar: Cameron tried and failed. I'm fond of Cameron's directing style, I've watched each of his movies from his golden age (1984-1994 in my books) five to ten times, but uninspired writing is uninspired writing. Let's say the universe he built is more than a mix of Dances With The Wolves and Pocahontas, and I find his character designs pleasing to eye (after all, that's my problem): Avatar still has an awfully bland protagonist played by a bad actor, an insipid antagonist, and an overall predictable plot. That's why I say if Cameron was as inspired in the writing of the four sequels as he was writing the PLOT of the first movie, it won't be good, no matter of good the two hours long graphic demo will be.
Oh, and you know gen Z who "grew up on that movie like others grow up in SW" => You can't be serious. :D Avatar was a technological, not a cultural revolution revolution.

Yeah I feel you growing up I was scared to death terrified of the movie itself I was so afraid of the avatars na’vi I couldn’t even see their faces because my heart will jumped out of my chest but after a few years I lost my fear and now I love this movie but not going to lie Jake neytiri and their family and the rest of the na’vi are kinda scary except for the human kid but I still love all of them and like you said it’s a bit scary because now it’s look even more real
Happy Tears.... Avatar was impactful in my life... And one of my friends started his own environmental business after watching the first movie because he was so moved by how important environment actually is and it opened up new world for him....

I saw this trailer in 3D in theatres, during Doctor Strange 2. It was mind blowing. I have a lot of expectations and there is so much hype from this movie. I can't wait to see it in cinemas. I hope this movie will fulfill my expectations. I'm a big fan of Avatar 1.

When I watched Dr Strange the other night, I kept thinking about this trailer throughout the entire film!! Just goes to show how epic Avatar is gonna be!! It is gonna set the standard, again in film making!!!!
I watched avatar long long back, never rewatched it somehow. But this movie has stayed with me forever since then.
I had no idea there was new one coming, and this has been best surprise ever.
There are very very few movies I watch and feel connected to, this is one of it. That’s how special this is, totally relate to what you felt.

Did anyone else see the brief glimpse of Stephen Lang’s character? He’s in an Avatar body now! That’s how they brought him back. It will be interesting to hear it explained in the film how they did it. This looks gorgeous! I cannot wait! I adore the first and James looks to have upped the ante yet again.
Yeah when i saw this in imax it was crazy. And something about the music just instantly takes you back to the first movie. I wanted to cry. Idk why haha
13 years later and it still looks stunning! Avatar is still one of the best theater experiences I've ever had
The first movie was amazing for the time, there were times when we were in the humans command center and it looked like it was in the theater. I know it at some point became in vogue to knock Avatar and the story, but the in theater experience was beautiful, which likely colors my opinion and I still love the original movie.
That human kid with the bow and arrow is their adopted son. What I heard is that he was born in Pandora and the human kid was left behind and I also heard that Jake adopted him but Neytiri refused to because of his species and what they did to her father. I do have a feeling that both Jake and Neytiri will have a big argument which it is the pinnacle of the story. But regardless I’m excited to watch after 13 years!
Yah, I think your onto something. I also think the kids will be kidnapped by the humans and held for ransom or something. There will probably be tribal conflict between the different Navi species as well. Lots of ways for them to expand the story...

Hard to believe that it has taken 13 years to make this. I was 17 when I first saw the first Avatar in theaters. It not only inspires me to take a film major since James Cameron is a great filmmaker, but also really change my life forever. I’m excited to see this sequel!
Not only this but 3 more for the franchise was being made!!

Can't believe its been 13 years since the first movie came out, i was 15 and our highschool decided to take us all to watch the movie in the cinema, i remember wishing my crush would sit next to me (which she did) and that added more to the experience, i still never forgot that night, the nostalgia will hit me good when i watch the second part & i can't wait
This movie… avatar the first one was a classic and holds so many cherished memories in my heart of a person I love who passed away and we would watch this movie together, it was her favorite movie aswell. It’s a classic and I hope this one is just as good if not better.

(Aka, where her eyebrows would be if she had eyebrows) lol
