When the staircase scene came up, my brother and I were watching, and I mentioned M.C. Escher. My brother goes, "Why is it so colorful?" Anyone asking wondering why they chose all the Easter pastel colors, it's a psychological move to make someone put their guard down. They see bright festive colors, they figure nothing bad could happen. They're here to win a lot of money, and the colors make it look like this is going to be a celebratory affair. If they would've gone with black, white and gray, it would've changed their mindset, and that would've changed the atmosphere altogether. There are some jail cells that are colored certain shades of blue or green, as cooler colors tend to make inmates behave better and act calmer than they normally would be under a stressful situation like sitting in jail.
One very subtle thing about the Korean word for “eliminated” (탈락, Tal-lag) is that it sounds more like “failing to make the cut” or “failing to win” than “being removed”. “Eliminated” is similar to “removed”, so people can more easily infer that it may mean “killed” in English. Koreans would not assume it means getting killed… although the circumstances these participants are in suggest that.
I’m sure there are a lot of nuances that we miss out on because we are reading subtitles but it’s so much fun to watch stories from another culture and see what we do get while also exposing ourselves to different cultures and ways of thinking. @@Achara Yes! I am glad you two are doing reactions to this show. There are a lot of subtle things that are missed due to translation, cultural differences, etc. But, I did enjoy your review/analysis.
"Eliminated" is the correct word even in English and I think it's a good translation. In sports tournaments, teams that get knocked out are eliminated. Or just any competition that involves knockout type of match-ups. I'm not sure why people think "eliminated" gives anything away. Yeah it can mean people get killed, but in the real world it's correct for a loser of a competition.
@@sadonishi6158 I think you misunderstood what I wrote or didn’t understand what I was saying at all. I never said it was not a correct translation or word in English. What I was saying is that the Korean word is subtly different. “Eliminated” is probably the best word in English for the Korean word. However, like any similar words in English, there are subtle things that cannot be directly translated. That word is similar to “getting dropped” or “dropping out” or “failing to make the cut”, etc. However, many reactors on UA-cam, because they probably kind of knew what the show is about, almost immediately mentioned that the participants would die when they read “eliminated” in the subtitles. I think people misunderstood Gihun a lot (The main protag) The point isn't that he's a gambling addict. Gong yoo already said that He graduated from technical school and have stable job until he's got unfairly laidoff and even protested and later he did small businesses but failed thus where his debt came from (fyi the director reference the unfair laidoff workers from true event) He's desperate is the point. Asking people not to panic in any stressful situation let alone one like this doesn't seem like a practical thing because inherently you normally aren't thinking logically when you're panicking. It's a paradoxical instinct that triggers fight or flight responses and since there's no way to fight a lot of people chose flight even though it would get them killed
I suppose only Americans would think that's possibly a real gun. To most of the rest of world, real guns are so uncommon that whenever we see one (like in someone's house or something), the first thing that crosses our minds is that it's a toy gun
I also feel how you felt about the guy at first I was like This show has to do much to make me like the guy but As I am in ep 04 his innocence kinda made me like him he is not a bad guy just irresponsible at times
What you can do instead of making the video disappear is almost make it faint and then you won't get copyright. Lots of channels do it. Without a video reference it's so hard to follow what u watching
There is a meme I have heard a lot that the main character of train to busan who is also the talent scout guy and all the dead people in squid game are the zombies in train to busan coming for their revenge...
It is funny to see at 34:52 the Lady and the Guy are apparently not on the same page. The lady is saying this is testing the human nature whether someone will do anything even if it has to trample upon someone else' dead body in order to reach the goal whereas the Guy refers to the first game that 'Gi-hun' accidently stepped on someone's hand/arm then tripped
What you failed to articulate might be this: There are different human responses when you are faced with a dangerous situation: Fight, flight or freeze. I dont think there is a way to know how you react to a dangerous situation if you´ve never been in a similar one. So the panic and running reaction from the contestants is just one natural response. You can´t fight the doll or the guns so that option is out, and the ones who were lucky enough to freeze in shock are the ones who survive at least long enough to understand what is going on.
That talent scout guy is the protagonist from train to busan and Goblin...

100.000 Won only equals $100! That's why he asked for 10.000 Won, it's just 10 bucks
What does won mean? Like win?
@@jonathanmeisel won is the money south koreans use
@@AK-do9jw Oh really, lol 😂. This whole time I thought they were talking about money won like in a bet or something 🤣
@@jonathanmeisel Yeah 'won' is like 'dollar' in North America or like the 'euro'; name of the currency itself.
@@jonathanmeisel man u r so ignorant 😂
I'm glad that you React thia show, this show is everywhere, can't wait episode 6 to u react guys.
SO excited for yall to watch this!!!
The talent scout is the main actor from Train to Busan.
I'm so happy for Gong Yo love! He is amazing! His cameo suspense also adds to it!
he did it well like he is always neat and clean. girls like him.

I suppose only Americans would think that's possibly a real gun. To most of the rest of world, real guns are so uncommon that whenever we see one (like in someone's house or something), the first thing that crosses our minds is that it's a toy gun
This show is insanely good!
I recommend the movie "New World" starring Lee Jung Jae, the main character of this drama.
The best part was seeing jaby's reaction on Indian guy like
yess finally
I was waiting for that whole time
Finally!!! I knew this was a matter of time. Love you guys!!! This is going to be so much fun!!!!
5:23 That anger in Achara's face 😂
That is scary. It may look into playing that game, but nothing able to know if you moved and then getting a shot from whatever direction is scary.
Ahhhh!! I’m so happy to see this come across my subscription page ❤️❤️❤️ love you guys!!! THANK YOU
excited to see ur reactions to the next eps!!!
This show was a very nice surprise.
This is going to be lit💫
I also feel how you felt about the guy at first I was like This show has to do much to make me like the guy but As I am in ep 04 his innocence kinda made me like him he is not a bad guy just irresponsible at times
What you can do instead of making the video disappear is almost make it faint and then you won't get copyright. Lots of channels do it. Without a video reference it's so hard to follow what u watching
0:03 name mismatch🤣 I thought Jaby is going to say I am Achara Kirk this is jaby koay Hahahaha😂
Not a Spoiler(or maybe)
episode 6 is the episode you dont wanna see and there is a big twist in last episode.

I love u guys react to this...keep dropping more I enjoy this show 🤣😍🥰
one of the best series i have seen 😍
You guys are not ready for what's coming. Can't wait for the upcoming reactions..
What you failed to articulate might be this:
There are different human responses when you are faced with a dangerous situation: Fight, flight or freeze.
Im so excited that you're reacting to this series!! :D
