- An original arrangement of the tracks "Dwelling of Doom" and "Monster Dance" from the game Castlevania II: Simon's quest. Josh and I have always appreciated these soundtracks over the years and thought that these songs would translate well to our writing style. It's a musical and technical blend of metal along with some classic video game compositions.
What a horrible night to have a curse.
I always loved the video game covers too. Nice job!
Yeah man, he was my instructor for 3 years there. It was great. I introduced him to extreme music and he introduced me to some great techniques that I could apply to it. We both learned a lot from each other. He really put me in touch with my body and how to control it while drumming. It helped bring me to that next level. Thanks for the comment!
There aren't enough words that can describe how awesome this is... for the love of god... there need to be more NES arrangements like this.
Dude, thanks so much! I'm glad you enjoyed it. Please feel free to share it. I just wanted to do something new and creative and I've always loved Castlevania! Thanks for the support
Dude you are an animal! Subscribed without a doubt!
Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed the video. There are plenty others for you to check out. I try to put something new up every few months to keep you guys happy! :)
Hey man, that's the plan. I'm hoping to release it in a couple weeks so stay tuned. I figured people would be interested in seeing what it looks like after hearing it. Thanks for the support!
Amazing!
Thanks link, this was a lot of fun to arrange! Wait until the next Eschaton release, we might have another surprise ;)
I only listened to it on my phone so far, now on the big house speakers I can appreciate sound quality, I love the double bass sound. Tell your friend great guitar work as well, the lows had evil tone \m/
Haha, thanks bro. I can't agree with you more ;) Please feel free to share and spread the word. Lets show people that THIS is how it should be done.
Hey man, the video preview is still private, I only made it public in order to show a couple particular people. I'm hoping to actually release it soon though! As far as the Pillory name, I always wanted to do a follow up album to the first one which I had written most of the music on anyways. It was a particular style musically and lyrically that I love writing and I had a bunch more material in me that needed to get out! Thanks again for the support.
bro, sick track. Castlevania was a bad ass game and now it just got even better! I actually wanna hear more old gaming tracks now haha, maybe like F-Zero or something. well done guys, cant wait for more.
great job as always... outstanding TECHNIque and precision... awsom!!! Great compositions and stamina... stay brutal... cheers from POLAND ;)
This is awesome man! I remember i though about a drum playthrough while playing the game a while ago, i think that the 8 bit music in this game is pretty groovy and fits very well for some drums over it, good work! You're trully are an inspiration for modern drummers, all of your videos are amazing!
Thanks man, appreciate it. Glad you enjoyed the video
You're truly awesome. I'm ashamed to discover you just now, but better late than never. You did an amazing job in "Archangel".
Haha, well I recorded it in HD, so I don't know what else to do! Thanks for the support man
Darren you are a creative monster that is all I have to say. Greetings from Sri Lanka.
Soon enough man! And so far everyone I've shown new Pillory material has really enjoyed it and wants to hear more. I'll keep everyone posted with new videos and an official release date.
Sincerely, pure job Bro'.. Awesome drums parts.. YEAH =)
This shit was awesome man, for as many songs as you've done you still stay original.
I still listen to this once a month! Need more NES Grind Remixes! Like Batman Return of the Joker on NES Stage 1 has a Metal feel to it!
Great work as always, Darren!
Awesome, very nice
What a killer drummer with that NES music!!!
LaVonta' Lee Thanks man, I love me some old school NES music!
Me too! You're very welcome! :-)
Thanks bro! Appreciate the support. I promise to stay brutal. Cheers
Thanks man, I appreciate that. I do pride myself on making sure each project or album I work on has it's own identity. I never want to stop creating new shapes, or grooves or combinations on my kit. When it all starts to sound the same then I've failed! ;) Thanks for the support
Darren Cesca you’re a sick drummer! Subscribed !
He must be. I mentioned in the last reply that they are still in my setup. Popcorn snare to the left of tom 1 and Piccolo snare just above my first floor tom. I use them both quite a bit on the new Pillory record. 4 snare drum setup ;) thanks for the reply!
That was awesome!
HOLY SHIT. SO SICK!
Awesome that drumming / bass was intense AF
Ah, thanks so much Shuto. A version of this track is actually going to be released on the new Eschaton record. I'm hoping it'll be out this year or early 2019.
Badass man! Nice Job!
+mcgregok Hey dude! Thanks so much. Glad you enjoyed it. I've been loving 8 bit music for years and excited to modernize it for people. This track will actually be coming out on a release soon. Please feel free to check out my other videos or albums that i've worked on. See you soon on the stream ;) keep it up

+Phillip Fillmore hey Phillip, I've been a huge fan of the Castlevania sound tracks for years and they've always translated well to technical heavy music whenever i've arranged them. Glad you like the video, feel free to share and thanks for the support!
Wow...
Wow, bravo sir. You have my respect
Nice! who would have thought Castlevania music could sound even better, you just did it, good job!
Master .Blaster Hey Master Blaster, (one of my favorite NES games btw) thanks and glad you enjoyed it. I've been remixing video game music for years when I have time in between working on albums. Credit to the guitarist Josh Berry as well on this one, we wrote this arrangement together a few years back. Thanks for the support!
sick Darren!
Thanks Brett, glad you enjoyed it. I've always been a fan of game music ever since I was a little kid back in the 80's. What better way to present it then with some heaviness and technicality. I'd love to do more like this in the future, thanks for the support!
What a horrible night to have a curse.
Horrible indeed. This track is going to be released on the new Eschaton Album, should be out in 2018 on Unique Leader Records! Thanks for the support
pretty sick! make more videos!
This really whipped the llama's ass. :-)
I love this whole song man, but I gotta say IMO that 3:00 is where it's at
Thank you my friend. Glad you like it. Please spread the word in Sri Lanka!

Sharing the FUCK out of this!
Cara, que ideia legal transformar essa música em tecnical death metal, ficou muito foda!!! E esse trabalho na guitarra, quem fez, foi vc também, Darren Cesca?? belo trabalho.
is this the same project you've been toying with for like 10 years? It's nice to see it come together with real instruments
+spaldino Hey man, I've been doing video game arrangements off and on for awhile when I have time. This particular track is was just a one off that I arranged with the help of Josh Berry from Eschaton. Thanks for checking it out.
7 disliking the awesomeness. Fools.
haha, it's the internet, it happens man, no worries! Thanks for the support
Hey man, thanks for the question. I did think that the video was pretty self explanatory. Why does a guitar player have 6 or more strings and 22 or more frets? I think that some people want to have options, be creative, put a lot of personality into their playing and be able to challenge themselves when composing music. I don't think of my drums as just a time keeper, it's got so many different pitches, sounds and colors that I use to give each piece it's own feel. Thanks for the support!
Hey man. One small snare is positioned left of my 10" tom and the other small snare is on my right side above the 1st floor tom. Everything is still there but my set up has had to evolve with my playing. thanks for the comment!
An octopus with a million arms and legs cant beat u. fml.
how you cymbals never grind against each other.. now thats the real deal here!
Haha, well to be honest man it's not as tight as it may seem. Everything fits in really well. I've been working with this set-up for years so it's no big deal. A few of them do come pretty close though.
What happened to that snare you used to have up above your toms? I remember watching a video of you years ago and I always thought that snare placement was pretty cool.
i am amazed your cymbals dont hit eachother
you are thinking of his popcorn/jungle snares from back in his arsis days i think right?
Hey, no worries my man. Glad you enjoyed my work. I'm always putting out new music or a new video every few months and I have quite a few already posted that have music from my past work. Please feel free to share my page or let people know to check it out. Thanks again for the support!
I'm trying man! check out the channel, it should have 20 or more videos from all my past projects. Thanks for the support!
Hey bro. The guy from Activision knew me from Berklee, I think we attended around the same time and I guess he's been following my work from past CD's as well and liked it! So he found me. I should have a drum video up in a couple weeks of the song "Archangel" from CO2. Thanks!
You got it man. Thanks for the good words. I'll be putting together a drum performance video for Archangel in the next couple weeks on my channel. I'll keep everyone posted. Thanks!
+ that Adam guy from Goratory and you'd be sussed.
Mr.Cesca could you please do the Legend of Zelda theme.
Hmm, is that good or bad? I hope your cat survives man. And keep blasting this thing, thanks!
I've only heard it once or twice but I liked what I heard. Definitely a big improvement over the last one. I think the drummer does some things similar to my style but leaves out other things. Also without Ryan Knight as the second guitarist it's missing some elements from We are the Nightmare. A cool record though nonetheless, good stuff.
your welcome and keep drumming for kevin sherwood keep it up
Johnatan Calleri? So vó?
please do a cover of tragic prince from symphony of the night! there are literally zero drum covers!
That's a great track as well! It's certainly something to consider. I've done quite a few heavy, technical video game covers such as this one. Check out my soundcloud for more. Thanks for the comment.
I will definitely do that, thanks for reply back!
Do you know your bpm for your feet?
I do, but I would have to go and check the guitar project file to be exact. The tempos change in between the two songs. Dwelling of Doom has that 6/8 feel while Monster Dance is 4/4. My guess off hand is around 170 Bpm for Dwelling and 112 bpm for Monster Dance but don't quote me.
@Blastfest03 plz do a archangel drum cover i wanna su play it and i subscribed :)
