What frustrated me about Lynn is that her character kept going in circles. Every time you thought “Okay, she’s going to finally grow and find her true passions” NOPE. She was such an intelligent, level-headed, and supportive character so I was just like “Why can’t she get it together?” I have the feeling she just shut down after college and didn’t want to grow up. I had that feeling during graduation year. But she never grew from that.
I feel like that’s true but she was so woke . Like she understood that it was “required” of her to get a degree to be successful- because that’s what everyone tells you . But truthfully she was too out of the box to work a corporate or typical job. She just needed the stars to align . She shouldn’t of mooched off her friends like that but Joan allowed that. And I’m the end she gave back to her friends and if the show would of continued we should see her giving back way more than they could ever think of . They took care of her like a sister . She didn’t forget that .
BRUH! I'm rewatching the series for the fourth time how about in season four Lynn and William were married and she received 60K I think in the divorce she spent all of the money on a painting and was homeless again. She then becomes the property manager for Maya's apartment complex.
Agreed. She really was a good girlfriend, but that leech thing and jumping around was out of control. She truly did not learn or grow out of that until she was in her mid 30s and that’s sad
I can’t believe she had 5 masters degrees and wasn’t making at least 6 figures. She was definitely lazy. She could have worked a good job while she was trying to figure out what she really wanted to do.
I read an interesting article about the intellectual glass ceiling that it’s usually generalists that often have more success in later life compared to individuals raised as child prodigies like Lynn which I felt was partly the reason she couldn’t settle down and because there’s so much pressure exerted on oneself to excel eventually you burn up even if though the series didn’t make it obvious about Lynn, I always felt it was subtly hinted in the show.
Yeah… unfortunately it depends on what masters degree Lynn was even doing in the first place. Some degrees are useless, and do not guarantee a career that one can earn 6 figure income.
The way she bootlegged Maya’s books and having the nerve to not want to work to pay her parents back for her LOAN made me despise her character because there are a lot of entitled people like her who only care about how people can serve them and how they can suck them dry 😒
Lynn didn't wanna work a normal job and that's fine. But she kept going back and forth with herself and not really moving towards her passion she kept freezing up. She had a huge fear of being responsible and maintaining her success bc she never had to do that before. She didn't know how to handle it bc her parents spoiled her too much. Lynn wasn't a bad friend in every aspect but she struggled more than the average person just to take care of herself.
the way she treated her parents like villains for wanting her to get a job and pay them back the money she owed them for a vacation always annoyed me. i hated how they folded in the end, too. everybody babied her and that kinda enabled her behavior to continue. and maya shouldn’t have apologized to her after setting her straight in the bathroom. especially considering lynn had previously bootlegged her books and were making money off them while maya was completely struggling.
Lynn was so frustrating. So smart, with so much potential just for it to be wasted. However, I do feel like if Lynn had grown up in today's day and age, she would have been an influencer, lol.
Lynn was definitely one of those kids who grew up privileged and thinking the world owed her something like you said being lost or figuring out your passion is one thing but MY GOODNESS she didn't even want to work until she figured that out, AND YES I'm glad you spoke about her opening up credit cards in her friends names because that is where I would've had to put the paws on her now you're messing with peoples credit in the words of Maya OHH HELLL NOOOO lol the worst character
I loved Lynn, she differently had a lot of layers to her…she was a mess but she rode for her friends and was super loyal. I know some people say Lynn was lazy(she had way to many degrees for that, college is far from easy, lol 😂) but I feel she was more scared of the real world than anything else(even though she claimed to be a free spirit, she was infact still a little scared girl at heart) she knew her friend group would be there for her which both helped/didn’t. She could never fully push herself out of her comfort zone and often made excuses for herself because of that…she was truly a loss and confused soul. Lynn was a beautiful disaster!
Honestly, i could relate to Lynn but not to the point where she was leeching off people. Like you want to do everything but still unsure on that one particular area sorta thing lol
Yes which is what I said I understand like girl it’s understandable to be figuring out your passion, career etc. but not mooching off of people and refusing to work
Same, I have changed career paths and got so many licenses and certifications only to work remotely and travel without staying in one place even 6 months… I get Lynn to a certain extent but as a free-spirit, there’s more freedom in not being dependent on people.
I was really happy that they had a character like lynn, I think all the gfs had flaws that makes you like them or hate them. I love all of them because they gave insight to everyone and they can relate to!
Lynn definitely took advantage of Joan’s hospitality. She literally lived in Joan’s house for eight years and had the audacity to try to make Joan feel bad when she finally had enough of her being a leech and after sneaking Vasco in behind Joan’s back. Then she quit the corporate job. She got to pay her parents back the loan when her birth mother Sandy came to town. Lynn was just messy child 😂
I like how you said it's understandable to not have everything all figured out and still going after your dreams regardless of age but still needing to have a job it doesn't mean you work there forever it's just a temporary job, we all did it/do it until we enter our dream jobs or passions and because Lynn had so many people she could lean on it enabled her behavior. Did she even pay her parents back? Did she ever make use of the 5 degrees she had? No. They thought Joan and Toni needed therapy if you ask me Lynn needed it the most
That Grinch clip has me in tears lmaoooooo because it’s so relevant to Lynn like girl the AUDACITY!!! People talk about Toni but Lynn was a user who didn’t care about others as long as she was getting something. They babied her and Maya was the baby of the group I couldn’t stand her a$$ especially crashing Maya panel like that * Had to add Lynn bringing Vosco into Joan’s home and not telling her was not only disrespectful but also dangerous considering she didn’t know this man and his intentions
Yes Lynn was terrible, but I disagree that she had no growth at all. It took a long time for her to grow but she did. In season 7, she was working very hard on her music and Joan and Maya had the nerve to slam her for getting hired to hype up a karaoke club. She had not been mooching off of them for a while and William was the only one that gave her credit for that and doing what she could to pursue her dreams. If you think about it, Lynn was completely on her own for that. Joan had William’s help and money for her restaurant (would have failed without him) and Maya’s book would not have been a success if not for Ronnie handing it out to his customers. Lynn hustled on her own and I respect her for that at least.
As someone who loved Lynn. This is something i wasn't sure i would watch. But i did and it gave me a different lense to view her character so thank you.
All she did was use people but because she wasn't mean she doesn't get the negative backlash like Toni she was user and had no problem using and even stealing from them. she disgusted me and the Toy's R us commercial took me back to the 90s!!! omg the nostalgia 😩 come on full moon instrumental. I love how you use her instrumentals. I know a Brandy fan when I see one lol
Lynn knew she was a leach and a user. Remember when she was dating the guy from Jamaica and had that waitress job and got mad at her boyfriend for not working, and not helping pay the bills?? She was clearly using her friends.
Finally someone calls out Lynn for being a leech. I also have a younger brother who is just like Lynch. He was always asking me for money and even stayed at my place for free for weeks until I finally got his own place. He was just as entitled as Lynn and thought that I owed him something just because I was his sister. My own family coddled him just like Lynn’s parents coddled her for the longest. I was even told by my mother and uncle that it’s my responsibility to take care of a grown man. It took my mom years to finally stop coddling him. He lived a very reckless life and made the worst decisions and my family and I always had to come in and save him. I had to start setting boundaries with him, kick him out, and stop giving him money just for him to grow up. That’s why I didn’t like Lynn. She reminded me of my brother.
This is very common in black families they always coddle the boys and then the girls take on almost all responsibilities from a very young age, cooking, cleaning and being the second parent, they don't care about black girls/women feelings or how they're just a kid as well. They just see another person who can help take care of the men. This is why we have so many selfish men because they're taught from a very young age their feelings matter more than others. they're more important and that BW must bow down to them and serve them. I'm so happy our women are finally realizing this and putting themselves first, I'm glad you set boundaries with him and that should've never been your responsibility in the first place
This is nothing new in the black community. People always make excuses for black males and coddle them throughout their lives. Black girls/women unfortunately don't have the same advantage.
You know honestly it’s very common that BM are coddled ( just to grow up and be selfish b u m s ) and bw have to grow up quicker. I’m glad you’re choosing you first now 🩷 as you should
i was really rooting for lynn because she seemed to be pretty resourceful and was a supportive friend, but she just always seemed lost. i understand sometimes we struggle to find our niche in life, but with her it felt like she was just comfortable with using her friends. i’m on season 6 right now, and as you mentioned, she’s really the only girlfriend that has grown the least.
I have a love and hate relationship with Lynn. She was extremely beautiful but she was a bum. I wish we seen character growth with her character but the writers didn’t do anything until the end of the show which was a shame. I remember when she a street robot😂😂😂 and would talk until her friends tipped her lmaoo. Remember her and Williams one episode fling lol..I hope you do an analysis of Williams character he was sooo funny and extremely underrated. I hope Joan is next!
I don't like the mooching ways but I felt her. She didn't know what she wanted and she tried so many things. I'm that way, my personality is ENFP. I love doing new things but I get bored quickly and it leads to depression when you feel stuck. Everyone doesn't feel satisfied with their life so I get her point. Just no mooching.
I'm only about 30 seconds in, and you confirmed my suspicion that you were from NY. I heard the accent in the Toni Childs video and that accent does not lie 😂! We got that same weather in the Chi! I also felt like you might be a Taurus too, because of what you said about cutting people off. They got one time and that's it ♉️!!
Right like what do you have to add? some people have serious entitlement issues and behave like children when they aren't apart of everything their friends/family do, I get being a little upset because you weren't apart of the panel but she lashed out like a child and attempted to ruin Maya's seminar typical selfish behavior
I really enjoyed this video. As a kid when Girlfriends was on air I think Lynn was a funny character . Now as an adult I thought she was terrible. It’s sad she never grew all those seasons. It’s also interesting how I I’ve had a few Lynn’s in my life. As I grew I began distancing myself from them, because as much as I love helping and seeing my friends thrive, I can’t consistently put myself in disarray for them.
Girrllll I was going to say the same thing notice they made Toni a "gold digger" who didn't deserve her equal or better but Lynn is the free spirit, carefree woman who everyone coddles and babies and try to make the audience feel sorry for her and hate Toni
I feel like frankly it’s specifically the fact she was literally raised to be White. She absolutely has light skinned privilege, but she also was raised not to think of herself as Black, and with like no Black people around her, and no Black girl friends until she meets her friends in college. The way she even talks to her parents/her dad is such rich White girl behavior. It’s the infantalizing, manipulative, ooh poor me behaviour is very white girl socialisation. I know lots of mixed girls who would never act like Lynn 😂, but the ones I know like that usually have a very strong internal sense of their Blackness. Lynn ain’t got that at all.
I actually like the depiction of a black woman who is entitled, indecisive, and just wrong. The entire main cast from Girls is just as bad, but we understand that. Plus, by the end of the series Lynn’s character became somewhat Flanderized, where some her character traits (laziness, mooching) became her only traits. It’s understandably unpleasant to watch, but maybe that was the point. Mara Brock-Akil has said that when we only present ourselves as black people in this impossibly positive light, it’s over correcting.
Someone once said Lynn could have multiple sources of income or a steady stream of money. She could make documentaries, make Jewelry, book gigs singing. She has so much creativity but she is so freaking lazy and it’s exhausting. Girlfriends is a fun show but I will admit that show aged like milk. It’s a product of its time and the friend group is giving me the same vibes Penny’s friends give me. What is it with predominantly black female characters having a toxic friendship. I also can’t help but feel like the writers had an obsession with humbling these women. Any time something was going good they had to mess it up.
I like Lynn and yeah she was wasting her potential and was mooching off of her friends but, she represents a person we don't see often. A lost, free spirited Black girl who doesn't have it all together. As Black women we have to be strong and have everything in order because we carry other people and our community on our back so we have no choice but to have our stuff together. Also with things like Black girl magic and Black excellence their is a pressure to be "perfect" almost something like a model minority type of thing. Lynn knew everything she wasn't. She wasn't a corporate sit at a desk job type of person. But, she had so many positive attributes and strengths and she didn't believe in herself enough. She didn't trust herself enough to be self sufficient and take a chance. She really needed to unpack this stuff in therapy because that is what was holding her back self doubt and things possibly connected to her childhood. I don't think she was mooching because she was an evil person but because she truly didn't believe she could make it on her own and be successful in her own right that's why she kept going from job to job, interests to interests and man to man, she just didn't think she could make anything work. Lynn is my favorite character and I think they made her character so lazy and bummy because it was a running gag for laughs and a source of jokes for future episodes and seasons but Lynn could have done some great things.
Admittedly, to hear that she didn't even stick with the music thing (especially since Persia, in real life, is a singer-songwriter),.broke my heart because it felt like she was truly passionate with it. From hanging with Finn to performing on stages, it just felt like that was the one that would send her on her way the most because nothing else ever truly stuck. It's fair that she just wanted to be a free spirit, as most would pick up, but even free spirits have to have some air of responsibility.
You should have talked about how she became the property manager for the apartment complex Maya was living in. That was quite possibly her most stable career. Secondly, it was William's wife who encouraged her to get with or stay with music. She also had a brief stint working in a tax office. She was scamming them for birthday money.
That was my main issue with Maya. The way they wrote some of her “jokes” were straight insults to her friends. In real life, she would be seen as a frenemy
I relate to Lynn and her free spirit granted I’m not that free sexually. Lynn was on apt with Joan and Toni interns of education but she never did anything with herself. I thought we were doing something with documentaries but no. I thought she was doing something with music but I’m not sure how that would’ve ended. I still love Lynn though!
I feel like if they did a series Lynn would be a pothead that’s too smart for her own good but can’t seem to reach her fullest potential. Lynn reminds me so much of myself. I just don’t have the wonderful friendships she has and I actually go to work 😅
I never noticed but you are right 😅 she was such a freeloader , I feel like the writers didn't know what to do Lynn character , she was lost soul who keep searching for her purpose idk. They could do better I mean she wasn't dumb she got a degrees a master degree but still don't know which career path she chooses. Her character did get boring after a while she didn't have any growth just jumping to relationships 🙄 like that. The writers screwed up her character .
To the uploader, feel better my fellow NY'er. As for lynn.. i think she was a more worse friend than toni. However, as an adult watching, Lynn was a prime example of mental health illness. She didnt like being alone, always needed someone, & didnt like to handle her real problems head on. Her character is comical but i think thats to hide her depressed side. If a reboot occurs, i promise yall lynn will be the mental illness friend.
You def gotta do a synopsis and analysis on Joan Clayton since you already did the others! And give it a blue background in the thumbnail since I think that's the color that best suits her!!!
I think I understand Joan letting her stay for 8 years. It seems like one of those scenarios where it starts off reasonable and you kinda don’t realize how long it’s been/you feel bad up until something happens. Like her bringing the man to live with them probably broke the cycle that she had already accepted.
One thing I didn’t understand with Lynn you forgot to mention is the different side jobs she had being that paparazzi job, then being that street robot and working at the writing place with Mya. Hell she was even Mya’s Agent Assistant! I mean pick a job. Plus making music with that awkward guy. I could never wrap that around my head 5 degrees and couldn’t get excuse me keep a job. Never even had a place of her own either, plus couldn’t keep a relationship for nothing , not even with a the dog Bosko.
And then she wonders why no one took her seriously. I don’t like how Maya spoke to Lynn the second time at her seminar at all, but the fact is she had a point. Lynn was getting way too old to continue the behavior she was doing: the leeching, the random, stupid “jobs”, the sleeping with multiple people, I mean come on. To be doing that in your mid 30s is unacceptable. People kept lecturing her about it and every single time she would get mad at them and that’s really not fair. She lived with every single one of them at some point!!!!!
LEAST favorite character of them all and I’ll d.i.e on that hill 😂 And her music career was terrible, the documentary film maker phase made more sense cause she couldn’t sing lol 😭
You know what… I can’t watch some of these shows nomore without noticing so much toxicity.. they always demonized the real friends and the good friends… but maturity is realizing Joan was a real friend and needed better ones … I realize they always end up at Joan house wen stuff hit the fan … I did not like Lynn wen I was a kid she made me realize never to be that person
I use to think she was the least problematic and after watching this I retract my statement. Enjoying your commentary by the way. Random, may I know what software you use to edit?
What frustrated me about Lynn is that her character kept going in circles. Every time you thought “Okay, she’s going to finally grow and find her true passions” NOPE. YES to all of this! I got tired of waiting for her to get it together chile lol
I feel like that’s true but she was so woke . Like she understood that it was “required” of her to get a degree to be successful- because that’s what everyone tells you . Lynn Is the classic case of the Jack of all trades but master of none.

She should’ve just become a teacher that way she could’ve stayed in school indefinitely. 😂
I was just thinking that. She should've pursued a PHD
Lol right problem solved😂. She was always preaching about some topic and cause anyway so might as well make that a career 😂
@@TheAncestors1738 I thought at least on of her courses was. Phd? She just didn’t use them and bummed off her friends 😂
Lynn was so frustrating. So smart, with so much potential just for it to be wasted. However, I do feel like if Lynn had grown up in today's day and age, she would have been an influencer, lol.

I love Lynn’s fashion 🥰🥰 but she was a freeloader she had all of them degrees and couldn’t do anything with it 😭😭😭😭😭
Lynn took advantage of Joane for years but was never there for her when Joanne needed that loyalty back.

girl I’m glad you brought up the panel episode!!! anyways great video as always feel better soon :)
Right like what do you have to add? some people have serious entitlement issues and behave like children when they aren't apart of everything their friends/family do, I get being a little upset because you weren't apart of the panel but she lashed out like a child and attempted to ruin Maya's seminar typical selfish behavior
@@stacyr4768 uhm no lol apples to oranges
I saw the title and immediately liked😭😭😭
I really enjoyed this video. As a kid when Girlfriends was on air I think Lynn was a funny character . Now as an adult I thought she was terrible. It’s sad she never grew all those seasons. It’s also interesting how I I’ve had a few Lynn’s in my life. As I grew I began distancing myself from them, because as much as I love helping and seeing my friends thrive, I can’t consistently put myself in disarray for them.
These all were so good!! Can’t wait for Joan and William!! 😄😄
I think Lynn got away with a lot because she’s racially ambiguous….A mono racial Black woman couldn’t get away with the things she got away with 🤷🏾♀️
Girrllll I was going to say the same thing notice they made Toni a "gold digger" who didn't deserve her equal or better but Lynn is the free spirit, carefree woman who everyone coddles and babies and try to make the audience feel sorry for her and hate Toni
Agreed!
FACTS
Literally!!!!
Love these break downs! You need to do Issa and Molly from insecure. I feel like Issa was similar to Lynn with her wanting Molly to take care of her
Did we watch the same show? 😂
Shot out Full Moon instrumental in the back. ✨ Aaayyyyeeee
*Lynn was my favorite.*
Even as a kid watching this show i knew lynn was a mf mooch like girl you got all these degrees but cant keep a job to save your life??? Crazzyyy
I agree with some of your points, but I think it's important to mention that Lynn is biracial.
I really hate how they wrote her character with no development. I really wish they would’ve wrote her some development at the end.
I was happy when they allowed Lynn’s style to evolve. In the beginning she looked so dirty and unkempt.
Please do Joan next. I love her but she drove me crazyyyy letting everyone walk all over her!!
Joan was my favorite but she really did let her friends walk all over her and take advantage of her good heart. I hated Maya the most though
Lynn is my favorite character 😂
Yeahl she ran in circles 😂😂😂😂😂😂 she and Denise huxtable would have been besties
Admittedly, to hear that she didn't even stick with the music thing (especially since Persia, in real life, is a singer-songwriter),.broke my heart because it felt like she was truly passionate with it. From hanging with Finn to performing on stages, it just felt like that was the one that would send her on her way the most because nothing else ever truly stuck. It's fair that she just wanted to be a free spirit, as most would pick up, but even free spirits have to have some air of responsibility.
I liked all of them but she was my fave she's was the wild sprit
You should have talked about how she became the property manager for the apartment complex Maya was living in. That was quite possibly her most stable career. Secondly, it was William's wife who encouraged her to get with or stay with music. She also had a brief stint working in a tax office. She was scamming them for birthday money.
It was nasty when will n lynn hook up n it was nasty when joan hook up with him lol..
She really had no shame in being a bum! 😂😂😂
10:06 Maya gave her friends the biggest lowblows abd got awat with it
That was my main issue with Maya. The way they wrote some of her “jokes” were straight insults to her friends. In real life, she would be seen as a frenemy
When was talking to dog when Bosco was leaving . Saying he pack those bags every 2 wks r something like that lol
.
William was my fav girlfriend, them other heifers were toxic
He was toxic too. Controlling with Yvonne and a straight asshole to Monica after basically stalking her to get her back
I relate to Lynn and her free spirit granted I’m not that free sexually. Lynn was on apt with Joan and Toni interns of education but she never did anything with herself. I thought we were doing something with documentaries but no. I thought she was doing something with music but I’m not sure how that would’ve ended. I still love Lynn though!
Damn lynn mama was ACTING 😭
I feel like if they did a series Lynn would be a pothead that’s too smart for her own good but can’t seem to reach her fullest potential. Lynn reminds me so much of myself. I just don’t have the wonderful friendships she has and I actually go to work 😅
I agree with EVERYTHING YOU SAID!!! 💯
I never noticed but you are right 😅 she was such a freeloader , I feel like the writers didn't know what to do Lynn character , she was lost soul who keep searching for her purpose idk. They could do better
I mean she wasn't dumb she got a degrees a master degree but still don't know which career path she chooses. Her character did get boring after a while she didn't have any growth just jumping to relationships 🙄 like that. The writers screwed up her character .
Honestly lynn was portraying her half karen behavior😂 The entitlement is something else with her
To the uploader, feel better my fellow NY'er.
Please complete this series! Please!
Lynne was trifling.
It’s better for you to go home then to not have luggage lmao Im😂
I would love a video on mona thorne!
You def gotta do a synopsis and analysis on Joan Clayton since you already did the others! And give it a blue background in the thumbnail since I think that's the color that best suits her!!!
I agree, however I think she was spot on because most of us have had a friend like Lynn in real life
Time for Joan. I got some things to get off mu chest about the character😤
It Appears the issue lies is no character development. Blame the writers for that one
Okay but Lynn did become an apartment manager tho 😂
I was annoyed during her scenes as a child too
are u gonna do a video about her style?
She bootlegged Maya’s book and then wanted to be on her panel discussion??
Ngl, it’s so many people like this and they irritate my soul
Dang I just got into this series I’m so sad it’s ending already
I love your channel so much x
I was waiting for this video
Willam made the show!!!! Without him the show would’ve been boring
I know pple like her in real life
I think I understand Joan letting her stay for 8 years.
Joan was the main person to enable Lynn.
These memes lol i can't 😅
R when she was hiding n mya room n her new house calling it lynn music room..r something like that smh lol..
I know a Lynn, he is my uncle. Lazy and gambles. Well .... He is worst than Lynn. At least Lynn had at least a degree.
My least favourite character. Trash.
LEAST favorite character of them all and I’ll d.i.e on that hill 😂 And her music career was terrible, the documentary film maker phase made more sense cause she couldn’t sing lol 😭
3:16 4 Degrees with 2 Bachelors you don’t even use
The Maths is Definitely not Adding Up
And yo Ars is still broke AF
Are you going to do a Joan vid?
3:56 Nicole Richie's story 😂😂😂😂😂
You know what… I can’t watch some of these shows nomore without noticing so much toxicity.. they always demonized the real friends and the good friends… but maturity is realizing Joan was a real friend and needed better ones … I realize they always end up at Joan house wen stuff hit the fan … I did not like Lynn wen I was a kid she made me realize never to be that person
When she had that fught party smh lol
YES to all of this
Lynn would have to go! Bringing some random man that neither y’all know nothing about into Joan’s home, idgaf. That’s just wrong.
I use to think she was the least problematic and after watching this I retract my statement. Enjoying your commentary by the way. Random, may I know what software you use to edit?
I thought you forgot about this upload 🥹 Lynn really was the worst girlfriend. They enabled her too much as a grown woman.
Wait Lynn was I. Joan’s house for 8yrs damn
What about Lynn in the later seasons, she did get it together.
