- The Duke carries on as is his wont whilst Rigoletto shows his brokenhearted and confused daughter the truth of the Duke's philandering ways.. The cad!
One of the more accessible pieces of opera from one of the few operas I managed to actually get into.
Not least becuse the refrain of La Donna e Mobile sounds like "Elephants, Yeah!" but I digress :-P
Pavarotti in this opera - he is not human, he is like a perfect musical instrument! Bravo Pavarotti! Bravo!

Alot of Italians have so much talent in so many different categories:Singing, dancing, cooking, acting, the works.
+John Avenger True, but you do realize that the ladies here are not Italians, right? Edita Gruberova is Slovak and Victoria Vergara is Chilean, but studied in the US in Philadelphia Academy of Vocal Arts and in Juilliard. (edited to add) Oh, and I totally forgot, the baritone, Rigoletto, is sung by Ingvar Wixell who is Swedish.
+jewelmarkess that does not change the fact that Italians are talented people :D
zura iashvili True.
@@zuraiashvili8647 It shows that there are talented people in the whole world. :)

Il più bel quartetto della lirica....grande Verdi!!
Si: Granfe Verdi!
I was 10 years old when my music teacher showed this to me, then she took us to a live adaptation of the oprea and I fell more in love. But this version will always steal my heart.
My story is similar to yours although I didn't come to fully appreciate opera in general and Pavarotti's mad skills here specifically until much later.
Im always amazed at Pavarottis voice It was so damn beautiful!!!!
Agreed!
Luciano's rendition of "La Donna E Mobile" is a classic.
"You are correct, sir!" - Ed McMahon to Johnny Carson
grande quartetto, grande PAVAROTTI , chissa se la lirica trovera' un degno successore ; Verdi e Puccini i piu' GRANDI E COMPLETI COMPOSITORI LIRICI DI SEMPRE
I am in complete agreement. Who can top this apex-level performance?
This is the pinnacle of operatic ensembles. And the pinnacle of performance and filming. Superb.
Agreed. Apparently Italian made for TV adaptations of operas are produced to a higher standard than TV adaptations in the USA. I mean, I THINK this was a made-for-TV production. But either way, yeah, what you said: The pinnacle of performance and filming.
Pavarotti und Gruberova ... einfach genial ^^
Agreed!
Pavarotti: 100% dope and performing "La Donna e Mobile" from Rigoletto (1982) in full apex-mode. Thanks, TMO!
Beautyfull voices!
Agreed.
Yes! FYI On an off chance you don't know, the names of the other singers in this movie version of Rigoletto are Ingvar Wixell, Edita Gruberova, Victoria Vergara, Ferluccio Furlanetto. Also, at one point I saw the full movie here, someone uploaded it. I am not sure if it's still here.
Absolutely stunning. Miss him a lot.
@LastHussar: I know, right? I say this with regret as my interest in opera didn't fully bloom until after his passing so never saw him perform live. And as William S. Burroughs wrote, "Nothing left now but the recordings." Ah, but such recordings! So yeah, what you said: Stunning.
@@michaelkottlerSame. Before the age of about... 18, I was a complete philistine. Now, I can't listen to pop music for more than about 20 minutes. It could never reach the depths that this kind of music and singing does.
He really BECAME the Duke of Mantua here.
You know, he really did.
Too beautiful....soooooo dramatic.......a real life story......the betrayal......😢😢😢😢.....fabulous everything 👍♥️♥️👍
Thank you so much for this! I’m starting to fall in Love with opera and would like to have translated into English. I can’t believe I’ve missed out on such beautiful music for years! I guess better late than never.
Just learn Italian and save the trouble 😊😊
Rigoletto has been my favorite opera music for decades. A family member gave me a video of it with subtitles. The story line is so dark and despicable I never want to read it again. Just listen to the the gorgeous music.
@@bobrussell8339 How can you say you don't want to understand the lyrics anymore? It's part of the beauty. Like, the fact that every character is expressing very different feelings in this quartetto but the music keeps beautiful. The lyrics are important too
@@bobrussell8339 Bob, you are sad. I hope you end up in hospital with a disease.

Grazie Luciano the world is indebted to you......
So say we all.
Spettacolare, meraviglioso.
Indeed!
Listening and listening to this performance of "Bella figlia dell'amore"' I am increasingly convinced of the truly transcendental nature of Pavarotti's same performance on the piece but with Sutherland...
You are correct, sir!
É maravilhoso demais!!! Devo ter ouvido umas dezenas de vezes. Perfeito! Esplêndido! Bravo 👏👏👏👏👏
A dozen times? May one safely assume that by now it's 120 times or more? :)
Bravo
Oh my God 🙏 so beautiful a performance just beautiful ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ what great singers. Even the angles in heaven were crying and happy at the same time.....
Maravillosas voces ,e interpretación.Gracias, gracias , gracias.
Absolutely, although some of the English translation seems incorrect as in not quite a literal (or even appropriately figurative at certain points) translation but the overall meaning of the libretto remains intact.
Gruberova at her best.
Magnifico
Damn straight.
grande!!! no me canso de oírlo,,, los 4 magníficos
Absolutely
Спасибо!👍👍💐💐🌿🌹🌿🇦🇲
Yes: Thank you, tmo!
Absolutely beautiful !!!
Thank you for posting
Agreed: Thanks, TMO! (Too Much Opera? Truly Terrific Opera? Or what?)
В экранизации этой оперы меня поразил артистизм Паваротти. Он не только великий тенор, но и великий артист. И красивый мужчина)

Es kann nur Einen geben ..... grandios !!!!
100% agreed: Pavarotti is the sh-t!
haha the "elephants yeah" observation is hilarious
This sould be the national anthem of Italy
No thanks we will keep Fratelli d'Italia, its about our reunification but I do unserstand why you said this...
Oh, it isn't?
1982 is mijn geboorte datum 🤣😂🌹🎼🎶🎵
So does that make you Gen Y, or...? But yeah: Lucky you, a child of the 80's. Nice.

Pavarotti as the Duke of Manuta, my city ❤
That's 100% Kool and the Gang.
Wonderful ♥️♥️♥️
Indeed!
Awesome!!!
THE BEST!!!!
True that!
Such a master of his art
Totally
Scenically, this is a masterpiece - look at their facial expressions while they sing. Impressive, considering that Opera is SUNG THEATER and here they are excelling at it 😍😍😍
Oh, are they? ;)
💖💖💖💖
Now with Sub, the song is more interesting. Thank a lot.
I was promised English subtitles!
This video does appear to have English subs.
E come non ricordare il battesimo del Melandri con gli altri 4 bischeri a fare da coro.... Pavarotti è un mito, come Amici Miei del resto!

Chi sono gli altri interpreti?
Where did you get this recording from. I would like to see this version of Rigoletto.
I put the subs on myself with VirtualDub ... I can probably dump it somewhere online if you give me day or two
if you type in Giuseppe Verdi - Rigoletto - Pavarotti, Gruberova, Wixell - Chailly
into the search on youtube, you will find it

Woman is fickle Like a feather in the wind She changes her voice And her mind Always a lovely Graceful face In tears or in laughter She's always lying Woman is fickle Like a feather in the wind She changes her voice And her mind And her mind And her mind He who trusts her Is always miserable He who confides in her Has a reckless heart But he never feels Completely happy Resting on that bosom He doesn't sip love Woman is fickle Like a feather in the wind She changes her voice And her mind And her mind And her mind
You do know the plot of the full opera, right?
It's interesting to note the many variances possible when translating this from Italian to English.
Il Duca disse: "Tua sorella e del vino". Altroché!
That playa shit
Kenny from Southpark killed this shit
Finally someone makes a South Park reference regarding Kenny's skilled operatic performance(s)!
The name of the soprano, please.

Is this is a movie ? Want to watch but i don't know
Bishnu, you can get this on CD
Yes it is a movie directed by Jean-Pierre Ponnelle
Yes. It's a 1982 movie version of opera Rigoletto by Giuseppe Verdi. The movie director is Jean-Pierre Ponnelle as manolis.799 mentioned. If you search here for "Rigoletto Ponnelle", you'll find it, someone uploaded the full movie.

Leo Nucci just isn't powerful enough! I much prefer Ingvar Wixell. I also (I know it's probably sacrilege to say it), but I also like Gruberova better; I was never really a Sutherland fan.

What the song says may be true but men lire MORE and are a lot more deceitful than woman!
We can all be this way.
What the song says may be true but men lie MORE and are a lot more deceitful than woman!
We can all be this way.
But I am the exception!
What you say about men lying more is very appropriate here considering that the is the one who seduces virgins and married women then dumps them.
highly debatable...
I personally find this song very ironic, perhaps on purpose ;) . He's the fickle one here. And remember that Gilda is the only true and innocent character here.
Sorry, stop living in that romantic Schopenhawer ilusion that women is a beautifull princes... Studies proff that women are weirds than mens ( i think is that how i write ) , if you want, i could pass those sociological studies
