Almost creepy how well timed this video release is....Noticed my pass side wasn't staying locked just 2 days ago and I was wondering how to fix. Awesome job FM as usual ! (Btw 300k miles on my 03NB2...EVERYTHING still works perfectly!) Holy COW !! I just hopped on your website...$65 for this little aluminum part is a bit much no? Considering it's the same price as a WATER PUMP !.....dang guys.
Well, water pumps are made by the thousands with aluminum castings and the BP water pump production was paid off years ago. Machined billet costs a lot more per unit but it's possible to make smaller volume parts like these - the economics aren't there to cast them.
@@Newokie59 Was looking for replacement latches. saw how expensive they are for just a small piece of metal. Now I'm just going to drill into my worn latches and insert a screw to fix the problem.
You won't regret paying for these! Not only do they save you from buying new top latches, they work BETTER than the OEM part. These are one of the best things I've ever bought for my car and the video makes it easy for even a mechanical klutz like me to install.
Originally watched the video because my passenger-side hardtop latch wouldn't stay closed. I ordered a pair of the red ones. The video made doing the swap effortless. I still need to loctite the set screws, but I am VERY happy with the new latches. They are better than new!
Hi Mike. Hope you see this. I purchased a hard top yesterday, and whilst driving home both the latches popped open on the motorway. Did this stop yours from popping open?
Just installed and thx for the video. The passenger side clicks shut but only if I click the driver’s side shut first. Would loosening or tightening the set screw on the passenger side remedy this?
This sounds like your latches themselves may not be aligned or adjusted properly and the set screw may not help in this situation. Sometimes the socket that attaches to the windshield frame can be off. You might try loosening everything, closing the top, then tightening down the latches and socket. Give our customer support team a call if you have any questions!
I have a set of top latches that the nubs are gone on, it seals water out, but even at its tightest adjustment they still allow air to enter through the roof seal around 60 mph. Would these fix my issue?
If the lock mechanism on the latch isn't working, your top may not stay securely closed at speed, so it's important that the full latch functions correctly.
So sorry you are having issues with these! Would you please reach out to our customer support team directly? Your latch plates could be worn to the point that these latches aren't catching, or there could be other issues that might cause them not to completely lock. Our team would be happy to help you find the issue. Please call 970-464-5600 M-F 8-5 Mountain time, or drop them an email at support@flyinmiata.com. @FlyinMiataVideo i think maybe my latches aren't oem. Because putting the worn out one back on and off multiple times was easy and the mechanism went up and down fine.
Any cross-shaped screw from Mazda is going to be JIS. In our experience, JIS drivers give a more secure seat even on Philips. The screws that come with the rebuild kit have a hex head.
Guess what the little screw adjusted with the Allen key gets loose, and even though from start the lock it’s pretty weak. $68 dollars waisted. No thanks.
Just did this today after receiving my kit. I will add, Thank you for adding in the 4" black Flyin Miata decal when you guys didn't have to.
You're welcome!
Finally a good solution to this problem! I'm excited to try these myself, they look like fantastic quality.

New latches are $250 a pair! For $65 I can renew my latches, and these are adjustable.

Thank you guys for this kit! Saved me from buying new latches! Easy to install and they work great!
Thanks! Glad it helped! :)
Bought them, followed these instructions-- worked great, much improved and so easy
Glad you like them!
I ordered the red ones as soon as I saw the email yesterday.
Y’all need to sell those FM Labcoats.
PLEASE MORE ERIC!!!!!!! ERIC ERIC ERIC. Seriously have him do more videos he's so relaxing to listen to

@@CoreyWBaker it’s definitely a wear item. The new latches need to be adjusted, but they absolutely prevent what you experienced!
I would never have been able to figure out how to install these without Professor Bullshit. Thanks!
You definitely did the easier of the two sides. Those springs are a pain in the ass
Cool idea. And nice labcoat, Keith!
Nice. Ill be doing mine in the up and coming months.
Seems like the Top Latch Rebuild Kit is out of stock?

Thanks !! any video with NC model? My mx-5 top latch is broken and i can't open the top and attach!!
can they be used for side latches?
Yes, they should be compatible with hard top side latches. Give our customer support team a shout if you have any questions!
Ok so how much? And where do you get them?

You’re probably looking for new top caps.
What is the thread spec for the set screws? Both of the screws vibrated loose while I had the roof in the down position and now I can't find them.
Please reach out to our customer support team directly via phone or email. They should be able to get that info for you.
If that little "lock tab" doesn't function, is it a safety concern?

@@FlyinMiataVideo Thank you for the answer. Fortunately I now know where to buy AND how to install it!
So I did this and only one of the two latches serviced locks, any ideas? Both were repaired identically to the video

We haven't had this issue, but it would probably be a good idea to put a little loctite on the adjustment screw once you know where you want it.
