And as some mentioned, this bridge exists in real life in a town called Naruto, and this town is also famous for its whirlpools (uzumaki from japanese) that appear in its waters near the bridge. If I'm not mistaken, this bridge also has a similar history too. Also, Haku did the same with Sasuke as he did with Zabuza - he just put Sasuke in a near-death state because he couldn't bring himself to kill him.
