I think allowing your kid to truly be a kid is more valuable than people realize. I admire you for prioritizing that over perfection (while still teaching responsibility) it will serve her better in the long run. I’m still trying as an adult to overcome the perfectionist standards that were required in my home growing up.

Your daughters room reminds me of my own when I was her age. Lol. Thankfully I’m not this messy anymore but throwing things for me as a child was very difficult because I was and still am so sentimental. Great job mama ❤

This is the first video I found yours and the first thing I thought "oh it's not just my daughter".
Ours got the nickname Hurricane as soon as she was old enough to walk because of how she leaves a room.
She's now eight and her room is on going headache for her as well as us; plus an ever growing horde of Squishmallows!
After watching so many other motherhood vlogs over the years, it was comforting to see another child's room like this.

My toddler who just turned 4 just started 4k on wed. He was so ready and excited to go and has loved it! On the first day when I picked him up I asked him if he was sad when I left and he said yeah I cried. Then he said “mommy I love you hard, I love you hard right here” and pointer to his heart. Omg I cried!!! He is so sweet sometimes.

My oldest son was always messy, too. And he is an adult now in his own house, and he is still messy! But. He is very kind, hard working, has a huge heart, and has a good career. To me, that is the most important. He always had chores too and knows how to clean, at least! ❤

One thing I’ll say is that it’s such a good sign that she wants your help and welcomes it bc true hoarders don’t want anyone touching their space or cleaning it. My niece’s room is AWFUL, like no one even goes in there it’s that bad. She gets so upset if anyone even mentions cleaning it out. It’s hard. These mom cleans are a great way to show you love your kids (acts of service). It can be overwhelming for kids, but like I said-I love that she welcomes these cleans/declutters with open arms.
Edit to add: Thank you for answering my question. 😊♥️ My husband was the oldest of the bunch, and he thrived (September baby). My 4 year old just turned 4 in May, so I’m keeping her but she loves to learn, too. I agree, she has the next 2 decades to be in school so I’m going to enjoy our last year together. 🥲

Happy anniversary! The room looks great. No judgement here. My son's room was always a mess. As a teenager I just left it alone. The only thing I asked was to keep food out of his room, because we had a mouse in there once. When he felt like cleaning his room, he did a great job.

I know when you’re on UA-cam there’s a lot of people that give you a lot of negative feedback, but how we raise our children and how we want to do parenting is our business. It’s Your business how you want to do your parenting and there is nothing wrong at all with the way that you parent I think it is so sweet of you as a mom to go in your daughters bedroom and help her out by redoing it and giving her a new space, I’m just like you I’ve clean my kids room a lot. I add my touch to it and there is nothing wrong with that at all and people should keep comments negative comments to themselves anyways, you’re doing a great job as a mom don’t let anybody ever ever tell you differently you do you that is good enough

  • @xradelox
    @xradelox 11 місяців тому +4

You seem like a great mom and your kids look very happy, which is super important. I just wanted to pass on some tips I used as a kid to keep things tidy, because habits we form as kids will follow us into adulthood, and you can imagine a person having a whole house that looks like the before shot of her room (just watch the show Hoarders, many of them started out as messy kids with lots of sentimental attachments to items and then when something traumatic happened in their life, it pushed them into full blown hoarding). People with houses that messy/dirty are more likely to have issues with landlords and pests and illnesses. I’ve seen it time and again. So while her being happy is super important, she also needs to understand that keeping her surroundings clean and neat is important too, not only for her physical health but also for her mental health. If she’s ever at a point in her life where she has to deal with depression (or maybe her future spouse has depression) then keeping a clean home will be extremely hard for her. So if she can learn as a child to build habits that keep her surroundings neat and clean (doesn’t have to be perfect) then she’ll be avoiding a lot of stress as an adult. Since she has a problem with trash, why not put a trash can in her room? Also a clothes hamper. That way those items are contained and not all over the floor.
I love these to go by:
There’s a place for every thing and everything has its place. When you’re finished with something, put it back in its home before you do anything else.
If you don’t make a mess, there’s no mess to clean. Working/playing/living in a way that doesn’t create a mess to begin with is a huge time saver. For example, a friend of mine had me help deep clean her house and we found a huge pile of toe nail clippings under the couch because her husband clipped his nails there and always shoved them between the seat cushions. So not only was that super gross, but we also had to spend time vacuuming it up. I clip mine over a small trash can. Since they go straight into the trash, I don’t have to vacuum them! Because I didn’t make a mess, there was no mess for me to have to clean up! 😄 That same logic can be applied in almost everything we do.
The less you have, the less you have to clean (I love this one since I can’t stand dusting Knick knacks 🤣).
Take five minutes once per day to speed-tidy the whole room. And that doesn’t mean shoving stuff under the bed. It should include getting stuff out from under furniture if there happens to be anything under there. You mentioned you guys like DIY stuff. Is there a way you could block off under her bed so she doesn’t even have the option of shoving stuff under it?
I she gets in the habit of 1) putting trash in her trash can, 2) dirty clothes in her hamper, 3) toys back in their place, and 5) does the “5 minute tidy up” every day, then you’ll never have to do this six hour marathon in her room again and she’ll be building cleanliness habits that will protect her from a lot of crap in her future. It’s so much easier to build good habits as a child than it is to tear down old habits and rebuild new ones as an adult ❤️
No judgement, I know everyone is different, I’m just hoping to help her and any other kids that are messy get ahold on it now so their future is brighter and mom’s life now is easier 😜

My bedroom is organized, meaning it's not cluttered. Many years ago, I had way too many empty squeeze bottles in my bedroom for example. I constantly downsized to 10 bottles that I still play with. I hope the problem was solved by having Adrienne's bedroom decluttered. I still love the round condiment squeeze bottles and round water squeeze bottles.

Hallo Ashley...

Also, we use labeled bins that help with picking up. It has taken A LOT of time and practice, but the difference in her ability to manage inventory is huge! Maybe these suggestions can help? Thank you. You help me want to get the mastered bedroom done. I had to move my office in there. Our mother n law took my office. So i am still trying to figure out how to make it a bedroom and office. I want it to look nice. Not cluttered. So thanks for the motivation I put my cleaning videos on the projector in my room and I watch and clean. It helps a lot. Kinda fun. too.

My 8 yr old girl is the same way. And I let it be. It's her space and if she likes it that way it's fine. I do deep cleans once a month or so.

I would recommend to make your daughter room more cozy. Hanging fake plants on walls perhaps and not shut windows with curtains. They tend to mess it up less when it looks nicer.

When you said hoarder and then broke out the bag I got worried, but I love that you're open to respecting their space & not coming from a place of frustration. :)
My grandma was a hoarder and my mom was the opposite who never wants to be attached to anything. I was like your daughter. Growing up between the two I can see how hoarding tendencies are & also how good some of those decluttering skills become as I get older. I found the channel A Hoarders Heart & her journey & I love the way she approaches her own hoarding with her kids. It all comes down to communication & making sure that what ppl see as trash isn't just tossed since it may mean stuff to us & if we feel it's going to be removed when we're gone, it's easy to start getting anxious & stashing things. Having her involved is super awesome! Maybe having a home for those paper scraps would be good so when they do their clean it's more about putting it away instead of just putting it down or having to get rid of it. She still has control & it's easier to visually manage when it starts to need attention.
Great work & love how empathetic you treat your family!

I can definitely see how it could only hurt a person by not respecting what they value! That’s why I never get upset with her room.. although it is exhausting haha but I really do think it made a huge difference by having her help. And she’s been keeping her room so much tidier now! 😊
      Thank you!! 🥰

SORRY FOR THE LONG COMMENT 🥺
I legitimately cried watching this video.
I'm going to be very real and transparent with you, this video made me cry for many reasons...
    1. The patience you had to not just to decide to do this, but also to finish this task.
    2. Because you had your children helping you with the decluttering process.
    3. You made it look so effortless.
    4. I have a lot on my mind and alot on my plate all while I'm suffering with recently losing six close people to me and processing a traumatic event I endured recently also.
I suffer with; Major Depressive Disorder, Panic Disorders, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and my children have; Oppositional Defiant Disorder, Tourettes and Severe ADHD and I have to constantly remind them just throw a piece of trash away and be careful how I ask so it doesn't start a argument.
Doing the simplest things for most are very challenging for me as I was never taught how to do this for myself, so I'm teaching myself through videos like this. Also, I'm struggling all the more since I had a major surgery recently and still am expected to maintain the household responsibilities and chores with little to no support or help from my family.
I wish I had a friend like you that could help me or at least sit and talk to me while I did what I have to do without getting so overwhelmed.
You did an amazing job with this room. I'm going to be watching it for a third time and try and get some more motivation for myself.
Love your channel, just subscribed to it today. I look forward to seeing more videos of yours. You're very inspiring to me. Keep up the great work! 🥹👍

Ashley, the room looks great. The before and after is incredible. I'm just like you. Extremely independent and I'll move a mountain myself before I ask for help. It's definitely an Aries thing plus growing up with an independent single mom, it's just in my genes 😊 6 hours, what workout 💪🏽The mattress sounds like a great choice. I recently bought a new hybrid cooling mattress from a different brand, and now I'm thinking the lull might have been better. 👍🏽💪🏽🙌🏽🛏

We had the same problem with paint so what we’ve done in the past is taking a piece from a closet that cannot be seen and we take it into Home Depot and they can match it and we’ve never had a problem with the matching it. Just FYI in case you wanted to try that. And her room looks fabulous.

I have a 2yr old and it can get messy at times. What is working for us is having limited toys, books and clothes. I also taught him that when he is taking off his clothes and shoes put it where it is supposed to be. I have to remind him sometimes but repetition works.
