The unbiased truth is he was "only" one the best players of all time. Was there a true greatest player of all time? Not in my humble opinion. Very few of the greats did not have a predecessors' giant shoulders to stand on. Labourdenais? Morphy? They have to be considered because they had little other knowledge than their own experience over the board. Bobby Fischer made it clear he gained substantially from previous greats like Morphy, Capablanca, Steinetz, and some others. So, to me the point is moot. I have favorite players of all time instead. Just as much joy to view their games without the arguments. Best wishes!
