The critical comments don't matter. You have provided a wonderful opp. to hear one of R's many masterpieces ! And esp. _Armida !_
The positions of the chorus, orchestra, conductor, individual singers ... are really a great part of the performance ... everyone has breathing room !
Thank you very much ! God ! I love Rossini !
Glad to hear your opinion! Thank you! I love Rossini too!
Bella interpretazione di un'opera piacevolissima. I cantanti sono stati strepitosi, sorprendenti, molto gradevoli all'ascolto, così come l'orchestra.🤩👍🌹
Miricioiu fantastica Armida: miglior " d'amore al dolce impero " che abbia mai ascoltato. ❤
♥♥♥
Ein sehr gutes Video gut Solisten Orchester Dirigent Chor
Che produzione modesta per i cantanti
Nelly is only 36 here!
In many ways this is a colorful if not weird Armida. The usual bunch of nasal and or aspirated light tenors running around a howly dark toned soprano lead. This opera, a curious mix of bravura and Italian fury”. A sort of plot that goes nowhere that has some delicious orchestrations. The orchestra here is full of finesse dragging out the melody at a desperately slow levels, thus creating a transcending effect that was STUNNING. Tenor Bruce Ford never an attractive voice (or face) plays everything like a chirpy, nasal hooty bird. The voice squeezed into a smooth cantabile of oboe like production. The result is just a bunch of notes and nothing else no real volume either. Nelly Miriciou at this stage was never in the center of her notes but the dark/bright slightly warbly with a similar anguished "Callas" like tone here is arresting. Her coloratura is serviceable and rather approximate... her high notes variable, but she is engaged. The soprano has a great tone to pull off this lower Rossini rep her legato abc is a cross between breathy Baroque and a true bel Canto style which is strange yet curious. The chorus was warm and perfectly blended wondrous, as most Rossini choruses are very tangy usually in blended and strident.
This opera when done very cleanly with accurate and larger voiced singers is very fine. This version is a more Victorian quality of pomp and character full of vulnerability in a dusty magical world that can often be opera. This would have been gorgeous semi staged at least for some reason the concert versions seem boring and pointless. One needs the costumes and staging, sets and context for this show to come alive.
Tell us how you really feel. LOL
@frankm6938 :: hahahahahahaha ! That was a very, very harsh review of one of R's masterpieces ! I can't wait to hear it.
orion :: Give Ford a break ! This was '88. His voice definitely matured and developed a richer sound (Rossini's _Elisabetta,_ is a good example of his dramatic leveling-up).
Wow such a stern critical stance. I think Ford in particular sings beautifully!
We all listen to this wonderfull music and especially to the singes who makeit possible. How many performances of ARMIDA are on market? Or here to find on UA-cam. Therefore great thanks for this wonderfull performance, which deserves only positve critics. ❤❤❤❤❤
