great review! I purchased the Gopro 13 as a successor of my Gopro 7, which is still in use as a 2nd camera on my ROV. Reason for the decision was good experience with Gopro 7, and bad experience with an cam being hyped in YT.

Interesting video. I have to GP 10 and I still haven’t been able to use it on walking tours, due to the up/down shaking. Does the 12 or 13 improve on this!
I agree 1'000'000 times with you Pete and that's what the entire tech market seem to be in 2024. Not sure what the reason is: the techtubers leaking all the specs in advance, making every product lame as soon as they are launched? The tech companies more focused on growing their wealth securely instead of taking innovative risks? Playing safe to avoid disappointing the mass market? While at the same time, keeping the exact same UI, UX, Design for 15.6 generations, giving users a weird feeling of just having the exact same product with just a higher number... (I mean the number of the product and its price... too). 1995 to 2010 were really great years of innovation and creativity. Seems that social media made it change a lot more than we would have anticipated... but maybe to contradict myself, I chose DJI and Insta360 as replacement, as they came with better solutions (go3S is definitely my go to camera, pun intended. and the entire DJI range of product, from Drone to microphone and gimball are pretty crazy good).
I sold the 12 after an initial test when I noticed the GP Log was unusable (grainy and muddy). So it was essentially a GoPro 11 for a higher price. Looks like they fixed the log but didn’t add anything else that’s actually interesting in the 13. The macro lens looks cool, but how often would one actually use it? It’s also a problem that they have to compete with iPhones (which are better) unless it’s used for action shots. Difficult times for GoPro.
Try to shoot macro videos like the gopro does with your iPhone and you’ll see how it goes 😂but better be prepared with AppleCare+ because it’ll cost you a few bucks after destroying your phone several times 🤦♂️. Also no new features? Like the 5.3k120 and the 400fps capabilities? When you actually shoot action you want best slowmo possible and GoPro absolutely crush its competitors on this… but I guess you just one of those guys who buy a GoPro to use it like a phone and then complain that it’s not as good, try to be more active more action you’ll be less aggressive against something that you haven’t even seen in real let alone tried yet 😉
It’s disappointing not only because of lack of innovation but a removal of features - last year gps was removed, and then lens wasn’t removable and now incompatible accessories- shows an unstable company that will change their line ups at the expense of users. Do they expect users to upgrade main body with nearly imperceptible features and buy a bag of add ons, who knows just to have it work for one year. Will stick to my older models until this is fixed
Buying camera is expensive but buying all other accessories is insane. I will wait for your review on new Osmo DJI action pro 5 and see what you think of that
Do you really need all the mods or what do you really need? All talk about low light and better sensor, but honestly it's an action cam which you do outside on daylight. And if you wanna do a lot in the dark, get a proper cam with a right sensor. And in daylight the GoPro is still the best action cam out there without changing sensors. Did help the others much to change it. Sensor is not the only thing which makes a great quality.
All of the add ons are cool for sure. But paying that much extra for everything seems like a money grab. Especially the new style battery. Is seems like this is less for action and more geared toward film making. One thing I'll say is that by buying the components seperate you can mod everything for what you actually want or need insteadnof being forced to buy a kit where you don't use half of it. I'm still using the hero 7 black but need to upgrade. It won't be this one. Thinking a DJI. This is a good camera but the cost is hi and switching the battery is andirty play for long time users.
gotta say, i would really like to have more durable gopro's. as well as new sensor. its an aciton camera, we dont need extra accessories that make it less durable.
Hi there! I'm planning to get the new GoPro Hero 13 and was wondering if you could recommend a good memory card for it. I'm looking for one with 512GB capacity that will handle 4K video recording smoothly. Could you suggest one that would be reliable in terms of speed and performance? Thanks so much for your advice!
This is what they've been doing for years now. Minimal improvements, usually just adding little gimmick type features that most people aren't going to use and/or that could've been added with a firmware update on older GoPro's. I've also noticed that as they bring out these new accessories, they make sure they only work with the latest camera. That's the only way they can get you to buy a new camera. I'm still using a Hero 9, and the only other generation of GoPro I've ever used before that was the Hero 4. From the 4 to the 9 I got a bump in image quality, and of course the stabilization is great.
Go Pro 13 could have been great but they let us down again... We was hoping for a bigger sensor with the 12 and never got it. Guess we gotta hope and wait for the 14
I'm done with buying GoPro devices. They make sure accessories will not work forwards nor backwards for not reason other than forcing you to buy the same thing you bought 6 months earlier. The new battery has more capacity but they could have made the pin config compatible. Waiting for DJI's Action 5 before I purchase a new action cam.
Its amazimg how much these action cams have evolved but it feels like aince the GoPro 10 they all are too similar to each other and stuck. Thats why they go with accessories and add ons. Everything got more expensive theae days . I dished out $750 for the insta360 x4 with multiple accessories and batteries. A few years back GoPro's enhanced versions were like 500 while standard were 299 or 399.
The android app is not updated yet so you'll have to download the update to your computer, and then an SD card so you can update your camera. It's a huge oversight.
Way too expensive for not any special upgrade from Hero 12. Thanks for being honest about price and your thoughts on the Hero 13. Not all bigger channels are👍.
Yikes, GoPro have lost me in recent years! Customer service has been shockingly bad. Even when I wanted to cancel an order BEFORE Shipping, to ADD to the order, they said NO!
On the surface I agree with you, but after watching PotatoJet’s video on the 13 I totally changed my mine. GoPro with the 13 looks to be taking us in the only direction we have left to go in the action camera space that brings us closer to a traditional camera and that is having interchangeable lens. I will be getting a 13 simply because there will be an anamorphic lens and I see the value of the macro lens. I made a video a while back about how I would love to see GoPro bought by a camera manufacturer so that we could see some sort of interchangeable lens capabilities brought to the GoPro. And well GoPro image stabilization in a full size camera would be rather cool. While there is a lot of negative pushback on not making major changes to the sensor size and things like that, I feel like this could be a big innovative shift in how action cameras are viewed and used going forward. Could we maybe see shallow depth of field lenses coming in the future?
Show depth of field is more so controlled by the sensor size though. Why not just keep making an awesome action camera? There’s other cameras that fill the rest imo.
@@PeterLindgren1 I see your point. I still like the idea of interchangeable lenses in a camera that size. Thanks for commenting back! I have enjoyed following your journey and where it has taken you. You have definitely been an inspiration.
@@PeterLindgren1I think the depth of field is influenced more by the focal length of the lens, aperture and the distance between the camera and the subject.
Not really, you can have a huge lens on a small sensor, but won’t be able to get the same shallow depth of field as a big sensor. Action cameras are not masters of shallow depth of field, so I think the focus should be on making an awesome action camera 🤘🏼
Wouldn't the better option be to do all that shallow DoF trickery inside the chip with computational wizardry. I'm thinking of what Apple can do with the iPhone 16 cameras.
Achievement unlocked, GoPro have made anyone that was staying with them because switching to either DJI or Insta would mean reinvesting in the ecosystem like batteries not worth the hassle, But now I would have to spend a small fortune for all new batteries, Tactical genius by GoPro, Off to DJI I go.
I’ve always loved GoPro’s just because I used them from the start for snowboarding. Unfortunately It’s now time for me to say goodbye to them. I just want a decent action cam without all the add on paraphernalia
you have to keep in mind if you want gps the gopro 12 does not have gps , while the gopro 13 does. also for only 50$ you can subscribe to go pro , get the cloud saves for your footage, and get a bunch of discounts which makes everything cheaper and pretty much pays for it self.
Peter..interesting! So for GoPro13, the new GoPro13 ND Filters are backward compatible with GoPro12, 11, 10, etc....Because when I spoke with GoPro Support (release date)..I was told they were not compatible. Thanks GoPro Support! I just ordered mine (and the new ND Filters) because I thought I had to buy them for the new GoPro13. So, I could have spent just the $299 (USD) for just the camera instead of the ND bundle which was $354.00 (USD)..that's with my GoPro Subscription discount. Frustrating when poor information get's communicated to the consumer!
So they copied brilliant DJI magnetic mount but are making you buy it separately so it doesn't look blatantly apparent they copied DJI. Addressing the overheating issue was something they had to fix, but they also took a hit making batteries not backward compatible. With the DJI Action 5 coming soon, we'll see if DJI pushes even further ahead of gopro.
@@kupis1408 As swiss citizen It is the last of my concern...still prefer buying Chinese top class product vs overpriced low quality made in USA...like I rather take an Airbus over any Boeing...
This is why people are flocking to other options like DJI action four which comes with a lot of accessories in the box as well as the Insta360 go 3 S and other Insta360 products they may not be as good of image quality, but value wise they offer more and they’re really innovative
DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro Adventure Combo, Action Camera 4K with 1/1.3" Sensor, 12h Extended Battery Life with 3 Batteries, Stabilization, Dual OLED Touchscreens, Mini Action Camera for Travel, Vlog
Another thing might not be relevant to much people here. The front grills on the gopro will attract too much dirt which will be very difficult to clean.
Yeah I know that for sure! But my city being an industrial area it is very dusty. You don’t have any idea how much dusts it accumulates after one bike ride. And this kind of dusts doesn’t go just by washing. You have to use a brush and some soap for it.
Gopro NEED LIGHT in order to work at its full potential. It was originally made for outdoor activities where it will be exposed to sunlight, rain, wind, dust, pressure and shocks, in other words the camera is not for everyone because it has its specific purpose.
It's disappointing that the new battery and some of the lenses aren't compatible with the 11 and 12 even though the 13 has the same body, same GP2 processor and sensor... The only thing i find cool is the macro lens and it sucks that it won't work on my GoPro 12, which i'm sure would be possible with just a firmware update but of course GoPro will never offer that update...🙄Definitely skipping the 13 ❌
Im disappointed because I wished they released a upgraded 360 camera. Im still on hero 8 and will probably not upgrade to Hero 13. I dont feel that excitement about geting an upgrade. I wished that I felt "omg I need this GoPro". unfortunately not. The new lenses doesnt sell. The Macro does not look that great and the ultrawide is just useless in my opinion. The filter that was missing that will be released in the future. The anamorphic, what Ive seen it looks really bad. Doesnt look like true anamorphic. Maybe thats why its getting released later because GoPro have to tweak it.
The problem is not the lenses but their limited settings. They could add HDR and LOG settings to the Max Lens Mod 2.0/wide lens besides the standard setting. Actually that can be done through firmware. Once you put the Wide Angle lens you have no RAW photos, no HDR, no Real Speed in Timewarp so what’s the point then? Indeed the new batteries are not a new feature. They say they had to make changes to batteries and cooling to bring back the GPS…who knows?
That's one reason it's really worth it to be a GoPro subscriber. You get really good discounts on new cameras and accessories. The GoPro 13 cost me $299US.
I’ll have a yr subscription on the 20th hopefully dji announces their new one before . Then I’ll decide if I cancel in time the subscription or jump on that $100 off.
I had the 12 for 4 days and returned it. It was overheating after 7-8 minutes on 4k 60 and after 12-15 minutes on 4k 30. Useless. Also the filesize is ridiculous. I can only see it being used in the water or flying/riding a bike with air flow cooling it.
Haven’t Upgraded (downgraded MHO) from the 10. I really don’t even use it anymore since the DJI Air Unit 03 (FPV Drone talk) has onboard 4k 60fps. That’s a real bummer that GoPro is leaving behind its customers that have supported them over many years by not making the accessories backwards compatible. Money grab greedy BS. It’s basically the same camera as the hero 10. Of which I bought audio setups accessories with mics, lights fisheye len, lots of batteries, and mounts. You name it I got it. The fisheye lens was not cheap then and it didn’t get much use then. Not making it compatible was a mistake. Bye @gopro forever. Dji osmo action 5 looking like a much better deal. ✌🏻 Thanks for the video sir and letting me rant. See you in the next one.
I was waiting for the 13, because I usually upgrade each 4yrs (I am not a pro, so it´s OK for me). But.... when you start counting all the accesories, its simply not worth to me. I have 9, with many stuff (lenses, door for external charging, ton of batteries...). I remeber when they released 2nd version of the wide lenses, I was like wtf, why? Now there is 3rd version of wide lens. Next year they will change it again so money go brrrrrrt. So I bought 2 new batteries and call it a day. Fck it, I will not invest another 850EUR+ for slight improvment (just added stuff I am using with my current version which needed to be upgraded).
I had gopro 11, 12, and changed to insta x4 because i wanted to try out the 360. I love it, but the editing is really hard. But thinking to buy again a gopro, and ohh boy i'm SURE gopro 11 because it has gps, and for me it worth more than the extra "better" quality. But gopro F*cked it up... I can't use anything old i had like battery, nd, etc. And if we look back to all the releases there was always new thing IN the gopro, better sensor, better ratio etc. Now what? nd filter? anamorphic? max lens mod? Yes we had these a long time ago, yes the macro is nice but that's it.
Was a GoPro fan and user since forever. They lost me after 10. Everything seems like a disappointment while other companies innovate. I doubt if they make it financially this time. Maybe DJI will buy them at some point.

I will wait for your review on new Osmo DJI action pro 5 and see what you think of that
100% agree! i was waiting also for a lilke gopro max2 (new 360) but i cant wait not more. i did buy the insta360 X4 and i love it!
I wish to see a 5x or even a 10x Zoom Lens for the new GoPro for use in filming sports closeups
Good job , will you have a review for dji action 5 ?
Hi it was so much better if they upgraded the cam senor lens and ref to 13 battery cant be used on previous models.
gotta say, i would really like to have more durable gopro's. as well as new sensor. its an aciton camera, we dont need extra accessories that make it less durable.
Sticking with my DJI action 4 and my older model gopros
Do you have a video about why you use a GoPro on your FPV instead of just using the camera on the FPV?
Thanks and have a great week.
Several videos covering the FPV journey a year or so back 🫡
This is what they've been doing for years now.
Guess we gotta hope and wait for the 14
Sorry, but I must have missed the unboxing. What was the new pack called for the GoPro where you get everything including?
Thanks for changing my thoughts before buy ❤
Does the macro lens look just like the standard lens on the distant setting so I could leave it on all the time ? Or does only focus a few feet out?
It’s less sharp than the OG lens imo
Great video, did you use the dji mic for the entire video? If yes i would love to know your EQ settings on it 😊😅 thank you
Yeah, been using it as my main for the last couple of videos now!
@@PeterLindgren1 thank you
Achievement unlocked, GoPro have made anyone that was staying with them because switching to either DJI or Insta would mean reinvesting in the ecosystem like batteries not worth the hassle, But now I would have to spend a small fortune for all new batteries, Tactical genius by GoPro, Off to DJI I go.
I was strongly expecting 1 inch sensor at least ..for low light performance :(
I’ve always loved GoPro’s just because I used them from the start for snowboarding. Unfortunately It’s now time for me to say goodbye to them. I just want a decent action cam without all the add on paraphernalia
Agree with you Peter, i'm still using gopro11 and not think to upgrade😅
for Fpv footage, gopro11 was way more than enough for me🤙🏽
you have to keep in mind if you want gps the gopro 12 does not have gps , while the gopro 13 does. also for only 50$ you can subscribe to go pro , get the cloud saves for your footage, and get a bunch of discounts which makes everything cheaper and pretty much pays for it self.
Gopro 11 has GPS, just saying 🤷🏻
Your part of the world is incredible for FPV. So much more interesting than our corn fields 😅
As always, thanks for the honesty 🤘🏻
I own an 11. My next one will be DJI, insta360, or I hope they release go pro max 360 2.
They are going in the wrong direction with lenses.. might as well buy a small mirrorless camera at this point
Man I just got one and was going to use it on a shoot tomorrow, but there isn't any firmware available yet
Is the bayonet now made out of plastic or still metal? I hope its metal with just matt black finish...
Still metal! Bit gets hot AS HELL
@@PeterLindgren1 Thanks for the fast respond! 😁👍
I love my 10 and my DJI action 4 they need better batteries I have closed mics on both and also pocket 2 as well
If it atleast came with the quick connect door for recharging! But nope, you have to pay 100 for it!
Does the magnetic door fit onto and work on the 10, 11 or 12 models?
The Action 4 and Ace Pro have much better IQ...
Waiting for DJI action 5 pro instead.
Gopro doesn't listen to it's users/clients. That's pretty much it. Otherwise, the 13 and prior models would have been different
The Gopro 13 disappointed, but the DJI Action 5 pro and more.
we can just hope that the accessoires work for future gopros, otherwise we have to splurge that extra money over and over again...
Seeing as these only work for the 13, they might make new ones every yer/other year
It is why I am DJI action 4 all the way for action cam ...GoPro is a has-been product...
technically any US made product is just too expensive compared to chinese-made counterparts ^^
@@kupis1408 As swiss citizen It is the last of my concern...still prefer buying Chinese top class product vs overpriced low quality made in USA...like I rather take an Airbus over any Boeing...
Someone had to be honest with it.. great review!!
No improved low light capability was the biggest disappointment for me.
This is why people are flocking to other options like DJI action four which comes with a lot of accessories in the box as well as the Insta360 go 3 S and other Insta360 products they may not be as good of image quality, but value wise they offer more and they’re really innovative
image quality above all else!
DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro Adventure Combo, Action Camera 4K with 1/1.3" Sensor, 12h Extended Battery Life with 3 Batteries, Stabilization, Dual OLED Touchscreens, Mini Action Camera for Travel, Vlog
Insta360 X4 Motorcycle Bundle- 8K Waterproof 360 Action Camera, 4K Wide-Angle Video, Invisible Selfie Stick, Removable Lens Guards, 135 Min Battery Life, AI Editing, Stabilization, for Sports, Travel
I’ll only buy one when overheating and battery can last 45 straight
Should I buy Gopro 13 or vlogging camera instead
Can u suggest a best vlogging Camera?
There is no ”best vlogging camera”. It’s all about what suits your needs the best.
I'm a beginner in vlogging I need a camera to shoot my video I'm totally confused which camera should I buy
If start with the phone and learn how to edit!
Another thing might not be relevant to much people here. The front grills on the gopro will attract too much dirt which will be very difficult to clean.
Just wash it of in the sink 🤷🏻?
Yeah I know that for sure! But my city being an industrial area it is very dusty. You don’t have any idea how much dusts it accumulates after one bike ride. And this kind of dusts doesn’t go just by washing. You have to use a brush and some soap for it.
Gopro NEED LIGHT in order to work at its full potential. It was originally made for outdoor activities where it will be exposed to sunlight, rain, wind, dust, pressure and shocks, in other words the camera is not for everyone because it has its specific purpose.
The anamorphic lens seems to be the best of this new camera but having it's launch somewhere in 2025 (?!) seems quite disapointing...
That 1/4 20 shoe is $15 on Amazon for older go pro cameras. Throw an affiliate in your description 😅
I'll stay with my Hero 11. This one is too much focoused on lens. I use gopro when I use Mtb or skiing. No need of removal lens (except Nd).
Yeah, but then you’re also paying for the subscription 🤔
@@PeterLindgren1 It's only $50 per year and you get unlimited cloud storage for your photos and videos. I think it's a great value.
A fool and their money are soon parted
@@magnusferdinand That's how I feel about people who buy the DJI Action.
Do you use the 360 cameras?
I can't stand the workflow of 360 cameras, but if you mean the AcePro, yeah i've tried it!
Wow, that waterfall shot with the Hero 11 still looks very good! 🙂👍🏽
Yeah, that’s a lot of money for the accessories. I’ll just stick with Insta360 camera.
Wholeheartedly agree with you! GoPro seems to be heading down the same path as BlackBerry! The DJI Action 5 looks like a promising option for 2024.🎉
I just want to know if they solved the overheating issues. Need a new helmet cam and the hero 12 overheats every 5 mins.
Gonna evaluate that soon enough 🫡
Not improving low light performnce is saddest point.
So sad to see gopro do this, I upgraded every year but this time im moving to dji
i go with 100% you. gopro has no inovation. they make so much wrong.
Was a GoPro fan and user since forever. They lost me after 10. Everything seems like a disappointment while other companies innovate. I doubt if they make it financially this time. Maybe DJI will buy them at some point.
They really sold this camera to use with all the new lens/filters etc. There really isn’t any significant changes to buy this.
Do the prices include taxes, too?
Totally agree Sir!
what y recomend to buy
